Czech Regional - short orienteering race in H35 category

- Recording of Czech regional #orienteering short race near Karlovy Vary.
I ran in H35 category. The distance was (I think) 4,4km with 19 controls.
The forest was quite different to what I am used to and I was quite lost at first. 1:7500 also played a role in me getting lost. But more on that is in the commentary.

Záznam závodu oblastního žebříčku Západočeské oblasti u Karlových Varů. Pěkná trať a pro mě neobvyklý terén. Pěkně sem se ztratil hnad na začátku. Měřítko 1:7500 taky hrálo roli, ale severský terén určitě větší. Dělalo mi problém se vyznat v mapě a přesně určit, kde jsem. Bylo tam hodně detailů. Rozhodně to významně obohoatilo moje orientační zkušenosti.

As a newcomer to orienteering, I really love your commentaries which help break down your approach and really help me learn. The map scale I am realising can be different in different events and obviously makes a massive difference! Not sure I'm ready to try terrain as tricky as this map yet, but maybe soon.
Don't be afraid. It can be frustrating to get lost and sometimes I just ask some to tell me where am I.
Where do you live? And yes I agree, the European events have some very aggressive , rocky event sites...which I would also be very hesitant to run on. I’m on the east coast of the US, and we have lots of nice soft wooded forest sites! Lol...and also yes, sometimes map scale throws me off a little...I generallly find that I have not gone far enough along a leg...
@@johnrobertson7583 I live in Central Bohemia in a small town near Prague. There are various types of terrain in the Czech Republic and I have not yet tried them all. Central Bohemia is not so wild. The forests are very cultivated with lots of tracks. Mountainous regions are a bit better in that regard but not always.

No, ten začátek mi velice připomínal některé z mých běhů. Je pravda, že pokud člověk takto zazdí jedničku, pak přijde nejistota a další chyby.
jj, presne. Neuveritelne sem se tam ztrail. Hlavne sem zpanikaril a zacal bezet bez rozmyslu.
