  • Luxury and many available options may be the norm for most new muscle cars but back during the original muscle car era this wasn't the case. The exception was the 1970 Chrysler 300 Hurst (300H) which was the ultimate luxury muscle car. It was a big luxury land barge that provided excellent muscle car performance. Only 485 to 500 of these special edition cars were produced in this one year only joint venture of Chrysler and Hurst Performance, INC.

Stunning is a little extreme, it’s certainly striking and unique but I couldn’t go as far as stunning, too slab sided and heavy, especially on the rear though I love the way the spoiler is integrated.

They stop well. Drum brakes get a bad rap. Sure no abs. Most understand the concept of ABS. If the car starts to slide just give the pedal a pump. My old Chryslers had great brakes. Drums work. They handle the road great. Not a road coarse. But normal driving they do better than most new cars. Plus u can steer them with 1 finger. Good cars.

Most probably don't remember they developed and invented ,The Jaws of Life, and gave away the patent for this device! Saved a lot of lives . Mr George Hurst was a humble and great guy! I had the last Vin of this car. I worked in Chrysler engineering and sold it to a friend of Lee Iacocca. I think it was the most expensive Chrysler in 70, @$6,900 bucks. I liked that when the seat was back and the steering wheel was down you couldn't reach the radio so Chrysler put a button on the floor similar to a headlight dimmer so you could change stations when laying back.

I'd never heard of a 300H, ever... however there is an eccentric old man in my neighborhood that still daily drives a slightly beat up '70 Chrysler 300. It's a freaking huge car compared to pretty much anything made today. Seeing it parked next to regular cars is always hilarious. Although this one is not super well cared for they're pretty cool looking cars.

And you can do the same thing with a Toyota Corolla. Go look up Toyota Corolla burnout on TH-cam and watch for hours. Anything can do a burnout.... it just takes a bit more skill (which is why you also see lots of big V8 cars stalling and driving away in burnout attempts on TH-cam too).

Keep in mind with me and my brother and 5 other guys in the car we PINNED the Needle at 120 MPH and blew that Bonneville right off 231 in North Babylon , NY.....will never forget that car and the New Yorker was just as big and Long as The Cry Hurst.

So many people will never know the feeling of pinning a large car, with gobs of power.
I did it with my dad's '77 Mercury Grand Marquis wagon (with the C6 transmission) against so many other cars, it was incredible. The biggest rush was when I dropped a C4 'Vette in '87, from light to light. When the guy pulled up to my at the second light, all he wanted to do was look under the hood of my car.
Around town, or around corners, it drove like a sick whale, but in a straight line... it was insane!!!!

I enjoy the performance videos a lot but wish you would occasionally showcase more mundane "everyman" cars from yesteryear as well as that is what most of us boomers were able to drive. My first car my Daddy gave me was a 1966 Plymouth Fury II with air, automatic, power steering & brakes, & AM radio and that was all. Had a practical passenger-side floor vent and triangle-shaped vent windows. Had a 2-barrel 318 CID V8. Daddy paid $2800 new for it. It had Chrysler's wonderful "command seating" and the visibility was great. You could see all 4 corners of the car. Fantastic bench seat, great for making out at the drive-in. Exciting? No, but I loved it and wish they still made a car like that, even if it was scaled down a bit. Basic but it spelled freedom for this teenager.

I'm a Mopar guy so this is the coolest full size Mopar of the muscle car era. The 1955 Chrysler 300 was the very first American muscle car. But my absolute favorite 1950's car is the 57-58 Chrysler 300 which came with the 375 horsepower(380 hp in 58)392 Hemi engine with dual 4 barrel carbs. Mopar invented muscle cars in 1955-56(1955 Chrysler 300 and 1956 DeSoto Adventurer, Dodge D-500, and Plymouth Fury)...nearly a full decade before the 64 Pontiac GTO came out. The Exner era performance Mopars from 1955-59 were the fastest and most beautiful and stylish cars on the road at that time

To everyone's surprise it started and that big 440 made itself known. It was a very sharp looking car both outside & in. I didn't like American cars then but this car was something different. The last VIN was bought my uncle and then I got it. I worked in Chrysler engineering engine lab from 69 on . I sold it to a friend of Lee Iacocca and this guy had atleast 1 of every letter car from 55 to my 1970 car. A bitchin car but this engine description is close to correct. I had lots of fun with this.

AWESOME car!! I had a '72 New Yorker from 1977 - 1982, which was the Grandpa version of the 300.. It was almost the same car except the New Yorker didn't have the quite as much torque power as the 300 ... everything else was virtually the same though.

had a 72 polara custom two door with a 360 power windows door locks trunk release and the most beautiful cloth bench seat that you would ever see. 3.54 posi and heavy duty suspension George Memoly ordered the car for his mother.he was the owner of Memoly dodge in Staten Island ny the car was T5 blue with a white vinyl top. car got crushed while parked by joy riding car thieves in 1979 I still miss that car to this day. the only thing I didn't like about it was that was the first year they did away with the vent windows.

True, the muscle cars of today have a ton of options. My 2015 ScatPack Challenger is loaded, Auto dimming rearview mirror, auto wipers, front and side collision detection, 10" touchscreen, Back up cam, Bluetooth, SD Card Reader, power sunroof, power tilt & telescopic heated steering wheel, paddle shifters, power sunroof, both front seats are heated with 6 way power with power adjustments, lumbar support and seat fan. My favorite option is of course the fan under my seat that blows on my nuts and lower back lol..... That leather gets hot in the Texas summer but I love my muscle car 👍

Looks like the quad exhaust tips was looted from the Challenger. I grew up when Fury's would have been all over the used car lots, along with everything else of the time. I wonder if I ever saw one of these & never realized it ?

Tnx for doing this on such a cool car. You did a video on the Fury model and I posted a comment I was surprised this option wasn't in that segment not alot of people have even herd of it. I live in Southern California, since the mid 60s I've gone to the drags and car shows who knows how many. In real life I've only seen 1 for sure maybe 2 w this option. I'm not a Mopar fan but Ive always wanted a 70s Fury a really bitch'n car w power to back it up. Tnx for the vid you always do a good job on the research and the naritive. Oops OK now I understand, I just read the description, I always thought it was on the Plymouth Fury platform but apparently it's on the Chrysler 300 model.

It's not actually the Gov't., it's those who control the Gov't and own the Oil, the media, Insurance co's, banks etc., etc. In 1971 they Lied and told us that there was almost NO more oil left, then they started upping the prices, and actually started making the cars consume Much more fuel than before all the while lying to the consumer saying they were more efficient, typical B.S.
