I think working in hospitality is much like Victorian conditions. I worked for 17 years front of house and as a patissiere in restaurants- very macho, 14 hour shifts, at places where I wasn’t allowed toiled breaks, at places where I wasn’t provided meals yet there was nowhere to get food in a break, places where your best was never good enough- I graduated with co honours in my year, and it was still never good enough. I used to work 88 hour weeks, and yet experienced wage and superannuation theft (superannuation pay is compulsory in Australia). I feel some industries are very slow to change
A true historian, who doesn’t patronise people from the past. She lives and breathes her subject. Why aren’t you giving her her own show, BBC? We need more!
I wish she would do a series on this instead of a 5-minute clip. Her past ones including Edwardian farm, pharmacy, Tales from The Green valley were fantastic! She should do those done with new topics!

I’ve gotten used to seeing Ruth in period clothing in Victorian Farm, Secrets of the Castle, etc. it’s weird seeing her in modern clothes. 😊 I enjoy watching Ruth though; very knowledgeable!
I ❤Ruth Goodman!!! She does a great job at sharing her knowledge of different eras. The farm episodes were my favorite. I wish these ones were longer, 10 minutes is not nearly long enough, and then have to wait for more!!!! I want a 24 hr special!!!

The peak of the industrial revolution in the Victorian era is closer to us than we think. My grandfather, born in 1895, was a mining surveyor in county Durham. As a young man he would have come across people with memories of Robert Stephenson.
I clicked on this video because it was Ruth! I’ve watched all of her reenactment series! She is so great and I love the way she explains things, makes it easy to explain.
This one reminds me to go back and listen to the talk she gave on how coal changed how people lived and worked (highly suggest it to anyone who's bothering with comments)
Love to listen and learn from Ruth. It's almost like she was present in those moments of history.Wish she had been my history teacher when I was young. She can hold your interest and make you picture it.
I remember when Ruth said that a farmer's wife would often have to help the farmer with his chores, but he would never help her with her work, which still had to be done after she'd been out helping. Many wives would be beaten for not having food on the table. My great Grandfather would spend all the weeks wages in the pub, then beat my NanNan up for not having any food for him when he came home. She had to work herself cleaning, brought up 2 daughters and have to put up with her husband. Gawd Bless Her!
I adore this woman’s content… Thank you, Ruth you are one of my favorite historians… I have watched everything I can on TH-cam and would love to just tell you how wonderful you are enthusiasm, and your lessons from our past have just been so so wonderful
She's back! Everyone click like so they bring her back again.

Great to see you Ruth
RUTH! There's a lot of history in the Victorian era ALONE. Can't we get more frequent uploads and longer videos with Ruth Goodman wielding her magic?
Just what I was going to say. I'd love some long-form videos of Ruth's expertise here.
