    I don't know if I have a passion. I lost most of my youth and a lot of my adult life life depression. And adult life just became about survival, always barely making ends meet and then struggling to take care of myself due to mental and physical illness. I don't know what I enjoy because it's not often that I can afford to do leisurely things. And it has become a cycle because my current job runs me into the ground every day, leaving with hardly enough energy to shower and get to bed. Feeding myself sometimes isn't even an option due to the fatigue. And I have felt like having ASD and ADHD have made it very difficult to fit in, in a workplace. I feel like my current boss actually recognizes that I'm a human being (unlike past jobs for large corporations) and she tries to understand my fatigue and such but she still gets angry at me for just being wired differently and being sensitive to her angry criticism (she's not very good at calmly giving feedback). I feel so stuck and stumped. I want to try to pursue post-secondary education (only ever graduated high school) but I have no idea where to begin! And I have to change jobs to make it happen, because this one zaps me of all of my energy. I've tried asking for guidance on Reddit with little success. I've tried talking to counselors and they just don't seem to know how to help me. I don't know where to turn. I have no quality of life and no work/life balance right now. 😞

    • @MemorableChannelName
      @MemorableChannelName 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I understand the feeling. I'm still searching for something I could call a passion. I feel as though I've wasted a lot of my adult life so far doing administration work that has never made me happy or paid enough to live comfortably. But I've struggled with depression and a lack of motivation as a result and haven't felt like it was possible to make a change. The things I enjoy definitely aren't able to be turned into careers... so I broke out down a bit further. I looked at tiny things within my life that I enjoyed doing, rather than on the large scale. Something I've always enjoyed and been very good at is typing on a keyboard. So now I've just put my best foot forward and I'm jumping in to freelance transcription work with an opportunity to work from home. Fingers crossed it works out. I am also hoping to study computer science through a free online course with the extra time I gain.
      I'm not sure I can offer any special advice, but it's definitely possible to make a change. Focus on things you get enjoyment from, even if they don't seem like career paths, think about how they could be related to one. I really like helping my friends out and seeing them smile, which gets me thinking that maybe I'd like to help people, as a counselor or a teacher or something. I can picture myself in those roles and it makes me smile. I can't picture myself smiling in my current career.
      Right now I am scraping by on bills so I have to be very careful with how I make the shift in career path seamless financially. It's stressful but will be worth it in the long run.
      All I can say is keep going and keep hoping. Look for any opportunity life offers you and jump on it. Investigate alternative jobs that you can get in to now, maybe part time work could be viable, even if you're working one less day a week, it's another day to recover and do what you want to do.
      There will be a way forward. It might be difficult to find at the moment, but it's there somewhere.

But do you know that this things you do may be the things you are passionate about when it comes to doing them. So you are the only one in the position to know what you really love doing, maybe it's taking care of people in the future like becoming a doctor or fighting for human rights.... One question to discover their passion, I've heard, is: At age 8, 9 or 10, what did you race through your homework, skipping some of it, to do? What was more important than your school work at that age? That age is considered important, because often the youngster has all the basic competencies and hasn't selected a focus yet.

    I’m 21. Went to community college for a year. Took a year off to try out another career path. Failed. Came back to college with new motivation and got straight A’s. I got into an awesome Tech school. The best in my state. And also received a 75% coverage annual scholarship. The only problem. One year into my junior year and in my tech classes I question whether or not I want to do this the rest of my life. So far, it’s been mostly programming classes. I hope maybe the networking or cybersecurity classes will excite me more. But idk what to do. I feel like I’m losing motivation and starting to fall behind because I’m not as invested as I once was. Idk what the hec I want to do now. I’ve considered medicine and I’ve considered dental school. But I’ve never been a fan of biology or chemistry. Yet, science is a huge hurdle to becoming a Dr. What do I do? Finish my degree? Maybe I find a decent tech job I like. Or wha? Maybe it’s my perspective. I know it could be worse. I feel ungrateful. But I also wish I looked forward to what I’m doing rather then dreading it.

