I thought he was gonna slam him down and (in my head) since gravity is on his side, (knife was pointing towards his opponent) the blade would've went in, right? But, I don't know. I've never seen this movie before, I don't really know what hand lock they were in, and I am no martial arts expert.

Probably very late to leave a reply, but from what I could see, our hero redirects the knife before he hits the ground.
