Hey Phil, this video came at a great time! I am going to sign up for Singapore since I happen to be in Thailand for work a week before the race! Followed your plan for my first tri ever in September and it went super well. Cheers
Celtman is better than Norseman, having done both. I would say all the xtri and extreme races compare favourably to the vast majority of the Ironman races, and there are now well over a hundred of them. One of the best was Triathlon X in the lakes, which is now gone but may be making a comeback. Lot better route than the Lakesman and one of the hardest I’ve done.
@ I have performed better at Celtman after having a stinker this year at Norseman through sickness😂 But in all seriousness; don’t get me wrong they are both unbelievable races but I think overall the Celtman route just shades it. The Norseman run course is a bit monotonous to be honest for the first 25km and even the infamous Zombie hill section to the car park at the start of the mountain is a bit of a boring road. The mountain section is something else, when the weather plays ball, but the Celtman run is much more varied with circa 5/6x the amount of trail, including the Benn Eighe ridge, which is just phenomenal. The bike is closely matched, the scenery for both is out of this world, Norseman maybe shades it because of the glaciers and the elevation but the tunnel climbs are grim to start, whereas Celtman is generally faster but the road surfaces are heinous. Swim wise there isn’t much in it, the ferry is iconic but the Celtman route with the thousands of jelly fish is also pretty special. Both race crews are the best people you will meet in triathlon too, they really are fantastic. Overall both races are some of the best in the world, but I just think Celtman shades it.
The UK has some of the most brutal long distance races out there! I did Triathlon X in England in 2018 (sadly no longer running at the moment) which had the hardest bike route imaginable. In 2022 I did the Celtman in Scotland in June, which has 10 degrees swim with jellyfish and a windy, exposed bike route. Again in 2022, I did the Brutal Tri in Wales, with a tough bike route and then the marathon which was the hardest of the 3, having to summit Yr Wyddfa. All 3 races are amazing in their own right and with the added challenge of the unpredictable UK weather, these races have to be experienced by any extreme triathlon enthusiast
One of our team has mentioned Celtman before, sounds like an epic day out! You definitely have to be hardy to cope with our british weather when doing long course!
Have a look at Harda Suka in Poland. 5km swim, 234km bike around Tatra Mountains and 56km across Tatras with almost 5k elevation and >20h in total to complete;-)
Title should include the word "extreme" or at least "long" since all the options are long distance triathlons and most of them harder than a normal tri. Or, maybe, the title could include the word "costly" or "hard to register for". That's ok. That was a video about long distance extreme costly and hard to register for triathlons. Now, am I the only one wishing for another video about "affordable and do-able special and great triathlons"?
Fantastic events, I've spoken to a few people that have done them. You definitely need some good mountain running skills for those ones! Do you need to pack two pairs of racing shoes?!
Yeap, two pairs of running shoes required and mandatory kit for running up the mountain. Swimming in Windermere was my most enjoyable open water swim to date.
That's very true. Worth going to spectate for one year as it's quite a spectacle! (You can also register for the following year in person too which helps navigate the impossible online sign up chances.

It's great to hear that your triathlon went well! Hopefully, Singapore will be a fantastic experience for you.

Thanks for the comment. Interesting to hear you speak so highly of Celtman over Norseman, what made that one better?

Great Video; regarding the Lakesman it is said, that it is a full distance, but I think it is a half distance Triathlon. BR, Christoph
Ah that's a shame, it used to have a full distance tri :(

Wow! Have you completed it?
Beastman in Bend, Oregon. Try it out while it is relatively low key, but very well organized event.
Fantastic recommendation, thanks for sharing.
Come to Laguna Phuket Triathlon!
Hopefully one day :D
@@myprocoach123 yessss, and enjoy tropical phuket post-race, best way to recover
Good luck signing up for Norseman now. The few spots are sold out each year.
Yes, true. Those events like Patagonman too have a very high demand.
Norseman is BS. I've tried to get in that race for 6 years. It's a lottery and you have to pay to enter. I no longer attempt to enter.
there could be the Altriman and the ALpsman, which are stunning
They both look amazing. As does Embrunman.
That’s me n my boys at 4:00 🍻.. just got entry to ICON next year in Italy 🏔️🥵
Wow, what a great moment that must have been! Good luck at ICON. That looks like another event we could have included in the video.
Knysna Extreme Triathlon in South Africa
Fab, thanks for the recommendation!
❤Elbaman❤
thanks for the recommendation! WIll check it out.

We can definitely add that idea to our list :)
The ROC England, Wales, Scotland or opt for the Trilogy! Swim, bike, mountain run, bike, trail run. AWESOME 😊

As someone who lives in the bay area, where there's seals, there's sharks
Thanks, that's a saying that's worth remembering! 😀
Almost impossible to get into Challenge Roth.
