    On the peach: It looks JUST like my Desert Gold that I bought from Reid. The Desert Gold has the same blood colored juice like that and the same looking flesh. Mine were about the same size. The only difference that I can tell is that the Desert Gold is not a full-freestone. It is like semi-freestone if that is a thing. I can't separate it as easy as you did in the video.
    On figs: I just got me first panache fig like two days ago. None of the others are ready so I was shocked to see it drooping down. It was AMAZING. I only have Panache, Kadota, Black Mission, and Black Jack so I haven't tried a large variety. However, it is the best of what I have by far.

    Ah, man, I was right there with you tasting that fig.
    Yo, we got 3 ripe Brown Turkey! These started last fall, then stopped till summer. 2 were delicious, the 3rd iffy because birds knocked it off the tree. One that I wanted to get real ripe was in shreds yesterday morning. So, 4 so far and a ton still green. Got to get out the green organza bags (I wanna call them gabanza :) and start to tie one on LOL. Unfortunately, nothing on the other 2 tree, both of which were planted only a year or so ago. The black mission needs serious pruning because it's turned into a shrub. That and the BT get too much shade and have to grow tall to adequate sunlight. The BT has a compost barrel by it which took part of a wheelbarrow of horse manure this morning (she said she hasn't wormed the horses!). The other two will get the same. Hasta, kids! niio

    • @EdgeofNowhereFarm
      @EdgeofNowhereFarm  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glad you're seeing a harvest on that BT. It's a solid, figgy tasting fig and a consistent producer from year to year for us. The Black Mission will try to bush out every chance it gets. We pruned away all the low branches every Winter to try and get it to get some height.

    Did you go back to using organza bags? I was curious if the purple or colored ones seem to work better? If I recall you started netting your trees because the birds were still attacking your fruit through the bags? I had the same issue with the white bags the birds were just poking through on my tropic snow peach. I even got heavy duty canvas organza bags and they still poked right through them and got every single peach last year. I hate netting it is such a pain and the net catches on everything but is the only thing that seems to work.

      Hey Michael. No, we still resort to netting trees whenever we can. This year we had 2 varieties that are fruiting for the first time and still putting on strong growth, so we didn't want to net them. We were pleasantly surprised with how well they fared with the bags, but we still lost several to birds. Unfortunately, netting really is the way to go!

    Hi guys. I seem to recall you posting a video on the Texas king peach. I can no longer find it here. Did you take that video down?

      I had to go back and track this one down. The title didn't say anything about the Texas King as we were focusing on the Peacotum in the same episode. It's towards the end of this one;

    Duane! I need advice...my one and only old peach tree broke in a wind storm. Can I rescue it by trying to root the branches? I don't have anything to graft it to.

      Oh man, that is a bummer! I wouldn't bother with rooting out a cutting. You may get it to take, but it won't grow well on it's own roots, especially in our soil here. Is it salvageable at all? Anything left above the graft point?

      No, we haven't gone down that rabbit hole, at least not yet (lots of legal hoops to jump through). We do have wine tastings during some of our farm tours though, so you'll have to drop in on one of those and I'll make sure you get a few sips!

      We were on the fence this year and decided not to have our U-pick up and running. Next year we definitely will though. If you're here in town, be sure to join our customer email list through the website as it's the only way we'll market that.
