Jind was a Sikh Princely State of Phulkian Misl, one of the 12 misls of Sikhs. It was one of the cis-Sutlej states. The ruler of Jind, Gajpat Singh was the maternal grandfather of Sher-e-Punjab Maharaja Ranjit Singh. Being a Sikh, the rulers of Jind also had their allegiance to other religions. The famous Bhuteshwar Mandir at centre of Jind was constructed by them. Even some Mosques were built by them in different villages. This Safidon Fort has been used as Police Station by the administration.
