I dont want to sound negative but im australian, we used to get up early and watch the challenge cup final as kids. Wigan always won but im just looking at the empty seats thinking wtf has happened over there. Can anybody fill me in on how league works over there? I know its only played in the north and england isnt big, but the crowd is disappointing and the standard is not great. I think rugby going professional has really damaged league. Ill use owen farrell as an example, he would be playing for wigan like his father. Just a shame
They moved the final from its traditional May date to August bank holiday. It struggled every year since...now they’ve settled on 18th July instead, and introduced a lower league final as a double header.
@@andybibby342 would it be fair to say any young player with ability gets snapped up pretty quick by union these days? I can still remember watching wigan win the middlesex rugby sevens. What a team they had, robinson, offiah, farrell, connoly, edwards, tuigamala, henry paul etc. Now days i dont think any of those boys wouldve played league at all. Union wouldve grabbed them straight away. Again i dont want to sound to negative but if jackson hastings(who is australian) is the best half england can come up with the games in trouble. English football was so good to watch back in the day, the crowds were electric and the quality was much better. When i go through the st helens team who played the roosters, it would finish in the bottom 4 in the nrl. I really hope it comes good again but rugby just has to much money now.
@Andrew-wv6fy sissy football is our national sport, then union, league doesn't get a financial sniff. And it all starts at young grass roots where the training and attitudes of coaches and kids just ain't the same anymore, in the 90's when I played as a kid it was a no messing and total respect thing. Not the same anymore. My lad played and I watched the training and matches. It was painful at times, due to praise given to players who thought it was a one man game and the coaches encouraged it and wondered why they couldn't put together wins.
Warrington finally won
A few saints fans told me they were doing the treble this year
