I have a 1961 log home and the inside logs are filthy. What product and how do I clean these. And older man didn't take care of it well. Please help. Of all the video's I've watched, you touch on the inside cleaning.

I have a log house from two 100 year old barns. Only stained it 25 years ago and again three years ago. That is it!

My log home was built in the 40's. I need maintenance on it. First can I have my log home re-leveled?

Well done Gentlemen.... I do have one question.
Have you seen long term proof that a Darker Stain/treatment stems off checking and or Shrinkage? I have had a few in the "business" tell me Darker Stain is a Better Protectant..... Any thoughts?

So. the 'Log wash' is NOT the Borate treatment? What did we miss here?

    • @SatterwhiteLogHomes
      @SatterwhiteLogHomes  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Two separate things. Log Wash is a cleaning agent, borate is an anti-insect agent. Back in the day, bleach was commonly used as a cleaning agent, but there were lots of problems. It was easy to get the dilution wrong, and the consequences were ugly. Also, bleach is not friendly to surrounding landscaping when the logs are rinsed off. Annual cleaning is a good idea. It freshens up the look of your home, just like washing your car improves its looks. But even on brand new construction and factory fresh logs, we recommend using Log Wash before applying coatings. That's because it removes dirt and mold spores that may be present from warehouse storage, transport, and jobsite. Using Log Wash removes these and prevents them from being sealed to the wood by the coating system. Borate treatments, on the other hand, are optional. Most of the homes we have built do not use borates, including those of most of our employees. Your choice if you think they have benefit in your area. Here's a link to the Perma-Chink website where you can learn more about borates.

Could use some advice. We have a half log siding home.
Only have used Sikkens on our home. Now when we put the stain on to maintain now it’s starting to just flake off. We wanting to know if we need to strip all coats of sealant off and start a new. Thank for your help

Yes. If the stain is peeling off it is too late for maintenance coat and you should hire a professional to strip the logs back to their colour when new. I have been stripping log homes and exterior wood in the Ottawa/Gatineau area for 18 years now. Strip the logs with media or proper pressure washing techniques letting the stripper do the work. Make sure you use a brightener to balance the ph because the stripper darkens the wood. Make sure to give it a good sanding, removing any dead wood and fuzz from stripping then when you stain, 2 coats even 3 doesnt hurt and key to maintaining is a light mold and mildew wash every few years with another coat of stain on unprotected south facing sides. If you have any questions just ask!

Some good info but the gentlemen on the left seems a bit lost and the gentlemen off stage seems to have all the answers. Possibly he should be in the video as well.
A few things that stand out to me is when the log repair took place. They set the new log into position and then gave it a good wack with another log and immediately dented the replacement log. Why was a beater block not used?
At the 14 min mark they're spraying the stain and no one is using respirators! Are you kidding?
Then right after that the guy brushing the log ends was completely missing all the runs.
I sure wouldn't want this crew working on my house. I hope these guys don't work for Satterwhite. Either way, that doesn't project a good image for your company.

Does anyone else have issues with interior dust?
Could very well just be my duct work needed a clean out bit checking to see if any abundance of dust is common issue for log homes?

I am a second hand Satterwhite home owner here, this video had good potential but the guy off mic needs to be doing the video for sure. I don’t feel like I learned anything about long term maintenance.

Show a video of a thorough stain removal and application by a real applicator who explains things as they are doing it. You two are knowledable but a very poor presentation. Sorry, but true---
