Ewan Dobson - Feeding Common Grackle [June-13-2020]

I like getting the odd visit from a Grackle. They are hard to get because they are very smart birds who play it very safe. They have to see other birds feeding from your hand for a while before they land. I had 3 visits today. Now that this has happened I may likely get repeated visits for the next few days. I saw the Hairy Woodpecker and its offspring today, they might possibly land together soon.
I am wearing gloves because in the summer the mosquitoes and midges come out. Without the gloves it would be torture to stand there still for ages waiting. If you look close you can even see the Grackle getting annoyed by the bugs.

I started sharing my lunch with the grackles in the parking lot by where I work. Cool birds.

If you look closely, you can see how the grackle rotates the peanut while held in its bill to loosen the skin, then puts it under its claws to rip the skin off before eating. 0:34 and 1:22
