I’m from Holland. I found the LP Secrets of an Alibi somewhere. It’s one of the best albums I have. Great songs and lyrics. Great harmony singing and great musicians. Actually I have this LP double. This is my all time favorite song. So beautiful. This band is so honest and unfortunately totally underrated. Still playing it for friends to convince them. THIS IS GREAT! Do you get it!

I remember when this song and album came out and the band interviews on MM abd New Music. There was some flak for the lyric, the year 1982 was the year that I fell head over heels for you. Maybe that was it. But it's always been one of my favorites, and it gets so jammy towards the end.

One of the most talented and under-rated Canadian bands - ever. Great players, great melodies. And the crap _factor _idol that we have to put up with today. *Shakes head* NP place in Cdn music history secured. Should have been massive everywhere.

I was head over heels in love with a beautiful Ojibway/Cree woman the summer of '88, this song reminds me of the cool fall breeze in Espanola Ontario and the shitty little apartment we shared for awhile...I miss the 80s.

Faved. Potent song.... powerful lyrics. Not romantic, but real life... love is about waiting after all. Killer guitars, tightest band, Canada's well-kept secret still to be unleashed to the world. Lucky us.

I don’t even know how many times I listened to this cassette in the as a kid in ‘88. On the Walkman on the bike. On the Walkman at work. On the stereo in my bedroom. On the player in my Dad’s truck when I’d have the chance to drive. I can still probably sing the lyrics to each song 36 years later.

This song puts a lump in my throat as I think back to when I was in high school, still trying to find myself and find companionship too.
Promises made in youth, turn out to be impossible to keep as time wears on.
A beautiful and reflective and bittersweet song.

What a strong emotion evoking song. Of love found and lost and the promises that we made. Are the "what ifs" and "where is she now" just echoes of regret? Loved to play Secrets of the Alibi cassette in my '79 Toyota Corolla.

I actually fell for an exotic dancer around 1990 and had this lp at the same time. Really nice lady who actually said ''this dance is for you, sweety, because you're the only one paying attention.'' lol. She got to me. We used to talk a lot. ALWAYS think of her when I play this tune. I only like a few of their songs and this one has SOMETHING,something real I can't really explain fully. A kind of collision of rock, country and power pop?? Thanks.

Every rock band has their own community, and I personally think this is one of the best rock band communities out there. We all come here to listen to the excellent vocals that were written, the heavy strums of the guitars, and man those drums. All of this combined makes me enjoy every single one of their songs I play on repeat. And their music has also helped me through my toughest times and always makes me happy in whatever situation I’m in. I’m 16 and discovered their music when I got the snow in June album in a lot of tapes. And whatever mood I’m in nothing is better than a good old pikes album. Thank you pikes for making the best rock band ever in my opinion and you guys will always be incredible.

This video was also shot, coincidentally, on my 18th birthday (Sunday, June 26, 1988).
I also went down to the Toronto Blue Jays game (with my father) against the Detroit Tigers at old Exhibition Stadium that particular day (which the Jays won by a final score of 4-1). Not only that, but Mike Flanagan (R.I.P.) nearly pitched a complete game for the Jays as well.
And, of course, I still remember Jay Semko's dramatically different hairstyle at that time (considering how much shorter he wore his hair when "Big Blue Sky" was out the previous year in 1987).

Come on Northern Pikes ... pull yourselves back together and get back out there.
The young people of today need your music so very badly to be rescued from the sludge that they are forced to listen to because of the industrialized and disposable nature of the music made today.
Your music is timeless, because the stuff you sing about is experienced by every generation of people. That people remember your music here on TH-cam so fondly should convince you that you'll have a following.

If you want great Canadian bands and writers, get rid of the CBC, CANLIT, and all violations of free speech and free expression. Stop funding art based on national identity. Stop the censorship. Put money into record companies, independent film companies, and projects like Videofact, which helped new artists establish themselves in video. Fund independent touring. Stop attaching censorship, identity, and elitism to Canadian arts.
