Vogel's Approximation Method | Initial Basic Feasible Solution transportation problem| Hindi (Lec.28

This video explains #Vogel's #Approximation Method or unit cost #penalty method for finding initial basic feasible solution in transportation problem.
Penalty=second min. Cost - min. Cost
In case, the lowest and second lowest in a row/ column are equal, the penalty will be taken zero.

• Stepping stone method ...
There are two concept for solvng tie condition.
1.if there are more than one largest penalty rows(columns), select one of them arbitraily.
2. In case of tie among the highest penalties, select the row or column having total minimum cost. In case of tie in the minimum cost also, select the cell which can have maximum allocation. If there is tie among maximum allocation cells also, select the cell arbitraily for allocation.
(Rule 2 is best to find initial basic feasible solution.This reduces the number of iterations required to reach the optimal solution.)
