We have similar FCC regulations here in the U.S. with regards to the unlicensed FRS (UHF) and MURS (VHF) and some regs regarding power on GMRS (UHF). Not many pay too much attention to the regs, and the FCC doesn't get its knickers in a twist unless they get reports of "malicious interference". The average American "bobbie" isn't going to be aware of the various antenna & power regs unless he/she is a radio afficiado. Nice video !
Thanks for the disclaimer. Sick and tired of the 100w massive on PMR transmitting where the hell they like. Our local 70cm repeater has been abused to death and ended up the keeper throwing the towel in. As for Baofengs, best place is in the bin. Even genuine ones are utterly filthy with their output, with sprogs EVERYWHERE. In fact, good idea for a video; get yourself a TinySA, and have a look at some kit for the spurious emissions they produce (plus, you know, the spectrum monitoring possibilities)
Regarding the antennas; the gender of the connector is determined by the center connection, not the ground threads. For years most radios used female on the radio and male on the antenna. Then along came Baofeng and changed it.
Good video as always Fred. Appreciate the various “caveats” as they’re important etc. Just as a side note the “non removable antenna” legislation no longer exists. It’s just the 0.5 watts that applies now. As for 10 watts next to your head it’s worth pointing out that near field analysis for vhf/uhf differ wildly to that of HF frequencies. Would be worth some further investigation into actual outputs at the antenna vs the stated output.
Thank you for the update on the antenna. Thats quite interesting as 0.5w with a decent antenna is very useful. Good idea in measuring outputs of the radios. Maybe something for the future.

From Amazon here. www.amazon.co.uk/Telescopic-Handheld-Antenna-SMA-Female-Compatible/dp/B0BWMPVRQT/ref=sr_1_5?crid=C46NL6GOJR6F&keywords=2m+70cm+telescopic+antenna&qid=1700913906&sprefix=2m70cm+telescopic%2Caps%2C55&sr=8-5
@@CB-RADIO-UK Thank you.
Any recommendations on the best radio To get for prepping in the US out in the country
I would say try for a 10 watt radio. This RA-89 is built like a brick. Plenty of other Baofengs are good if you can get a genuine radio.
If you're gonna stay put you're better off getting a ham license, putting a big antenna in the yard, getting some solar panels and using a stationary unit with 20+ W so you can talk to other towns/cities.
hi the ra89 is about 119.00 for two is it a good deal ?
The RA-89 is very rugged and has a long battery. Price varies.
Frid in the how was your Thanksgiving my friend
Why would he celebrate a US holiday?
Sorry meant vfo mode 😊
Have you measured the power output on this one? Does it hit the 10 watt mark?
No do not have a meter to measure the output.
the police are not allowed to check you radio kit!
Really ive not heard that in the UK.
Does anyone really worry about whats legal on PMR anymore , chances of getting caught and convicted are almost nil , bigger problems in the world today to worry about ,,👍
Totally agree with you but your be surprised how upset people become.
as a licence radio amateur, i care. As fred points out, getting the foundation licence is straight forward, it would be good to see people follow the rules, rather than making excuses to break them. These rules are here to protect not just radio users, but all of us.
@@alzeNL as a licensed technician it’s embarrassing to me when people like you start off a statement with “as a licensed HAM”. You only speak for yourself, and like me you memorized the answers to some questions. You’re not special, you don’t own the airwaves. Dont get me wrong mate I agree with good behaviour and respecting the rules on , allocated amature bands and public service , air , marine etc , but I dont see people getting in a twist over a few dedicated enthusiasts of pmr running a little extra with a decent anntenna, 99 percent of these people are amateur operators in my parts and very nice people to talk too, unlike a lot of the 11m boys down here , all the best 73 51s and have a good weekend 🍻🍻🍻👍
@@CB-RADIO-UK Great channel, have a good weekend Fred 🍻🍻🍻
Okay, okay. I've been a radio guy for over 50 years, also. And I only had, one wedding ring on. Because I was only married to, One Person.
So what the hell is going on here? You've got a wedding ring on both hands! Are you kinky? Are you Mormon? Are you just a regular, Polygamist? No? You are an irregular, Polygamist? Oh? I should have known. You're one of those.
I'm not saying it's good or evil. Naughty or nice. But Santa Claus is coming to town. And he's got a clause in his, Santa Contract. And we all know what that means. No green M&Ms! It's always like that.
I'm not sure what country you're working for? You might want to find one?

What an interesting comment. Your the first person to ever mention that on over 700 videos. In the UK you wear a wedding ring on your left hand the finger next to your small finger. Any other rings on other fingers have no meaning. The 5 diamond ring on my right hand is something that all the males wear on my wifes side of the family its a family tradition.
I doubt very much that police would know what approved equipment looks like antenna or not plus I think Ofcom have more important things to do other than chase people who are using 10 Watts.. Wise up...
No i think since 911 the police are pretty clued up. If your at a public event you stand out like a sore thumb using a handheld radio.
@@CB-RADIO-UK yes and a hand held radio can do soo much more than hhmmm let me think.. What about a mobile phone device...
I would use my 2/70 around my town regular and nobody even the police has said boo to me as they simply don't care... Its a non event.

Different type of antennas 😰😡
I have collections of antennas and cant using with that just that oryginal toy. 😰
You need to be more specific in your request for video proof. If I send you proof, what will I get 😂😂😂. I live in a city centre at the top of a skyscraper. I can pick up south of England from the north of England while indoors 😂😂😂
Needs both 2 way recording confirmed with GPS. Just wont happen on line of site. It will only happen with skip conditions which will mean being outdoors. However i would love to be proved wrong as it all helps radio.
u can be prosecuted for knowingly breaking the law... it`s not like you are hard to find
This is true

This the UK version of GMRS?
FRS?
Hi, No this is PMR 446 MHz
@@RabbiJesus2 different services GMRS and FRS.
@@bruceclark5627 kind of sort of. They overlap in the US.
@@RabbiJesus sorry,I meant from the aspect of 1 being restricted and free and the other being a little more flexible, albeit licensened.
Chinese '10 watts'...
Chinese Watts? No Sir. Mine delivers "real" power (8,9 to 10,3 W) in the 70 cm range (depending on frequency). Retevis did it right... Cheers Thomas
This is a bit bs,when you use it in public the cops dont know if your lisences or not, atleast in here no one is paying attention even cops dont botter if you blowing power on pmr,and i took it to concerts and stuff just with the earpiece lol
But you never know.
@@CB-RADIO-UK well it happend at my home, when i was pirating on ham frequenties but no one do anything about ppl talking iligal on pmr or lpd frequenties here, maybe if you create qrm for others or if ppl complaine about it but for the rest nothing happend here
Why do keep giving your viewers the finger???? Rude.
Not intentional.
