    i just finished brotherhood and all i can remember is renovating shops. it almost felt like something you'd watch on discovery channel, except somehow filmed during the renaissance.
    "my name is ezio auditore, i learned my trade in florence and now i'm here in rome to show these people how we do business. stay tuned for... The Renovators!"

    One thing I truly hate is that it lets you play as Haytham at the beginning. He's just so interesting that when you get to play as Connor he becomes even more bland then he already is, the whole time I just wanted to play as Haytham again through the whole thing which is not a good thing where you want to play as a different character even more then the main one.

    I love how in every game since Brotherhood you can pretty much gather masses of money and yet be the one without any influence. After buying out nearly the entirety of Rome from bankruptcy, the Vatican and Papal army is still somehow relevant...
    Same thing here, you end up with insane amounts of money and apparently can't spend it to buy people off.

    Assassins Creed was pretty tedious for me (my game refused to point out where to go so after scaling every fucking building to synchronize I was forced to wander about until I bumped into my interrogation mission or a templar) but the characters, plot, and setting were what kept me playing. I loved Malik and Kadar who barely got any screentime. Everything, everyone, every line felt important, but in AC3 there's very few things that feel dire and necessary- even when it actually is.

    Finally, someone that thinks Assassin's Creed needs more 'assassin'.
    One thing I've said a few times now to various people, is that I think Assassin's Creed needs more stealth and actual assassinations. Even in AC1, you barely relied on stealth. A lot of times you even COULDN'T rely on stealth, because the person you need to kill is surrounded by people. For a game called "Assassin's" Creed, you'd think there would be more stealthy assassinations.
    The argument I always get is "Oh, it's not actually a stealth game, it's an action game." Well why call it assassin's creed them? Call it Murderer's Creed. Stabby McCreed, anything other than ASSASSIN's Creed. Assassin implies stealthy assassinations. While Assassinations don't necessarily have to be stealthy, it's 'implied'. Most people that first heard mention of AC before it was fully revealed, probably thought the same thing. Silent stealthy assassination game. Instead, you tend to go running into groups of enemies, stabbing and dodging everything that moves. Then when you're a bit too wanted, you can barely even play right because you're busy hiding on rooftops doing nothing.
    Even Dishonored had more stealthy assassinations than ASSASSIN's Creed. And it's just getting worse and worse as the games go on. At least in AC1 you were assassinating people, and at least maybe possibly once, you had the choice to be stealthy. Everything after that just turned into 'Attack > Dodge > Attack > Dodge', on every group of enemies you come across. And then a running away mission when you get remotely close to the target...IF there's even a target.

    • @nonsansdroit3800
      @nonsansdroit3800 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This comment is 8 years old so my apologies if you already figured this out by now but the Assassin Order you're a part of in AC1 operates on the basis of recklessly diving into danger to kill the target and then dropping dead. The fact that you keep doing that and not dying is what makes you the protagonist.

      The Skull Kid

    • @skullkid325
      @skullkid325 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Blackemperess That's understandable. I actually have sort of an interest in that time period (the setting of the first game) so for the story and setting that was definitely my favourite. I didn't love the second one but it was still good. I think it should have stopped there, rather than taken the path it has.

    • @Blackemperess
      @Blackemperess 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Skull Kid
      Oh I didn't hate the first game, I just found the color quite offputting, whereas in AC2 the variations made me pay closer attention to the environments and architecture.
      I am baffled by their seeming reluctance to take the game to any other time period in the east where I think the setting would be well suited.

    Hm. The biggest problem i ever had with Assassins creed 3 was that i didn't agree with the main character (Connor). At first i was pretty neutral to how he behaved. "Getting revenge for your tribe that was slaughtered?" Fine by me.
    But when the game got into the later stages with the involvement of politics and the british and whatnot, i started really disliking him. As i remember someone saying: "He wants what all children wants, total freedom without any responsibility." That's pretty much what i felt about him.

  • @jaggerra7
    @jaggerra7 7 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    I actually would have liked Assassin's Creed 3 if the game focused on the father-son relationship between Haytham and Connor. Those two interacting and trying to work together was the only bit of humor and sass in the whole game and it was great and super entertaining to me, but criminally short. Also, after getting to play as Haytham, having to play as Connor was extra painful. Haytham was interesting and had a sense of humor and charm about him, but that made Connor all the more mind-numbingly dull and dour.

    Favorite parts of this entire game:
    1. Watching the homestead grow bit by Actraiser/Soul Blazer reminiscent bit
    2. Actual side quests like the Frontiersmen and Hunters, instead of the same old 'race this guy, beat up that guy' stuff
    3. Naval combat
    Bring these back in your next project, Ubisoft. But this time, with the 'homestead' thing, don't make very few actually usable items. Let people fully customize furniture, rooms, etc. in their home, even make their own furniture for home use.

      DarthVaizard I reckon I played the game pretty similarly, and I found AC1 to be far better at being an AC game than anything from AC brotherhood
      onward (Yes, that includes Black Flag which was not a fun jumpy climby stabby game, but a pirate game horribly mis-sold). It was a dumb game (AC3, that is) and not even dumb in the funny way: just tedious.

