Sonic Advance was Sonic the Hedgehog's second appearance on a Nintendo console (being beaten by Sonic Adventure 2: Battle ( tasvideos.org/2779M ) on the GameCube by 10 days), and he brought all his friends with him. You can play as Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, or Amy on a mission to stop Dr. Eggman from taking over South Island.
This run improves the previous submission by 00:19.89 seconds, thanks to a new route in Angel Island 1 and general optimization.
There's also a run using Knuckles ( tasvideos.org/2845M ), Tails ( tasvideos.org/2950M ), and a couple Sonic ( tasvideos.org/1665M ) runs ( tasvideos.org/2028M ). - เกม

So that's how she's able to chase Sonic all day.
Whoever designed Amy's gameplay needs an award. She's different without feeling handicapped. There are situations where she clearly shines above the other characters.
I was thinking the same thing. The game design is brilliant, I can see why nothing like it has been released in the Sonic Franchise. It is like lightning in a bottle.
“without feeling handicapped” is a bit of a stretch considering how conditioned most of us are to automatic spins in our jumps

I like how she goes through the level so effortlessly but still manages to look like a klutz and a kid tripping over herself and waving at the camera.

I love how for moments Amy is like she is running the fastest she can do and suddenly she breaks the sound barrier. I find that funny

Man Amy is SO fun to play as in Advance 1, so underrated. Wish she could have transitioned to Mania in an official capacity

@@zeusthefox1585 that's not really a fair comparison. Peach is basically the leader of Mario's world. Amy is honestly a normal person that hangs around the the hero when he's around. I get that she's popular, but she's not the type that would have their own game (well, she does have that one mobile game from 03)

Peach is the Lead female Role in the Mario Series.
They've both been Damsels in distress, and have both aided their main hero in saving the day, on more then one occasion.
And both a have a good sized fan base.
AND Amy has way more character then Peach does.

That being said, I think that's a really stupid reason.
Loved playing as Amy as a kid, my mind exploded when I discovered different hammer tech

The hammer spin move makes Amy the only character who can spin around all 3 axes (vertical and both horizontal).

@@ultralowspekken down+b in midair; it makes you go downwards and allows you to move horizontally, especially if you "bounce" off of something.
This old game sprite works still looks amazing two decades later.

4:05 the little hammer swing to finish off Eggman's hovercraft was hilariously comedic.
I loved that skip jump she did instead of the spin dash, it ignored momentum and terrain inclinations, it was truly different from the rest of the cast. I wish they had kept that design philosophy in further games.

5:44 was the funniest part I even see - Amy just trolled at Eggman with her balancing position.
This has got to be the most stylish speedrun I've seen, TAS or otherwise. Amy's interaction with Eggman at 5:42 was just so well done.

I always thought Amy was the worst character since her jump doesn't even do damage and the only way to attack is being really close to the enemy. But I didn't know she had so much tech to her. I knew about hitting springs with the hammer to get boosts and the mid-air hammer flip attack (used those to death). And I knew about the little jumpstart to her run but I thought that was kinda useless. No idea she had a hammer flip jump or the spinning hammer though. How do you even use those? I never saw them in the instruction manual.

This game has no speed cap? Are we sure dimps made this game?
The speed cap in all Advance games _should_ only be at the peak of a jump with no actions. All other times the games slow you down are as a result of friction's exponential nature, mostly when rolling.
My first time playing Amy as a kid I was like "I HATE THIS" but she grew on me and after a while that's the only person I wanted to play as. She was really fun.

Too bad they butchered her in Advance 2 by making her a clone of Sonic in pretty much every way and by making her an unlockable character that is tedious to get.
Thankfully Advance 3 redeemed herself somewhat.

Ive been playing mods of Sonic 1-3 where she has this moveset and shes so much fun. Made me respect Amy like I never did before, so kudos to this games moveset for making her so great.
Question: is Amy the fastest of the 4? I know Tails can skip the penultimate act, but Amy can actually brake and spring cancel with her ducking and her hammer. Wouldn't surprise me if she were the fastest of Advance 1
the sonic, tails and knuckles (no ultraspindash category) runs linked in the description all clock at 13:xx, with knuckles being the fastest. the unrestricted sonic run clocks at 10:xx

when i played this game Amy was kinda awkward to control and the TAS makes her look easier to control than she's actually is, good job for who ever made this run, and also has earned my respect for beating this game with that most underated Sonic character of all time^^, some people may found her annoying which its quite accurate but she also made me laugh a few times and also a good reasons why i loved the 3D sonic games during my childhood
To be honest whenever I could I played as Amy in the sonic games, Idk why, she's kinda like an underdog that I enjoy walloping people with.

Amy's one of my fav game chars,along with Tails.
She's so counter intuitive at first, but then you get used to her movement and BAM! She's so fun to play.
Then Sonic Advance 2 made her pink Sonic.

I didn't vibe with Amy the first time I played the game as her, but later on it became one of the most interesting and constantly unique playthroughs of the game for me. Every time there's some new shit you can do.
It's a shame how due to copyright we would probably never see these games on a collection and we need to get a gba or emulator to use them
What copyright? That games were rereleased for Android and Wii U back in 2016, albeit only Japan

The Sonic Advance series is my favorite sonic game series behind Sonic Adventure Series. I love a variety of characters with a great game style! I hope I get to see another game similar to Sonic Adventure or Advance!!!

This is amazing! I wonder what the hardest stage to do would've been...?
I'd say Egg Rocket, but it was also the most interesting and varied (in terms of techniques to try and use, etc...). The most painful part was the one that starts at 12:20, both the big slopes, because managing the speed to go fast enough but not too fast to still trigger the boosters was really not fun.
Is it measured by in-game or real time? Because if it's the latter, I feel like watching 30,000 extra points count down takes longer than the .9 seconds it would have taken to bleed out the timer for a smaller bonus.
in Sonic games speedruns the time is measured by in-game time

Despite Amy's inexplicable and stupid lack of an ability to spin attack like any other Sonic character (despite being able to do so in SA2 which came out before this game, and just being a fucking hedgehog) being very much annoying to me, watching speedruns as her is actually quite entertaining.
They did it like that to replicate her playstyle in Sonic Adventure where she also couldnt spin and had to rely on her hammer.
Amy's hammer is often better than having spin attack if you play well anyway. Just anticipate things and you can enjoy significantly increased range to work with. Also, sometimes she can hammer out of springs (like this game), which gives her even more safety.
Amy's lack of a spin isn't unnecessary, it's a required nerf if she's gonna be allowed to do actual things with her hamner
For me, I saw Amy not having spin jump as challenge mode basically.
I always thought it was kinda cool. Especially in sonic adventure. I loved just bouncing around. Plus it gave her some personal style
@@CabeliotCometier I think Advanced 3 had a good blend going with some of the matchup movesets she had. The mechanic when paired with her as the partner where you do a basic jump and have to manually curl into a ball is also a happy medium for Amy-centric movesets.
Amy was terrible in this game.
She was plenty fun. She isn’t if you didn’t know how to use her.
Everything about this game sucks. The music sucks. The stage design sucks. The physics suck. The sprites sizes and animations are awkward. And nobody cared back in the day, because we were children. We hadn't yet come to realize that Sonic most of the time sucks.
Except Ice Mountain Act 1 and Egg Rocket Act 1 music, those were great. When not sped up stupidly.
