The staging suggest the love story between Piaf and Theo Sarapo. Excluding some oddities, the show is captivating and the singers are extremely good. And Jonas creates a very young, naive, clumsy, but passioate Alfredo. His singing is exceptional and his acting outstanding.
I haven't read any reviews of this production, but I just realized that Violetta is Edith Piaf - the hair, the sunglasses, etc. which raised the level of interest for me. Schaefer and Kaufmann were superb and heartbreaking.
I was turned off by this weird production at first, but now I love it because of Kaufmann's superb acting and singing as the awkward, unsophisticated young boy (he couldn't have been so young when he did this). Everything around him is eccentric-modern and unnatural, but he is so natural and believable. He developes his character to a less naive, more cynical, then a little more mature in the final act. I love the way he looks and acts (and sings) in this production - really adorable.
The stage direction for the chorus is quite the turn off. However, Kaufmann's acting saved the day. I just wished the chorus in the background wasn't so distracting. I really like his interpretation of Alfredo's character. The unsophisticated, young naive boy not knowing what to do to attract a woman is not the usual characterisation. Placid Domingo does a very different alfredo. Kaufmann's one is refreshing.
Merci d'avance ! ;-) Does anyone know if this Traviata exists in full on the net or on DVD? If so, I would like to have the link... Thanks in advance! ;)
Ithas become absolutely perverse what this so called directors produce. One gets so angry that even outstanding singing can not convince to accept this kind of garbage.
Why garbage? This is what the so called society nowadays does. Sniffing coke and waiting for the next terribly wasted life to bury. In that regard the production is right in any aspect.
Dear friend, the staging/direction stand for themselve... the singers have no influence on the production. The contract for a production is set 3 or 4, even 5 years ago cause of the big planning (singer, conductor, producer and all the stuff needed for a production). The singers themselves are often not happy with a modern production... that's the way... just a short explination. Best wishes😊

Genial..
. Que distinto está Jonas, pero fabuloso
I like the way Kaufmann plays the Alfredo, so innocent , but with strong voice and good acting... Schäfer is also singing well...

He was 38 years old, but in his youth Jonas looked much younger than his age...
Tan maravilloso!!!!👏🎶👏🎶👏🎶👏🎶👏🎶👏🎶👏
OMG his Alfredo is ADORABLE!!!!
Einzigartig!
The media would have us believe that he has only recently come into his own. He's been pretty good for quite a while, hasn't he?
j'aime Jonas Kaufmann.
Merci
❤❤❤❤

yes , i agree
The kaufmannians are charmed by this uncommon Alfredo, though Jonas didn't seem to like his look.

ondu: operaonvideo/ Jonas Kaufmann.
The voice... And where is the rest of Kaufmann?
The rest ...is his acting, his true emotion, his beauty, his physical endurance, which are fully seen.
@Hanako5100
Born in 1969 Jonas Kaufmann was 37 or 38 in 2007. Definetly no "young boy" but I agree, he acts perfectly!
Joven y bella la voz de
Jonas na
Jonas Kaufmann - the heartthrob... (1:45)
just kidding: he ist awesome!!!
What's the meaning of that yellow sheet?
one ticket for a drink i suppose or coatroom ticket ?(the staging look so communist, so...)
Fabulus voices. Tempi to slow
Bravi i cantanti
Why Kaufmann ageed to do this is beyond me. I'm sure it wasn't for the money.
Weird characters but excellent orchestra...Nice to hear not to watch

Sadly, this is another of those pretentious productions where the stage director tries to upstage the composer.

Yes, you are right, one of the few, who understand the sense of the plot!
Disgusting production! I had to close my eyes and just hearing the magnificent voices. How on earth Kaufmann and Schafer accepted that ?