    My passion is American History, whether it be Military, Political, etc. Let me preface that by saying that I have no desire to become a teacher in this day and age where kids are only taught on how bad things were, at a given time. Civil War Battlefields, any Museum or Historic Place, have always been places I love to frequent, but at my age & income, can't afford to get a college degree in these areas, just to start at the very bottom somewhere, hence my dilemma. Would be nice if I knew jobs in those areas that paid well and could be fulfilling to either preserve or interpret the history itself, on a full time basis.

    I don’t know what to do. I don’t know what my passion is. I’m just about to graduate year 12 and don’t know what to do at uni. My whole life so far I’ve been told that I’m smart, that I’m good at maths/science. Then there’s the other side of people who say that I’m caring and should do something that will help people. (I also used to get called creative, but nah). But I find people tend to use the term caring less and less. It’s not that I don’t care, it’s that I have less and less energy and courage to do those things anymore.
    I have a lot of empathy, I usually understand where people are coming from , but I have so much trouble communicating with people. Like I’m not that caring friend that everyone goes to when they need support. I’m the awkward one who wants to help, but has so much anxiety/ social anxiety, that all basic communication have gone out the window.
    In some ways I think I’m a people person, in soooo many others I think I’m not. I’m not interested in drama at all. Like love island and all those shows are just boring to me. I am however interested in psychology I suppose, as when I just thought of that drama, my mind went towards why humans do that. I don’t know, clearly I’m just having a brain dump.
    The only thing I do know is that my anxiety and other mental health problems are clouding my interpretation of my true self and what I want to do. Every time I think of a career, I think of why I wouldn’t be able to do it. For example, I don’t think I could work in a lab because doing experiments at school terrified me due to the potential for doing something wrong, judgement from teacher, wearing weird things etc. I don’t think I could do something with responsibility because I’d just crumble under the pressure. I don’t think I could do a university course where we do practical things with no real direction I suppose like paramedicine/nursing , I’m so afraid Of doing something wrong and being judged etc.
    Then I think about all the things I used to enjoy and how so many people are so unhappy and unsure with their lives. I don’t know if everyone thinks how I do. But from my interpretation of the world, no one is truely happy (as an adult). Like I feel as though nothing I do from here on out will compare to that of my childhood. That is a really depressing thought and makes it all seem kinda pointless. For example, I loved theme parks as a kid (still do), but the magic of those kinds of places wears off when you realise that they are a business, money making priorities, all the techniques they use to run the place, how the rides work, the workers who probably hate their job there.
    Another example is learning how movies are made, all illusions are gone and it makes it much less exciting and more sad.
    The more I learn about something, the more sad I get.
    There’s no magic, there’s no spark.
    I don’t know. If anyone can make sense of any of what I just said and would like to give me some guidance, that’d be great:))

    Jeez. Being a fireman is unrealistic? Come to Kentucky. They’re hiring those ALL. THE. TIME. Straight out of high school. No certifications required. They’ll pay for it and train you under the department for those certifications. My local fire department is always desperate.

    • @seventeen9718

      What's the pay like for a new entry? I'd love to be a firefighter but here in Aus, you're not likely to break 90+K/year.
      Why the fuck would I be a firefighter and risk my life for little, when I could be a land surveyor and hit 100k+ benefits (mobile, car, iPad, etc)? Doesn't make any sense..

    • @May-qb3vx
      @May-qb3vx 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@seventeen9718 You will probably never break 100k a year regardless where you go unless you get into admin as a chief or officer. That’s the case with a lot of gov jobs, especially in public safety and emergency services. The average pay here is 47k but the cost of living here is significantly lower than in Austin. Coming from someone who grew up a fireman’s kid and whose uncle got that high-paying desk job, firemen aren’t running all the time here like they probably would be in Austin. They nap most of the day because that’s just the nature of being in the middle of nowhere. They work 24 on, 48 off and during that 48 off a lot of them get a second job to keep themselves occupied (it’s less about bills than you might think). It’s also rare to find someone who is only a fireman because the department will also pay for training and certifications to be a medic or EMT and then you get quite the pay bump. If you want to be rich, be a land surveyor. If you want to help people, then emergency services is a good option. Neither fire nor police get paid much of anything until you are there for at least 5-10 years. That’s just where the budget is.

I know we don’t have wildfires here unless something absolutely crazy is happening and I know bushfires are the norm for you all and that they’re getting worse.
