Hey Dan, great video. I finally found an A on TH-cam that is exclusively hand crank like my 45 A. Virtually every A out there Ive seen has electric or pull start off the starter solenoid. All bellhousings having a space for a starter too, unlike yours or mine. Awesome comparison. I just bought mine, its my first tractor ever, I've had it about a week now. Cheers, Mike

One of my Favorite things to do is Hank Crank That 1949 A.... Good luck with Your New Toy.

Ours had a battery box but no hydraulics.I dont know why they dont produce them again They were a terrific tractor.Ours had a valve which went into the intake manifold to have a vacuum if needed and a plug to put into the spark plug hole to inflate tires..

I'll go for the 1940, no more leaky hydraulics. Bare bones. They both look really nice though.

Does Super A your pull a 2 disk plow? With a rod that runs from the wheel of the plow to the right front wheel of the tractor? If so that the super a, is the tractor that both my grandfather's had..

Thanks Jan, Yes, I had a Small Steel Wheel that was only 15 Inches Diameter, so I Made it work out well.

Nice repair job on the A hood! Another minor difference between the two is much more substantial fenders on the Super A because of the horizontal bar for the rear cultivators being attached directly to them. I only recall that because I used to have an A with exhaust-lift and now own a Super A. Much more versatile with individual front and rear hydraulic control. Enjoy your posts!

Thanks For Adding to the Conversation... I didn't even realize that! But I forgot to mention that the A's Originally Only came with Magnetos but then the Distributer ignition was an option when they added the Electric Battery & Starter. I'm sure there are Other things I'm overlooking.

A little bit of history Dan. "The Super A was the first of the "new" Farmalls. Introduced in 1947, it featured the same 4-speed transmission and choice of gasoline or distillate engine as did the A. However, the engine operated at a higher speed which boosted output." From Farmall Super Series Photo Archive Edited with introduction by P.A Letourneau page 9

Thanks Robert.... What I think is so Special about it is that the Basic Design & Look of the Tractor & the Unique Offset Cultivision design Never Changed for 15 Years, Making it one of the Most Classic, well Recognized Farm Tractor of all Time.

Every old Farmall should be converted to 12 volt systems. We used to put 8 volt batteries in them so they’d start easier but once the battery went bad we used to just crank em or coast or pull start em.
