    Thanks Dale, very useful and agree with your thoughts on the positives and areas for improvement.
    I thought the final section where you did the comparison figures was interesting. I've started looking at this too, especially the import/export readings from the grid from my new smart meter readings installed on 19th July. There's a major variance between the meter reading and the Tesla app. From grid 0.2kWh (app), meter 3.39kWh. I need to install a couple of CT clamps to the Harvi (job for this weekend) to be able to compare all three figures. I wondered if you've looked at your meter readings; import/export figures to see how they compare to the values you are collecting?

    • @SpectrumGeeks
      @SpectrumGeeks  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes and no regarding looking at the meter. I looked at them when I had the system installed and for a few weeks after, but noted what the software said and what the grid and generation meters was quite different. So now I only look at those for billing, but use SolarEdge for ease and consistency (ie consistently x % off).

    I’ve about the same setup as you all be it that my solar array is slightly smaller. What I find with this app, and I’ve noted other also, is it very clunky, not the best and certainly the slowest app I’ve got. Hopefully over the next few months myenergi will get to grips with it and iron out the creases, metaphorically speaking!as it can be a little frustrating to say the least. On the positive side it’s great to have the info to hand although it’s not always the same as my SolarEdge apps info but I’ve put that down to myenergi’s slower updates. Onwards and upwards 🤞🏻Colin.
    Oh, I agree with you about updates, that at the mo is a real pain especially as we’re not told about them via email but have to check each time though the forum, that up until a few weeks ago I new nothing about. In short the sooner we get auto updates the better.

    What has surprised me a bit is that there is no on line manual for the app. I’ve had to mess around a bit to find what it’s all about. What. Have found great is the tank 2 in Eddi , I’ve wired I to two elements that I’ve fitted into our existing towel rail on our heating circuit. They are just 600watts each and heat the towel rails with any surplus energy.. My next job is a split air con that can run of the solar or Powerwall when it’s to hot.

    Thanks Dale,
    Your video was very useful. I am also on the Octopus energy Go tariff and usually charge my car( Renault Zoe)at night from 00:30 for four hours. The Zoe has a setting called "postponed charging" which I set in the car and then set the Zappi to Fast charge either on the Zappi itself or via the app. This seems to work fine but I'm wondering if it would be better to use the scheduled boost with the Eco+ mode. If I were to do this, should I set the Zoe setting to "Immediate" charge or "Postponed Charge"?

    • @SpectrumGeeks

      I would use the scheduled boost myself, I don't have a Zoe but would say immediate would be best and then it will get the supply when the Zappi starts charging.

    Hi Dale, with the Myenergi hub can you choose which device gets priority on export. As in can you set the zappi charger to have priority on exporting power if a car is plugged in over the the Eddy if the immersion cylinder is cold. Great video by the way.

    • @SpectrumGeeks
      @SpectrumGeeks  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This isn't done on the MyEnergi hub (this is pretty much a dumb terminal), but you set the priority on the MyEnergi Eddi / Zappi itself.
      So I have mine setup so Zappi has priority over the Eddi, so car chargers first then hot water.

    Very useful video, Dale, thank you. I have my solar panels installed less than a week and couldn't take in all the installer said when he was explaining the Myenergi app.
    On the app screen, and with reference to the hot water icon, what do the tick, the double II, the tree and the 'play' symbols alongside the icon mean?
    Paul Kennedy

    • @SpectrumGeeks
      @SpectrumGeeks  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The double II is a pause icon, showing that the Eddi is not currently active.
      The leaf if you are talking about the middle icon shows how much of the energy is green (ie from solar).
      From memory (I don't use the app much) means the activity is complete. So for the Eddi the water has heated to the set temperature.

    • @ek9772

      Spectrum Geeks I have found that changing to a water heater with a heat pump could save up to two thirds of the energy compared to a regular electric heater:
      th-cam.com/video/Jk6D_D7naOY/w-d-xo.html
      The above video is kind of interesting since it was done by a full time off grid guy, Steve, and it proves the reliability of these devices in this type of setting. He and his wife, also, use an electric car, and they use batteries to store energy.
      With regards to the inaccuracies of the app, do you think this might be related to the CT used by the app, or could this be an algorithm thing?

  • @mykehoole5787
    @mykehoole5787 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Dale, it’s interesting seeing your comparison between you three systems. My Solar Inverter is made by Afore the data it collects is limited but my Battery storage is Alpha-ESS and my newly installed Zappi, Hub and Harvi set up is looking good although the response time and accuracy varies. I did not get the Eddie as I already had an early version i -Boost which does not have an App. If it ever fails I’ll probably replace it with an Eddie to make the whole system more efficient.
    I’ve got an AirTurb (wind turbine) on order which will hopefully generate around 600w and I will add a CT directly into the Zappi which is just 2 or 3 metres away from where I’ll be mounting the turbine. It’s all been a great experience and if I ever get around to my dream of a new self build eco house, I will put all my new knowledge and experience to good use and maybe even make my own TH-cam video about it all.
    Keep the good stuff coming.

