Hi, I’m currently going through all your videos and I’m loving the storytelling. Your detailing is sublime. I had always wanted a train set but for long boring reasons never got one. That was until my current wife and daughter chipped in and bought me a small oval track with an engine and couple of carriages and now I’m excited coz I have been given the green light to build a layout in my loft. I will be using a lot of your ideas along with my ideas of my own. I’m a very late starter as I am 64 this year but I have the mind of a teenager ( I refuse to grow old yet lol) . Anyway, thank you for sharing sir and hopefully one day you may get to see the one I build. Sorry about the long comment but the way you talk is so soothing and I love learning about new cities, countries etc. I am from the UK. 🙌🏻🙌🏻👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Another inspirational video. Your series is a good teaching tool since you have broken the construction of a layout into multiple "bite size" projects! Thanks...
Another great video. Pennsylvania is a great place for getting ideas about how railroads developed . The Eastern half of the country has fantastic railroad history and you do a great job of exploring and revealing it, yet at the same time you provide great ideas of how to do things in the modern era. I look forward to your videos. I can see that you have fallen in love with the static grass maker, I would say it is a necessary element for modeling abandoned and neglected railways. Keep up the good work. I can’t wait for the next installment.
Speaking of older rail signage on overpasses, here in Norfolk, VA there is a concrete rail overpass from the Norfolk Southern Lambert's Point dock yard where tracks pass over Hampton Blvd that has molded into it face the old Norfolk & Western logos. I have always found looking for these old markings as part of the railfanning experience at its best.
Excellent workmanship, Doug. It's inspirational as I struggle along with a new layout (first one since 1977!). Now, will go look at your Engineer story vids! Cheers, Bob
Great video DJ. I have been watching all of your prototype reference videos to plan my next layout. This will be my first time modeling a yard so I’d like to do it right the first time. All the best, John
Fantastic! You have a real talent and a keen eye for modeling. Lots of stuff to think about for beginners to think about. So many different ways to go! Thanks. :) Greg in TN
I already know this video is going to be great so I liked it and I didn’t even watch it yet. Keep up the great work and stay safe. What is your favorite type of locomotive to run?
Not sure if you’re having the same problem as me with woodlands grass. It’s shiny. Shinier than the others. I’ve been thinking about lightly dull coating mine after it’s been applied. Our buddy Michael Michael motorcycle might take you more seriously when you want something ordered..... 😂 Noch is releasing “muted” static grass colors. So they don’t shine and have a flat color appearance. Stepping up their game to silflors grass tufts, if you have. You might have to venture in to Delmont for the silflor brand though.. it’s looking great. I really dig this project. 🤙🤙
@@djstrains I’ve rolled into that parking lot 3 times in 2020. Each time I read the sign, decide I’m not in the mood to be in a nice mood. Turn my ass around and drive away. I might head up there in a tyvek suit though and kick the door down. At least they’ll feel healthy about the intruder. 🤣😂😂😂😂😂
I gotta try out the Static grass at some point... To me it looks way more like real grass than the old method of putting Woodland Scenics green ground cover all over the area
Ngl my dream layout would be based off Sydney to the blue mountains Aswell to Newcastle the whole story would be during the era of the end of steam so about 1970 or so
Nice video! Question say there is an abandoned industry with an abandoned track going to that’s right next to the yard and the railroad needs more tracks can the railroad buy those tracks and the property that they are on (not the property of the whole building) and use it for a yard track?
Thats a good question. I can't say for certain, but one would guess that they could work a deal with the property owners to lease the track. The property owners could charge them a per diem for storing cars on that track.
DJ, Where did you find that switch in the pavement at timestamp 3:28? That is a rare single point switch that is most commonly used by light rail but was also used by several railroad companies. The new layout is looking great, keep up the good work. Cheers, Rich S.
VERY INTERESTING AND INFORMATIVE THANK YOU FOR YOUR VIDEO AND COMMENTS the details are very helpful THANK you AGAIN JIM KAMMERER OF PHILADELPHIA PA very INTERESTING for sure. 👍😷🤗🚂🚂
Hey DJ, I am building an n scale layout in my bedroom, and I am wondering how much space I should take up in it. I have about 10 ft by 10 ft, with a desk on one of the sides spanning 6.5 feet. Just let me know how much space I should have Thanks
Start small, but have a track leading off the edge for future expansion. Don't start big and then lose interest or get overwhelmed. Small and finish, then move on if needed.
woodland scenic tufts. They are peel and stick (These were HO scale, but still looked good for N). With the tufts, you can cut them as shown on the abandoned rail car stops on new video.
Hey DJ. I got a question. Idk if you’ve covered this or not. What’s the reason for the mid dpus or even end DPUs? Is there a reason they just don’t put all the engines together at the front? Does it help them have longer trains? And how do they know where to place em?
no. I have no knowledge of CAD and it seems above my pay grade. I do know a few people who can help. What would you like to see made? Maybe we can make stuff.
Looking great! See you're getting into static grasses... may I suggest another page here, th-cam.com/users/LukeTowan , Luke does a lot with scenery and static grasses!
I watch his stuff. In fact I was watching him when he first started and I promoted his videos on my twitter because I knew he was going to be one of the best ever.
Do you guys watch EverardJunction? It has been great to watch his layout build skills development. I wish he had shorter, more frequent videos, but they are very detailed and technically very helpful. th-cam.com/video/o7dKCtACzLI/w-d-xo.html check out one of his old vids.

one step ahead of you, lol. There is already graffiti on the wall /roof of Bohins. Done by decal made by a friend. More to come. Personally I hate vandalism and tagging, but will try to be as prototypically accurate with this modern layout.
Who ever disliked it was a person who is jealous and does not have such a great layout like you.
Jealous
The small details definitely tell a story, and bring a layout to life.
