The thing is, people are genuinely disappointed at how AEW has turned out. People like Meltzer actively tried to strike people's credibility when they voiced criticism of the product which was completely unnecessary. I fully conceded the tribalism is tiring on both sides but AEW directly at the source encouraged that in the beginning also. They opened themselves up to this. Even if you scroll through these comments, there will inevitably be one AEW fan who just comments back to someone with some sort of insult with an emoji. It's hardly productive. That said, 83 weeks is now just Bischoff shitting on AEW and by his own admission he barely watches the show. Both sides are guilty. At least Cornette for example, watches the show in order to comment.

@@samallex6484 this is exactly the type of response I'm talking about. Just attacking the people involved rather than the points made by the individuals. Even if they want a booking job, which I don't think Jim or Dutch do to be fair. Eric, I'm not sure. But it doesn't suddenly make their opinion invalid. I said Jim watches also, Dutch says he dips in and out. Eric openly stated he barely watches AEW so I equally think him doing sometimes 2 hour videos shitting on AEW is a bit dubious.

Dave Meltzer can’t take AEW criticism because he’s in the inner sanctum. When you’re getting calls from the booker and discussing storylines and strategies with them you have a different context for the product than what viewers are getting on TV. You can no longer be subjective because you can’t see the forest from the trees. Dutch will know this. When you’re part of the problem you can’t identify the problem.

The entire Aew establishment was based on Anti-Vince and Anti-WWE philosophy. WWE entartainment based wrestling is not what wrestling should be, that's now how how promos should be made.
Aew tried to the new 2024 ECW and not WCW. Bunch of indie renegades who wants to go against the established wrestling order. Their wrestling is enterily based on NJPW strong man style which is only popular there in Japan but also looks utterly reckless, dangerous and sometimes sloppy. No wrestling storylines no character sold development but just random throwaway dream matches and routine move set. Their mindset is still stuck at the indie level. And when anybody claps back they absolutely lose their marbels. Because that would prove what they was thought to be as great wrestling can't draw huge rating and ain't popular amongst casual fans. So their little hardcore base attacks Aew detractors and any fans criticising Aew. They can't admit they are actually wrong.

WWE handed anybody with money and some mind for the business a golden opportunity. The WWE product was almost at an all time low between 2017 and 2019. That was basically the perfect window to have another promotion with mainstream appeal. Because of that there was an incredible amount of goodwill towards AEW from it's inception. But since it's apparent Tony Khan refuses to accept valid criticism and wants to have an indie-riffic product that mostly satisfies himself, more and more people tuned out. You can't have that a product that only attractes a niche audience and expect it to grow.

Strong style looks so stupid to me. The idea of wrestling is trying to make something that doesn't hurt look painful. The Strong Style guys seem to owe more to masochism than to working. It's not about being a good fighter, it's pretending that stuff that actual hurts doesn't. They'll stand there and let the opponent hit them, they'll try to take as many finishers as they can which diminish the moves...

    • @bradleyminoski2020
      @bradleyminoski2020 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

The only problem is ECW developed stars people cared about (Sandman, Sabu, Raven, New Jack) and mixed in a bunch of veterans they used properly (Bam Bam, Funk, Candido) and employed passionate broadcaster to get it all over (Styles) all while cultivating a actual fan base and did it in a era where the top two promotions at the time were stale and did nothing but book horrible cartoon wrestling.
It’s apples and oranges in my opinion as to watch a AEW program in 2024 is drudgery. Horrible booking, no storylines, no one I really care about and being called by a goof in a fucking mask.

A couple weeks ago, I decided to test the whole idea that "Oh, people just hate AEW cause they listen to people who tell them to hate AEW" thing.
Cause I haven't watched AEW regularly since it's first three or so months on air, aside from tuning in for the odd MJF or Punk, when he was there, segment. I only really see clips, or listen to Jim Cornette's reviews otherwise. So I figured, hey, I'll give them a shot. So I can say, with certainty, that if I hate AEW, it is because *I* hate AEW.
And the episode I tuned into was the episode where The Bucks and Perry and Okada attacked Tony. I was already tapped out two minutes in with the opening segment of the Bucks and their cronies walking in, then an Orange Cassidy segment opened the show, but it just kept getting worse. The incomprehensible Sasha Banks segment where no one seemed to know how to cut a promo, the interminable match between supposed main guy Swerve and the pale giant job guy, Moxley... being Jon Moxley, it's an awful tv program.
So, no, Dave. I don't hate AEW cause I feel a need to defend the WWE. I don't hate it cause it's "different." I don't hate it cause I listen to people who also hate AEW. I hate AEW because it is offensive to *my* sensibilities, not just as a lifelong wrestling fan, but to *my* sensibilities as someone who just likes good television. It is insulting, amateur hour nonsense tv, made by unserious people, who just expect me to love them causr I'm apparently supposed to in their delusional little fantasy land where they think that they and their friends are the best thing to happen to wrestling since the Gold Dust Trio.

The other problem with today’s wrestling (and actually for awhile now) is the guaranteed contracts. Wrestling worked back in the day because it’s a performance based profession. You should be paid on what you bring in. That way, the guys are inclined to perform better to get a bigger payout. They’re essentially salespeople. If you didn’t pay a salesperson a commission and just guaranteed them money, why would they even really care to go out and sell your product? They’d be getting paid regardless if they sell one unit or a thousand. You have to incentivize them.

