It's pretty appropriate how in the beginning this is really stylistically similar to the John Lennon song "Mother", considering the influence of that song on the series.
Hello everyone, this is the poster himself. Just thought I'd drop a comment with a little bit to say. to think, I still can't remember the password to this old account. I am fine with that, honestly. I will always have memories of this account of humble beginnings of being a kid that fell in love with this series. If it wasn't for youtube, I wouldn't have discovered this wonderful series or even met one of my oldest closest friends. We were barely in our teens, I posted this video when I was 13 years old, I wasn't even 14 just yet at that time. I am gonna be 26 this year, man time flies...I have so much to thank this series for getting me through almost all of my teen years, It still isn't easy being a fan of Earthbound(or Mother) whatever you prefer to say it is. This series connects all of us fans together in a sense, though we grow older and move on to other ventures. It is this lovely reminder of where we came from. These last years have not been the best on everyone and I am here to say it's okay, we will get through this. I know it is rough out there, you aren't alone. I want you to know that life will always have its ups and downs, no matter who you are. But you probably heard that all before, in short best wishes to all who found this video. Of course, I always play this, I still miss my beautiful, strong homeland: Indonesia. I had and spent a really good time with some of my friends(and neighbors), my grandparents, and my cousins too there. It's just... unforgettable, and nostalgic. If I just look back to the past. I would never forget it, and the ones who I love the most, is my biological father who passed away since 12 years ago(February, 2010). I was 3 years old back then. And there are three words that I would never miss: "I Miss You".
Never knew this song existed way back when Mother 1 was released. Sad this wasn't featured on the album, this version became my favorite! If it only had the "i miss you"...
I've had the Mother Vocal Album (which this is on) on my iPod for years. This is by far my favorite version (Besides the "Bound Together" cover), even though the quality is spotty.
At first I was like, "Eh, pretty good." But then at 1:32, I realized that this was better than the released version. Also, with this version, you can more clearly tell that the flutes section (2:10) is supposed to resemble "Strawberry Fields Forever."
@@princebanana2758 But that means Flying Man at least was still written for Mother 1 because there's a vocal version of it released in 1989 despite it not being used as a game song until EarthBound. (year late reply whoo)
The quality of this entire album is absolutely incredible. They could’ve easily just put the original in-game music on a disc and been done, but I’m so glad they did this instead.
god i could cry to this song. not kidding, it's so emotionally resonant with me, especially 1:56 - 2:23. i'm nearly tearing up writing this. mother is a fucking beautiful series. never die.
I think yeah, the flute part is inspired by the mellotron in Strawberry fields but the chord sequence is basically the main part of Dear Prudence. Not surprising since it's clear Keiichi Suzuki is a huge Beatles fan.
Grown-ups have done so much more stuff than me There's many things that I still want to see Now I take my backpack to the world and fill it with memories My favorite base-ball cap rests on my head My worn out sneakers, faded white and red My own guitar pick, shiny and clear Safe in my pocket, right here Though sometimes I got sad and almost cried You were right there with me, by my side I knew we were friends to the core But maybe it was something more Together we walked that road for so long We laughed, we played, we got hurt, we grew strong When taking short-cuts, and getting lost I learned what I’d known all along That even if you can’t put faith in those Who you meet, and lose, and love, and hug Over-all, you just can't give up Believing in your friends And just by being there, you've woken me Just by being who you’d always be Now I see, you helped me to know The stronger, happier me Because Like a gentle breeze, through the grass and the pine trees You always wore a smile Now we, who shared our Smiles and Tears... ...I miss you... We two are now far apart...

It reminds me more of Imagine if I'm honest...
actually, it samples Mind Games by john lennon and the plastic ufo band, but still fitting

most definitely.

This track uses Mellotron, which was used in the Beatles song, Strawberry Fields Forever, and the Aerosmith song, Dream On

I love the kinda low-fi sound this version has going on. It kinda fits the nostalgic feel that the Mother series has going on.

There's many things that I still want to see
Now I take my backpack to the world
and fill it with memories
My favorite base-ball cap rests on my head
My worn out sneakers, faded white and red
My own guitar pick, shiny and clear
Safe in my pocket, right here
Though sometimes I got sad and almost cried
You were right there with me, by my side
I knew we were friends to the core
But maybe it was something more
Together we walked that road for so long
We laughed, we played, we got hurt, we grew strong
When taking short-cuts, and getting lost
I learned what I’d known all along
That even if you can’t put faith in those
Who you meet, and lose, and love, and hug
Over-all, you just can't give up
Believing in your friends
And just by being there, you've woken me
Just by being who you’d always be
Now I see, you helped me to know
The stronger, happier me
Because
Like a gentle breeze, through the grass and the pine trees
You always wore a smile
Now we, who shared our Smiles and Tears...
