      Ikr I was crying on the inside for the fact that the Mother instead of using her time to spend it with her daughter while she's alive; she used her time left to make such eloquent letters for her daughter in the future so that she can talk to her even she's dead.

I thought those letters were supposed to be sent for medical help or whatever so that she could live her life longer but they are actually letters for Anne to read when she could no longer be by her side.

    Violet's character arc may focus mainly on her experience as a child soldier, and I'm certainly glad that real world veterans have a character they can connect with, but there is a lot to be said for how many of her personality traits also match up with various symptoms of Autism Spectrum Disorder. As someone who happens to fall on the spectrum myself I find Violet to be a very endearing and sympathetic character, even if my own symptoms and experiences don't perfectly match with hers.

    • @mothersbasement

    I immediately loved this anime from episode one. I don't understand why people were calling it boring and overrated when it first came out.
    Edit: Jesus Christ, I didn't expect people to explode over this. I personally enjoy this anime quite a lot. I think what many people look over in this show is how this is supposed to be a slower character growth series, and because it doesn't appeal to them then they call it boring. This is the story of a girl who probably suffers from PTSD and is emotionally stunted because of it. She's not going to become a whole new person in 1 episode or something. There is lots of nuance and small details to be loved in this show.

    • @d_wang9836
      @d_wang9836 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      TheGreatMillz Cause she is a boring character. Herbsad background doesn't change that fact. And nohuman acts like any characters in the shoem. This isn't usually a problem, but this anime tried to be a character based anime. You can't do that when the characters emotions are boring, and every other emtion diluted to boredom

    • @RonnocFroop
      @RonnocFroop 6 ปีที่แล้ว +59

      Most of the negative reviews I saw after the first episode completely missed that Violet was broken and would heal over time. They only saw her as another emotionless Kuudere type character despite HOW BIG A DEAL THE FIRST EPISODE MADE OF IT!

    • @PlayJayMc
      @PlayJayMc 6 ปีที่แล้ว +37

      Duwang Man "every character emotion is boring" is kinda subjective and you cant know for sure that people don't behave the way they do in the anime. It's another world that just went through a war yet imo it still feels so relatable even if not always because of the character but the little landscape-shots and that stuff. For me this show is somewhere around a 9/10 and for other people it may be worse but dont go around saying how people behave and how they don't in real-life.

      Tbh, the anime a gorgeous, but it has a slow start and the first few episodes weren't the best compared to the last few episodes. I finished watching this anime last night, and it was beautiful. From art to storytelling, this show is truly a masterpiece. First thing you will notice is that the visuals are simply stunning. The backgrounds blew me away from the first second, and the crazy amount of detail put into every little thing is gorgeous. The way they animated the eyes was crazy to me, they are so vibrant and *beautiful.* And the story is just a really good message on explaining what makes human emotion and individuality. What makes the very human essence and our personalities. Seeing someone experience a *major* loss, and not understand anything else, so confused and having a feeling of worthlessness all because you don’t feel useful, only to not understand how the human mind thrives on emotion, and not order. Seeing Violet develop a personality through witnessing the core of humanity in every emotion you could name, it’s beautiful.
    For anybody looking for a tear jerker anime with gorgeous visuals and a deep storyline, this is the show for you. Even if that isn’t your norm, still give it a shot, atleast for me, it was definitely not a mistake to watch.

    I do connect with violet, but not because I am a veteran or something. When I was 10, we had just moved to another country last year, leaving everything I knew behind. Suddenly, my mom needs to go back for about a month because my grandfather (her father) is dying of cancer. No one else could go with her because we didn't have the money. I felt like I was out of my league; a fish out of water - I had no understanding of what was going on. When he died, it almost crushed me completely, and the feeling that I had betrayed him by not being there began, a feeling I still experience now. Now, I know a few more stories about what happened to my mom when she was there, and that scares me even more than when he died. It's not much compared to Violets story, but she also seems to feel like a bit of a fish out of water. I mean, that's just what I took from it.

    I made the terribly wonderful decision to binge this show at 11 pm and boy did I sob throughout it. You're totally spot on w/ the not-feeling-it-at-first thing, but going on this roller coaster with Violet wrecked me. It didn't even really hit me till you mentioned it that, yeah, Vi felt as though everything she did for the Major was for nothing. And I may have teared up again.
    Overall, this anime deserves all the love it gets. Its hype is as real as the emotions in it.

