Given that this was Persia, this didn't happen to your average criminal. Even Haman wasn't subjected to something this cruel, so whoever endured this had to be a pretty bad guy, or anger the king in a highly offensive way.
And probably as true as iron maidens and the like.
This is the same Persia known to have freed slaves en masse because they didnt recognise slavery in their laws, they werent exactly a heavy touch empire.

It seems like there is a sort of sadism bell curve when it comes to intelligence. Elephants and most whales are at the bottom of the curve, while dolphins, orcas, and chimps are in the ascending part, and humans are (hopefully) at the very top. Maybe one day we will descend on the other side of the bell...

This is real psychopathic. Depending on the crime, i can understand society wanting an absolutely horrible punishment like this, but i would bet a lot of the people killed like this werent even that bad by modern standards.
By modern standards murder doesn't justify death
From what I found, the most well known application of that execution method was against Mithridates, a soldier in the army of Artaxerxes II.
Cyrus the Younger, brother of Artaxerxes rebelled against him, trying to take the throne and during the deciding battle Mithridates killed Cyrus. Afterwards he was sworn to secrecy, so Artaxerxes could take the credit for killing Cyrus.
But during the festivities, Mithridates seems to have gotten drunk and boasted about killing Cyrus. And for that he was sentenced to that execution method.
According to the records it took 17 days.
So yeah, even if one could argue that this punishment is justified in some circumstances (I don't, because it is pure sadism). The main recorded way it was used, was for embarrassing the king for lying.
Though to be fair, it was recorded by the ancient greeks, seemingly long after the fact, whose historians have been known to embellish, mix history with legend or change facts to teach some moral lesson. And they weren't exactly fans of the Persians, so there could be more or less to it.
@@theashenstorm5509 This goes QUITE beyond the death penalty my guy. And believe it or not, people still do get the death penalty for murder. Besides, even if society doesn't think murderers should get the death penalty, that doesn't mean society is treating murderers with kid gloves. People have debated for decades that the death penalty is just an easier way to go out than life in prison, so they could have good anti-murderer reasons for being against the death penalty no? I've even seen an actual murderer ask for the death penalty from a judge because it would be easier for him as he would have privacy and his own personal space as he lives out the rest of his life.
It’s hard for me to imagine it getting worse than this. I know it all depends, but for days you feel your skin crawling(which is the very last of the problems) to be slowly eaten by bugs and nested in is probably one of the most violated ways one can feel

Additionally, this is a pretty evil execution method since it ensures significant suffering. That's not to say it wasn't used for "good", punishing supremly awful people, but regardless, this is an "evil" way to execute someone compared to something more humane like the guillotine.

I think the inventor of the brazen bull wasn't killed in it, I think what happened is that somebody wanted to know if it were true screams would come out like bull noises, so the inventor went inside and screamed to prove that the screams could be converted to whistling or bull noises, there wasn't a fire made under it, he wasnt being executed, he was just testing the scream conversion.
