Got into the Dublin Conservatory of Music singing this and Die Forelle at my audition. Hopefully when Im finished my four year degree I'll be closer to my dream of singing in Covent Garden.
you did an awesome job. when you said "still as the hour glass", I could visualize that very moment. Other places captured great word painting images as well. Beautiful lyric voice.
I'm actually going to be singing this, because the person who does my voice lessons thinks it'd be amazing for me to do it, and i already love this song, so... yay! =D
First of all............Ian Bostridge is a tenor. Just listen to his timbre. His expression is incredible. Listen to the empasis and care with which every word is sung, yet all at the same time without breaking the line. I hardly feel "Meh" is an appropriate comment for such beauty.
Very sensitive version. I already mentioned elsewhere that this is original music COMPOSED by a composer,in this case Vaughan-Williams,not "arranged,"altho that can be the case with a traditional or folk tune,(V-W, Grainger & Britten being notable examples). I also said that, as the music loses its introduction, its tempo, its color, shape, texture, all its harmony &its postlude without that essential partner: the pianist,he should ALWAYS be credited; imagine this without him! He is excellent.
umm..... i think he is baritone see how he slips into falsetto for the ending high note regardless he does have a goergoeus voice i just hope i can pull off something as miraculous as this for my grade 7 although this seems about a 3rd higher than how i'm singing it... oh well look up the Vagabond by vaugh williams lovely give to me the life i love let the laave go by me. etc.
I sang this on my senior recital not about two weeks ago. I loved singing it.
so beautiful. Just a perfect interpretation of this piece. Thanks so much for sharing.
Your interpretation brings the poem utterly to life... absolutely in harmony with it in tone and meaning. Beautiful!

Art songs are quite often transposed into different keys with different versions. This particular one is in F Major.
wondrous

@MikeJS57 I'm interested to know what happened with this romance in the year since you posted this...
Is it just me, or does he sing "egg" instead of "edge" at 1:34? Maybe a typo in his music
What's a Kink up field? Just kidding. Now if we could only get Bostridge to record "Songs of Travel". Not enough tenor recordings of that.