    I love violet evergarden, such a heartfelt story with amazing character development and really teaching violet what it meant to be "human" again, rediscovering her emotions, thoughts and feelings she thought were worthless. Episode 7 and 10 are the best episodes for me, both made me cry so hard, but especially ep 10.
    My only problem with the anime is the 2020 movie, where gilbert and violet's relationship got romanticized, I always viewed them having a father-daughter dynamic so the movie kind of ruined it for me, especially when I recently rewatched it and felt uncomfortable every time violet thought about gilbert.
    Either way, it wont change the fact that I love this anime, how beautiful it is, how the story is so moving, how the music is amazing. It'll always be one of my favorites.

    As a former soldier with both combat ptsd as well as an unrelated trauma happening in close succession.... the first time I watched this show I saw me in violet. Not hyping myself up as a super soldier because nothing is farther from the truth... but the way that she had to effectively learn how to feel... how to identify those feelings and convey them was a perfect analogy for my return home. I spent multiple years an emotionless husk resorting to disconnection and anger as a means of avoiding understanding and empathy. When you are as damaged as violet... you have to dig deep into yourself in order to even catch a glimpse of emotion and going that deep into yourself is terrifying. Watching as violet slowly makes her way to understanding that she isn’t emotionless and she does feel the same things everyone else does reminded me of my journey out of that situation. Seeing the change as she finally makes a real connection with her heart again and all that emotion ripping out mirrored that moment for me. No matter how many times I rewatch the emotional sledge hammer hits the same because of how relatable a character she is. I will always be thankful to kyoani for this show because sometimes I need a reminder on how to cry and connect... and this show hits that mark every time.

    Though some people think violet and major relationships is romantic but I don’t think that the writer meant it as that but rather a father daughter relationship cause violet never had a parent figure in her life and around the father writer ep that she start to realize her “burning” body and her memory do the major bug idk just a theory!

      To me, it doesn't really matter what kind of relationship it was. They had mutual love for each other, that's all that matters. And the obscurity of their relationship to a certain extent is what makes the anime so heartwrenching, as neither Violet, nor us the audience, understood the complete mess of emotions that she was going through.

I remember my mom caugh me crying while watching this and told me "Thats not even real, why are you crying?" But it was real accualy. It was what lot of humans suffering, feeling... I watched the entire series one night, with my sister who was on break from college. I really can't describe how beautiful this show is. Everything about it, from the visuals, and music, to the story are so masterfully crafted, that I remember turning to my sister after episodes, or after particularly heartwrenching/warming moments, and seeing her eyes watery and red, same as mine. Violet Evergarden gets to you. It doesn't just affect your heart, it speaks to your soul. I'm sure even the hardest, grizzled, most apathetic person, would be softened by this work of art, maybe even shed a tear. Violet Evergarden's story will forever stand as one of the most emotionally important, and beautiful things I've ever watched. I hope Kyoto Animation can get back on their feet soon, and be able to create masterpieces like this again.

    As a veteran of the US Army (1991-2013) and longtime anime fan, I have never been so moved as I was with this show. I so hope this program gets more promotion as not just a good anime, but as a way to teach family and friends of a member of the military of the changes they will encounter; covering both Violets’ struggle with being an amputee and her mental health issues.
    The episode that touched me the most was the one with the veteran who need a crutch to get around. Seeing a character dealing with both mobility issues and Survivor's remorse brought be back to when I was medically retired from the Army.
    Seeing Violet go from being this cold and emotionless person to someone, who is able to open up and share her feeling, reflects how many come to cope with the pain of things seen and actions taken in deployments across the globe.
    And yes, I too was brought to tears many times.
    As a side note, there is a new single episode added to Netflix. (labeled Violet Evergarden special and not included as part of the first season)

    I stumbled onto Violet Evergarden by chance without knowing anything about it at all. As a Vietnam Vet Medic with a Bronze Star (yes, I’m an old man) it had me in the first few minutes. Seeing what they did within those minutes I knew the potential of what was likely going to unfold. And it did. No, I didn’t cry. But each episode that I binge watched captured me more and more. Humans are such amazing creatures. How we can allow the complete suspension of the reality that this is a “cartoon” world and let her have a life that affects our emotions so very deeply is amazing. I think this hits harder if the viewer has lost a parent or sibling or another they truly loved. The more human experience one has just gives Violet more to work with. A lost love...a hungered after relationship that never happened...something that hurt you or if you hurt someone and regretted it...and on and on...the painful things that happen to us as humans...the writers, artists and actors bring the emotion of past experiences to make the story and characters real. We don’t have to have had a military experience for Violet to affect us deeply. Our lives are the war and the battlefield that allows us to relate to Violet. Violet is truly a thing of beauty and a special achievement.