      They really need to take a break from the annualization and just make a game about being an assassin with some serious polish. I'm sure if they were determined enough, they could out do AC2. Jon Baxter Oh God I loved that Haytham was so involved in AC Rogue but I'd love a game where you play as him; sorta describing his journey from Templar to the Grand Master, because he was my favourite character in the series apart from Ezio. It could sort of be an AC Brotherhood for Haytham.

    Shame that Connor gets shit on so much, I fancied him as one of the more interesting protagonists in the AC series. Edward and Ezio are basically the same person, just centuries apart and sporting a different accent and Altair is halfway to being a mute, which is ok. Connor brought some needed depth to the struggle of being an Assassin, and while I understand that a quiet and stoic hero isn't every ones cup of tea, they should likewise understand that other people will like him. I do wish we could have fallowed his story a bit more and I did love the setting, equal parts nature and city which brought back memories of the Kingdom from AC1. Sitting on a tree branch as a patrol came within pouncing distance, stringing up their captain and barreling into the rest with tomahawk and dagger in hand was really fun.

    We redefine things all the time. The definition of getting a message to someone else used to be word of mouth. Then cave drawing, messengers, written text with messengers, eventually Morse Code followed by the radio, then phones, and now the internet in it's many sub-forms. What used to be insane to fathom is now commonplace.
    Just like how a game with no cutscenes, no breaks, no vocalization of the character can still be an enveloping and deep experience. Like what Half-Life did.

    Ass Cream 3 was the worst of the Ass Cream games and one of the reasons why it's so bad is the fact that Haytham could have turned into a good guy in the game but instead the "plot" or lack thereof chose to turn him back into generic bad boss number 23 from the generic bad guy boss collection out of the ass dimension. The whole time I was rooting for Haytham to become an assassin again but then have his boring son get killed off by other Templars so you spend the rest of the game as Haytham the more interesting character trying to get revenge or whatever which would have made this game so much better then what it was.

    • @DragonWorldProducts
      @DragonWorldProducts 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      But no the Developers were like "our audience couldn't possibly handle such a plot lets just keep it simple so that the toddlers don't fry their brains over such a concept." and therefore haytham is a bad guy and always will be with no redemption whatsoever lets keep him evil let's not go with the concept of bad guys can turn good but good guys can turn bad which is apparently what ass cream roulette rouge squadron piss yellow game is going to be touching soon.

    • @DragonWorldProducts

      ***** honestly that also can be fixed by simply saying "the trail goes cold with this ancestor... First off why is it always Desmond's ancestors that find the damn thing? Why not one of the other two members of the modern assassins or maybe a Templar and have the modern assassins kidnap that Templar the same way the Templar kidnapped Desmond? Why can't the game have a more complex story that involves more then one persons ancestors finding the pieces of eden? Like Desmond is just too lame of a character to have him be the driving point of the narrative of having to dive into dead Desmond's head (spoilers) Like not even the other two care about what happend to the body of Desmond.. When Desmond died (again spoilers) he should have immediately went to irrelevant status and cremated or whatever. And plus the Dad is still fucking alive...

    I'll tell you from my perspective, I've been playing them since the release of the original. I played them for the assassinations, but even more so the plot. I was intrigued with the incredibly detailed plot & the settings around it, particularly in Assassins Creed II. It's difficult to explain unless you actually play it yourself, although I recommend just skipping to AC2 at this point. If there is a major selling point, the soundtrack is absolutely phenomenal.

      I liked it. I know it's one of the less popular installments of the series but I thought it was a really good character piece exploring Conor learning to equate the ideologies he's been taught to value with the real world situations he finds himself. The whole story is about him learning about realism and losing his naivety, which doesn't fully happen until the end of the story when his tribe's land gets sold and that coupled with the still present slavery, he learns that freedom is conditional to being a certain type of person and the fight is far from over.

  • @nizzepower

    One of the worst and most boring games i've ever played. Ugh. Assassin's Creed (the first) stills stands as the best in the series by far, it at least, had an idea, a vision and a goal. You got your target, you went there and actually had to do some un-linear planning. Sure it wasn't deep, but you had some choice, same thing with the assassinations, it wasn't stealthy, it wasn't deep or fleshed out, but you still had your choice in the matter. The later games makes the assassinations linear bore-fests where you do nothing and by AC III, the assassin-element is gone. They only thing that make me love Ezio-trilogy is Ezio as a character, he is interserting enough and his story is good enough for me to play through his games, but even they, compared to AC I is lackluster when it comes to the assassinations. Ubisoft ruined what could be a cool concept by having to many ideas. Since when do we need freaking naval-battles in a games about assassinations? The most overrated and overhyped game-series of all time, Call of Duty does at least stick to it's core, even if it's boring and overdone these days.

    And still Connor would never have any doubts in the people whose butts he saved over and over again, even when Haytham threw a few funny facts straight into his face, only because he picked to help those who had seemed nicer to him. Plus, his only motivation to even join the Assassin order was because a glowing woman told him to do so and he believed that this "Goddess" would save his people. I think Assassins Creed 3 should have been a stand alone Desmond story. To see him use the skills from 2 badass assassins in the 3rd game would have been cool, also they could have implemented some cool elements making desmonds story cooler. Like a sandbox game where you climb sky scrapers, and use up to date parachutes to land, or use a mariache band to sneak past places. I like Connors story but I think it would have been smarter to start the Kenway saga after Desmond had his stand alone.
