Thanks stumbling across I found this, very interesting 🧐. Ever been down in the tunnels? A lot of history. Side note My great grandfather did a Skydive out the window 🪟 at the Statler Cleveland around that time last Name GrandField
Hello, my son just graduated from college with a masters degree and took his first job in Cleveland. We are from rural Wisconsin. He loves living there and being in a big city, me not so much. I love history and wanted to learn more about Cleveland and very happy to find your channel.
Joe Traina was supposedly leading a council of these 'Young turks' - as they were called, during the Castellammarese War. He was an influential member of the Mangano (and later Gambino) crime family. Died in 1974, a Capodecina of the family, with a large crew (30-40 made members). Definitely an interesting figure
FYI - As noted in video, I was restating what the listed "mob historians" references called the event (multiple names). I'm familiar with the 1931 Commission, though dozens of sources including the Justice Department state the American Mafia existed prior to 1931 mafiahistory.us/maf-chr2.html www.ojp.gov/ncjrs/virtual-library/abstracts/sicilian-mafia-and-its-impact-united-states#:~:text=The%20American%20La%20Cosa%20Nostra,a%20worldwide%20heroin%20distribution%20network. www.history.com/topics/crime/mafia-in-the-united-states

Awesome story. I'm glad to hear it
Thank you.....
I remember my grandfather talking about this.
The Statler would have been a perfect spot to have a Mafia convention meet. That place is huge and looks like something out of the Roaring 20's.

Thx - plenty of cool Cleveland history to enjoy on my channel (that many locals don't even know about).

There was no "Mafia" until the Commission was formed in 1931.