Every time I criticize AEW, people call me a WWE trialist. I don't even watch WWE. The fact is, wrestling is about people having a conflict and resolving it physically. It's not just people senselessly beating each other down. And, you need a good reason to want to fight someone. AEW would have you believe that people just look at you funny and then there's a throw down that's so drastic that you'd throw yourself off of a 30 foot drop. Just because they looked at you funny? You need a real reason to fight someone. They tell me, "If you want a story, go to WWE. We're here for the action and we want to see who is going to win." It's not real! If you want to see who's going to win, based on what a writer chose in the back, then how simple minded are you? I'd forgive AEW if they would lean further into it being a fake sport. For example, they have their win/lose record. And, they have contendership. Take it to the next level and make this fake prize fighting. Bring back the "pay window". Or, have wrestlers compete for cars and vacation trips like it's next level American Gladiators or boxing. Then you wouldn't need a plot. If you're going to bring out glass and tacks, then I need to believe that these people have a real reason to want to maim each other, not because it's a random Wednesday. If I wanted to watch people hurting each other, I'd watch MMA or boxing. AEW's pain is real enough anyways, throwing a dude who was hit by a literal bus back in action and having the longest injury list in history. Might as well bring back Brawl For All.

You know for context, "AEW Derangement Syndrome" is derived from the term "Punk Derangement Syndrome" which a twitter user coined for those kind of people that are so obsessed with hating CM Punk that they spent more time a day thinking about him than Punk fans do ("Punk Derangement Syndrome (PDS) is a mental condition in which a person has been driven effectively insane due to their dislike of CM Punk to the point at which they will abandon all logic and reason"). So I think the question is not "why do people dislike AEW" but "why are some people constantly in the comment sections of every AEW related tweet shitting on AEW and bringing it up all the time."

Just because TNT doesn't have the NBA doesn't mean it's a good thing for AEW. AEW's numbers are so that TNT could put re-runs of any major show over the last 30 years that they have the rights to and they'd get at least a million viewers which is better than what AEW gets. Warnee Discovery will absolutely find something to replace those AEW time slots it might re-runs of old shows first but they will find something to fill that time with and chances are it will get better numbers than AEW and it might cost them less than paying for AEW. I hate to say it I really do but the writing has been on the wall for a while now.

NXT films in a darkly light studio in front of a small audience-but they still manage to get it right. It’s a small location but it’s packed and the audience are super into what they are seeing, it’s very rare to have moments of dead silence. Even when it’s not full, they have it light in the just right places so you don’t see empty sections and your eyes are drawn to the action. AEW’s whole approach to production is half assed.

    Life long wrestling fan
Started watching AEW when danhausen Appeared
He was Hurt so I decided let's still go to the show and keep up and by the time he's healed ill be invested in the Characters, the story's and some matches would be great
    Except
Danhausen was used less than 5 times
Asked for a return to the indys
The one storyline they had for the year both people got injured MJF/Cole so it couldn't finish, then we go to 2024
AEW announces another show in winnipeg and I went "Well they did 10k last time I can't wait to see a full building again"
Then danhausen was booked for Defy/GCW the week of the show and I went "Yea not
going".....then I decided to check the AVAILABLE tickets and there was 4.5k available around for a 12k venue.....when they did 10k a year before.....they lost OVER HALF OF THEIR AUDIENCE in a year not by running the town dead like Chicago/Vegas....
But from 1 show to ANOTHER
I Gave them 1 year to put on compelling stories, to invest in young talent, to create a reason to keep up with the product.....THEY HAVENT and unfortunately There never will be a 2nd biggest promotion......WWE is a different animal than wrestling, but now WWE is doing wrestling and Story and entertainment and long term plans.....

The NBA makes huge revenue, but it also is costing WBD $1.2 billion a year. And with NBC trying to get the right, they would have to pay even more going forward. And the average viewership for an NBA game is only 1.6 million. The NBA might be a money loser with all expenses taken into account.

AEW general is people pop for moves, sometimes, half the time it looks empty and they obviously have great wrestlers. But Jade feels like a bigger star after like 3 matches than the entire womens roster no matter how much they spent on the former Sasha Banks....production and presentation matters

Part of it also is the AEW devoted lost their boogeyman in Vince McMahon, the whole impetus with AEW was being an alternative to Vince's increasingly out of touch style of wrestling. But now Triple H is the captain of the ship and he's steering the WWE back into fair waters and given their fans something gradually learning more and more into what they've wanted again for 25 years. Now AEW look that much more amateurish by comparison. It's been 5 years and they've not grown their audience, they've shrunk their audience. It's incredible how much what has been going on in AEW mirrors what happened both in the AWA in 1986/1987, WCW in 1999/2000 and TNA in 2011/2012. I have a world of respect for veterans like Claudio Castagnoli, Edge and Christian Cage and so on, don't get me wrong, but pushing a guy like Edge, who's coming near the end of his career over guys like a Ricky Starks and Miro, who you could and should be building up as your starts for the future, is just repeating the same mistakes over again. What really baffles me though, is the presentation of some of those wrestlers, like with Okada, whose first match in the company could have been built up as a huge deal and probably would have been thought of as such by most wrestling fans, and then he gets sent out there for a throwaway six-man tag against some glorified jobbers for his first match! Or why wrestlers, who get nothing out of winning squash matches, because they're already over with the fans, still get booked in them time and time again! The biggest problem though, as I see it, is Tony's plan of having far too many stables/groups, full of one faceless nobody after another that don't have a snowball's chance in hell of getting over, if they're never booked to be more than that.
