taking another break from tutorials today to share with you my songwriting process. i’m really hoping to make more videos about the songwriting process and my experience with it, so if you guys would like more videos like this, please let me know in the comments!!
in this video, we’re just going to sit down, drink some chai and attempt to write a song in 30 minutes. i never really put a time restraint on songwriting but i thought it would be fun to let you guys see a behind the scenes of how i write my songs and the process. if you want to see more let me know!!

Whenever I try writing a song, I go into this really vulnerable state and like to be completely alone while doing it so kudos to you for literally filming yourself through the whole process 🥰❤️

I’ve written about 70 songs during this last year in quarantine. Most I feel like are pretty good, but I think that others need help. And I also forget the melodys I’ve come up with so recording it on the voice memos app helps a lot.

i usually just keep messing around with it, i try different chords, different capos, different order of the chords, and eventually something sticks but it’s a LOT of trial and error! keep at it💓💓

What taylor guitar are you using in this video?
I want to write an acoustic song about a girl I like. I have the tuning in D standard (DGCFAD) and I was watching this last night when the song title came to me. I was going to call it About A Girl, similar to that of Nirvana’s song but a different vibe, but then I thought, since she’s the girl I want to be with, I called it “You’re The Girl” and that’s as far as I’ve gotten. I have the chords I came up with about a year ago when I was doodling on my electric guitar, as it was originally going to be about my then girlfriend, and because I suck at writing lyrics this video helped me a lot. We will be in college next year and maybe I might have a chance for a relationship with her

Do we need to about the theory or scales to create chord progressions? Or we can randomly pick bunch of chords to create our own melody?
i think some theory knowledge helps, and it can be easier than you might think. if you are familiar with guitar chords look into the circle of 5ths (it basically helps you determine chords in a key) there are certain chords you could also add that aren't in the key, but the chords long story short have other chords they sound good with or evoke a certain mood and keys help determine that :)
