The Case IH combine in the slideshow at the end is actually on part of our farm. My father was harvesting grass seed at the time, this was probably mid July before dry land wheat was ready. Cool to see a local video!
Enjoyed the video, Mike. Liked how the 4960 blew a puff of smoke with every stroke of the baler. Andy of Farming Fixing and Fabricating had a tractor really put out the smoke on the stroke!
The 4960.......my all time favorite JD tractor. Interesting that the 4960 has noticeably more pto HP than the 8100, yet the 4960 puffs smoke on each plunger stroke and the 8100 doesn't. I have seen this same thing on other channels with the 4960. I know it has a different engine than the 8000 series, but still interesting to note.
Do you think it could be because the 8100 has more rotating mass in its drivetrain and therefore isn’t bogged down as much with the plunger strokes? Or it could be the differences between the injectors and injector pumps?
Someone was probably playing with the fuel pump, it keeps surging, engines should not smoke, the smoke is unburnt fuel, so the fuel pump keeps dumping fuel, probably governor issues in the fuel pump. Great video Mike
Nope this is pretty typical with a big square baler on a non emission tractor. Every time with plunger of the baler hits the bale it takes more power and does just what you see. It still changes the engine sound on newer tractors but with the emissions you don't see the smoke every stroke of the plunger.
Nah, it's just the baler drawing more and less power from the PTO as it packs the bales. You'll notice the pattern of the pulsing matches the motion of the bales as they get pumped out the back of the baler.
I want to start a farm so bad here in Elmore County, Idaho. I'd never be able to afford any of the land/equipment. P.S. Baling hay looks like a giant PlayDough factory - Squeeeezes it out
I'm pretty sure there is some dealers in parts of Europe. I've been to a dealer in the UK and I know they have some in Romania. Not sure where else though over there.
@@farmhandmike Thanks Mike. I did some investigation sometime ago and come to the conclusion that Versatile sold their rights of production in Europe to somebody if I remember well one of the big business in Europe on agricultural machinery. Would that be correct? Can you check that for me, please. I've been in machinery but for construction etc. JCB, CASE and the like on secondhand only. Sheers, thanks

Yes this was in mid July and the wheat was not quite ready to combine.

Do you think Greta stayed home for this one too? They had that one tractor just rolling coal!

Thank you for the great shots...you made me homesick.
Great Vlog, great to see these older JD's baling hay, thanks for sharing
Mike everytime you do a video of Idaho , you make me homesick for it.
Luv that 4960 puffing smoke
Its when packer ram is on its compression stroke.
Great video Mike! Very pretty scenery!

Maybe the baler needs a bigger flywheel?
Maybe it's just bored and likes playing choo choo.
You should return to East Idaho during the potato harvest. It is awesome. Idaho is where I spent most of my life.
Some beautiful pictures of the area, thanks for sharing.
Awesome video Mike, there is some absolutely beautiful country in Idaho. I know that state is known for growing some of the best hay in the country.
Beautiful country thanks again for sharing these videos. Great job Mike!
Put a lot of bales through a 4760 and 2150. Great balers, but that 2100 series baler makes a world of difference!
That is beautiful looking country!
The 4960 is a great tractor😁👍 you took some great pictures👍😉 keep up the great work👍
Very nice Mike, beautiful country out there. Waiting for more.👍😁
Wonderful pictures!
Thank you for the video!😊👍🏻
You can hear the 4960 grunt more on the plunger strokes as well as the puff of smoke.
That’s some pretty country up there I see. Never been to Idaho.
Hey mike great vids wish you would do close ups of the hay variety’s and feel
Great drone voltage Mike 👍

Great vid Mike....but I'm surprised they didn't put you to work............hahaha
Appreciated the slide show at the end. Out under that big sky there is no covid19 nonsense.
me gusta saludos de tamaulipas mexico
Also weights of bales with diff hays
My cattle always loves more red clover then alfa-alfa . Even more second , third and forth cut( when it is one ) of grass mix hay .
Pretty neat!
Pretty hay
What a mess the track loader leaves!!!!!!!
Great video to see thank you Mike. :)
Awesome machinery 😀
You don't see a lot of 850 versatile's around any more.
Muy bien 👍👌 amigo
I’ve only got one problem with your videos. There isn’t enough of them 😂
Thanks and I'll work on that. Lots of good stuff recorded just need to edit.
@@farmhandmike no problem! You’re my favourite TH-cam by far.
Must be packing them bales tight to make them tractors grunt
It looks like the 4960 JD has a engine problem... listen to it and look at the exhaust pipe....
Nope just under a load with the plunger on the baler

Track width of the tractors adjusted nicely to the width of swath (rarely to be seen on NA videos) and then the track loader-:)
👍👍
Hi Mike.. It's a pitty Versatile do'nt sell in Europe. I would like to sell them in my country Portugal.

@t A real need to read for all farmers in the USA and across the Planet.
Is that Wolfe bros
No.
@@farmhandmike oh ok
Those Japanese track loaders are really well built. The way they're designed for maintainability really puts Bobcat and Deere designs to shame, sadly.
I live 2 hours From there!
👍
I like Mike less videos in the morning.
First!
Unfortunately you are not making hay, you are baling it. Mother Nature makes hay, not humans. hahaha
That skid loader is tearing up the field 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
Where it’s a forage grain it’s not a huge deal, unless there’s new seeding alfalfa in with it.
