      Here in NC we hadn't had cotton in years. Back in 2006 I saw my first field in my 35 years. Then the guy baled it. The bales were the exact length and width of a flatbed tractor trailer. He had what looked like a tilt/lift bed flatbed trailer that had a conveyor made into the floor. Get under one end of the cotton bale and give her a ride up onto the 18 wheeler....

    Jason when did you come down to my neck of the woods to watch the peanut harvest? When i seen the Hesston stack-hand it brought back memories. When i seen the stack crumble it brought back even more memories and they were not good ones. That's what i remember about our neighbors unit. He used them to put up peanut hay/fodder for beef cattle. Every fourth or fifth stack would crumble either when it came out the unit or when they tried to pick them up with the stack movers. Round hay balers put them in the scrap yards.

    I was happy to see the green bean harvester. My dad worked on a farm while I was growing up, and I was always around Pixall green bean harvesters. Now they run a super jack, 2 big jacks and JD 8r with a cart. I was able to get some great drone footage this summer while they were harvesting.
    There’s also a local company (furmanos) that produces tomato sauce that run multiple pik rite harvesters. Pik rite is also made a mile from my home.

    Thanks for the great video Jason and a happy New Year to one and all from Perth Western Australia . I would love to see the crop in-situ on plant before harvest and then the product that leaves the field. This would give a better understanding of the complexity and ingenuity of these incredible machines. Cost of machine would also be of interest so we could better understand why we pay what we do in the shops.

    Random cotton fact: The color of wrap used on JohnDeere baler pickers does have a significance. Mainly, the price and wrap material. Pink wrap has a portion of the cost going to breast cancer research. Blue/green is the cheapest to buy, where yellow wrap is the universal wrap.

    Would like to see some videos describing in detail how these machines work. How do carrot harvesters work, for example? How do these farmers prepare their fields, plant, weed, harvest, and post-harvest process their fields? How much are the machines? Are there competing companies offering alternative designs? How many acres do these different types of crop farmers harvest? How much of their various products is consumed annually? How big is their industry compared to corn, wheat, soybean, cotton, etc? Love your videos. Look forward to them each day. My family says they're my comfort videos. :-)

    I used to run a JD 9965 picker 6 row 30” center picker. The area I lived in JD tested through new baling pickers at Ed Edens farms in Raeford NC. Had an armed guard out at night watching it. I know how complex the machines were back then (20 years +) and wouldn’t want to have to prep them. These designers ought to work about 5 seasons on a piece of equipment they design before they are allowed to actually put pen to paper. Great video man. Greetings from NC.

    To mix his shit pit. It’s nice seeing farmers taking such pride in their work. Not many of today’s youth have any idea what hard work is. I think it should be mandatory to work four sixty hour weeks on a farm in order to graduate high school. Happy new year to you

    The UK are now out of Europe thank God, one of the arguments the remain camp always come up with is that we won't have people from Europe to come and pick our crops and my answer to that is, there are machines out there that can harvest most crops, that is if the farmers want to invest in modern more cost effective farming methods but unfortunately here in the UK they don't like change and act like a tired old dog dragging it's backside, if we grow cotton they would still be picking it by hand. Great video many thanks Jason for giving us a view on these machines which some of us might never get to see or even heard of, God Bless stay safe keep the videos coming.

      These specialized machines are an expensive investment. Would be a lot of cash for a small farmer to get into that type of operation. Are most of the commodities grown on large farms or smaller family type farms in the UK?

    • @kevinfox5068
      @kevinfox5068 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dwightl5863 Hi Dwight, I fully understand your valid point, but I'm talking from experience of the farm I was on, I'm nearly 63 years old ,the farm I worked on had different breads of cattle some cattle like the exotic French breads which were between 6k to 10k each but the owner of the farm would be against buying a new Massey Fergusson 165 or 178 or a Ford 5000 or 7000 but he would buy an old second hand Zetor which had had it's day and disc harrow's which were fall apart when he got them, it's a false economy which a large number of small businesses fall into the same trap , for example I went into engineering a colleague started his own company in the 80'S he took out a loan of 50k bought a brand new Hardge automatic lathe with incredible machining accuracy ,this machine once set up for an operation could run for 24hours a day , over time he had 4 and one man setting them up which ment he could compete on the world market for work by keeping the cost down he has never looked back, there once was a man by the name of Sir John Harvey Jones who was a trouble shooter for small businesses and he once said " to make a business more successful doesn't mean you fill it with more people you modernise it which is why the Japanese are so successful ". I'm in total agreement, some of the small farms could lease hire ,I wouldn't expect any small farm to lay out 600k for a Challenger track vehicle with 620hp ,but when it use to take us all day to drill 20 acres of barley and these farms 1500 acres a day , if I had a farm I would seriously look at becoming more efficient. All the very best to you and stay safe
      Regards Kevin Fox.

    I want them to build a self propelled rake and baler combo. If you can put a round baler in a cotton picker. I have a rake with baler hooked on it works but would be better if the tractor was on top of baler. I know there would be a market if they built one. Vermeer builds a self propelled baler but I need a rake in front less labor. One man operation that's what I want. Great videos keep them coming.

    Love seeing the different kinds of harvesters. I'd like to see how tobacco is harvested and also a commercial tomato harvest. Where I live all baled forage is done mostly in 1 ton or 3/4 ton bales. So I found the bale barron kinda weird but interesting. Seems like a lot of extra work and fuel when you could just bale 1 ton bales. Keep up the great videos though, I love watching them.

Where I'm from they use combines for harvesting hay seeds and sometimes use pickup attachments. Just a suggestion.

    We put up alot of hay and straw bales all were stacked hand. I didn't know if they still made the small bales anymore, all I ever see now is large round or square bales.

What year is that Stak Hand and where about it is being used? I thought I never see anyone still doing that operation.