    My grandpa fought in the Second World War and well anime was something he kinda bonded with me. Pokémon, dragon ball, Naruto. All of that he’d sit with me and watch. The first episode hyped me up and he entered hospice care feeling his time was up. Weekly new episodes were what I watched with him next to his bed. Then he passed and episode eleven came by, and that hit me hard. The soldier passing along with my grandpa. Sometimes he’d tap the screen of the iPad and pause it tell me what it was like during the Japanese Occupation of the Philippines and what happened after, he commanded a tank and well there in that metal box he lost his comrades escaping with his loader to become a guerrilla and freeing Bataan. But well thanks to Kyoani we connected in those final moments. It’s sad to know that one of those over thirty people dead may have helped that and I can’t see anymore do their work. But maybe they’re with my Grandpa and he’s telling them his stories.

      It's because most people hold onto the preconceived notion that cartoons, and anything that's animated, are primarily for children. They believe that animation can only tell childish stories for young children. When that's not the case at all, and you can have everything under the sun be animated.

    • @kenohki3492
      @kenohki3492 4 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Quite honestly, somewhere between wartime cartoons (the violent Looney Tunes and earlier) and now, animation became (at least in the USA) regarded as a genre rather than a medium. Meaning, when you heard "cartoons" or "animation" it led a person to immediately think "children" "childish" instead of a method of expressing genres (a medium like film, television, animation). Other cultures continued using animation as a medium. This all sounds better in my head...

      Have you seen the series or episode 10? Without spoiling just in case you haven't been following the series, the main theme of the entire series is an attempt to answer the question, "What is love, and how does love manifest in all its forms?" The basic theme of episode 10 without going into great detail is focused on Motherly Love and the transcendent nature of love. It is a beautiful well-paced episode that has an incredibly emotionally resonant ending.

    • @kcsupersonic1
      @kcsupersonic1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      I don't really know whether or not you are trolling me or not, but if you want me to explain why I felt it was incredibly emotional, I will. I personally resonated with the message present in the title of this episode, "Loved Ones Will Always Watch Over You." Even from the title, you can infer that the main theme of this episode is that true love endures all things. Neither time, nor illness, nor distance nor even death itself have the ability to strip away or negate true love. You see this in the character of the mother, who cares so deeply about her child that she wants to give her daughter to always remember that no matter what time may do to separate them, she will always and forever love and care for her. It is emotional to me, because I understand what it means for a parent to sacrifice and do utterly incomprehensible things for their children. I related to the child who could not understand her mother's actions because I've been in that place before as a kid. I also relate to the mother because I understand what it means for someone to love unconditionally and completely. Many other fans of this episode will likely tell you something similar, but unless you have some sort of connection to the theme of this episode, you won't understand why it is emotional.

The ep when she writes the letters for her past enemy an couldn't save him. Watching him run for his life an desperately trying tk get away screaming "I don't wanna die!!!!!" Calking out the name of the girl waiting for him at home.....that broke me. That had me texting my bf an needing to hear he was okay an that he loved me, because he plans to hoin the military. The way the animators got the emotions just right were beyond any anime I've ever seen. I now have a new standard for anime.

    Is it just me to realize that the theme of empathy in this show was masterfully ironic?
    I mean think about it. The reason we all cried so hard on this show was because it dragged us, the viewers, into its own plot. As if we were part of the story somehow.
    I did not realize how we were on a journey with Violet herself until the last episode, were it was hard to say goodbye to such an inspirational masterpiece.

    Let me tell you. Violet Evergarden broke me down in such a way, It took me a while to pick up my phone cause I couldn't see or move through my tears and heartache. I dont think I ever cried that hard for an anime since Erased (yes erase made Me cry)

      George it's about this guy that can sense when something bad is going to happen, and can go back in time to stop it from happening. He ends up traveling so far back that he is is school again and he has to save this girl who was abused by her parents and kidnapped by (someone I will not name or that will spoil it)