    • @mykehoole5787
      @mykehoole5787 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SpectrumGeeks Hi again Dale, the AirTurb is from Holland (the home of the Wind Mills) but it is a vertical two bladed turbine that stands about 1.2m tall and 0.4m in diameter standing on a base of 4 square solar panels that also act as ballast. They start up at very low wind speeds and need no more than 5m/s (11 mph) for the maximum output of 600watts. It has an over speed protection (electric brake) and has a AC inverter so it then connects straight into your consumer unit or as I will be mounting it on the roof of my free standing garage I will tie it into the garage consumer unit and as my new Zappi will be directly below it I will hard wire a CT directly into one of the spare Zappi inputs rather than buying another Harvi.
      After charging my battery storage and Tesla on my off peak 02.00 - 06.00 and the solar kept the batteries fully charged to 17.00 so from now on I think that the solar will keep my Tesla and my wife’s Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV topped up and once the AirTurb is up and running it will be almost like being “Off grid”.

    Hi Dale, Thanks for the videos they are proving to be very informative. Do you think a Myenergi Hub and Harvi on there own would be useful?
    At the moment we have no real idea what we are generating or importing, so I'm looking for a setup that will give us some data from our 6 year old 4kW (Ginlong) solar PV. We have a generation meter that is located in a separate building to the import meter so a system that requires a wired CT Clamp to both generation and import sides might be troublesome...
    We've just had a quote to upgrade the inverter to SolarEdge and 10kWh Sonnen battery but we are sceptical about the companies best case % improvements (we have almost zero if any shading) and the optimistic payback time...

      Unfortunately Ken the Harvi is essentially dumb, and I believe the Hub is just an agregation device (ie it pulls the stats via the Eddi or Zappi depending on which is master). So without either of those it wouldnt work.

      I leave mine in ECO Plus at all times so it will only charge if I either have excess solar, or during my timed charge window.
      In FAST it will start to charge your car at max rate, at ECO it will charge your car at min rate (about 1.5kW) and Eco Plus ONLY if there is solar surplus, in addition to this when the timer is set.
      SO .... if yours is charging the car when plugged in and Eco Plus is set I would guess you either have a problem with your CT Clamp connections (so the Zappi thinks there is surplus when there isnt), or its an issue with the Zappi. You may need to contact MyEnergi, but I also have other videos on my channel about setting up timed charges on the Zappi etc. Its for the gen 1 zappi but should help you.

      Are you running the latest firmwares, and also how long have you had the setup?
      I just tried to check mine but its only working for todays values at the moment, says something went wrong for the others at the mo.

      @@SpectrumGeeks I had it installed in August. It's never populated. I tried a firmware update but it went bad when I discovered the grey faceplate sticker thingy on the hub is upside down. Your setup video helped me fix it by mirroring your utton pressed and ignoring the labels on the buttons and leds. Thanks

      I recommend updating the firmwares, as this has solved some of the issues I had previously.

    KW and KWH are NOT the same thing! All your MyEnergi numbers are kilowatts, except the "total charge during session/day/etc" figures. :)

      You are spot on Chris, made another video calling myself out on my miss quoting in the heat of conversation. Made a concious effort to do it less since :)

      :) I did scroll the comments a bit to see if you'd spotted it. IT is a whole new mess of abbreviations for most folks. I do wish we could standardise on one unit. We have a standard 240 v system (except for superchargers et al) so amps to Kw is a one to one conversion, but half the time they tell you what your charge point will give in amps and half the time in Kw...

      Agreed, and I wasnt helping with the problem. So like in AA I am trying to do better :)

    How do you get your solar to show on the app?

    • @SpectrumGeeks
      @SpectrumGeeks  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have additonal CT Clamps on my Solar feed so I can see things in the app.

    Does the app give live data without delay?

    • @SpectrumGeeks
      @SpectrumGeeks  ปีที่แล้ว

      All apps have some delay as it takes time for the CT clamps to sense the change, and in the case of MyEnergi send the data back to MyEnergi servers to the app.
      However, it is pretty responsive and responsiveness has improved over the years since it was deployed.

      I do have a smart meter but I don't use the smart screen thing it came with as the tariff info was wrong, so its been in the cupboard since day 2 :)

      Hi again is there anyway that I can stop water heating in order to charge my car using solar?
