Rukmini, a woman belonging to an impoverished family, faces various hardships owing to the burn marks on her face as she struggles to fight her destiny.
Rukmini a.k.a. Rukmi (Jaya Binju) lives with her father Madan Singh, step-mother Dhapu, younger half-sister Rasal (Toral Rasputra) and half-brother Gheesu. They are poor and struggle to make ends meet. Rukmi, in childhood, had saved Rasal from a fire and got one side of her face burned. Since then, she has been wearing a half veil so that the burn marks are not visible. Rukmi's scarred face acts as a hurdle in her acceptance by society.
इसकी कहानी राजस्थान के जैसलमेर में है। रुक्मिणी उर्फ़ रुक्मी (जया बिनजू) अपने पिता मदन सिंह, सौतेली माँ धापू, सौतेली बहन रसाल (तोरल रसपुत्र) और सौतेले भाई भाई घीसु के साथ रहती है। वे गरीब हैं और जरूरतें पुरी करने के लिए संघर्ष करते हैं। बचपन में रुक्मी ने रसाल को आग से बचाया था जिससे उसके चेहरा का एक भाग जल गया। तब से, वह एक आधा घूंघट पहने रहती है ताकि जलन के निशान दिखाई न दें। रूक्मी का घबड़ाया हुआ चेहरा समाज द्वारा उसकी स्वीकृति में बाधा के रूप में कार्य करता है।
