- High pitch noise from the rear electric motor when accelerating, sounds terrible. At approx 1:15 it starts, I accelerate from 40 to 65 mph. The ride also has constant micro vibrations. This was in an almost brand new Model Y (less than 100 miles).
I could feel the high pitch noise in my teeth!
Road noise is pretty bad compared to other vehicles I've driven.
The sound is not normal when it hurts your ears. Absolutely not normal in cruise mode. When accelerating - yes, but in cruise speeds, it should be quiet.
I think the whine is only abnormal when you aren’t accelerating but maintaining the same speed. On some clips out there the affected cars made that persistent whine while maintaining the same speed
Noises affect people differently. Children will be bothered by it more, especially if I’m rear. Dog in trunk may be tortuous for them… 😬. Noticed this recently with a test drive of MY LR. My AWD VW ID4 has absolutely no rear motor noise, so I noticed it right away. Reminds me of kids’ toy w a defect - we couldn’t hear it, but a high frequency buzz was hurting the wife’s head from across the house - silent to me
I tried two different demo cars from a Tesla store, and heard the exact same sound. Extremely high frequency whining sound when accelerating and releasing the pedal again. Especially at around 70-80 km/h.
The dealer could not confirm that this was unusual or normal.. I found the sound terrible, and will not buy if that is normal.
It sounded like an old computer monitor x10 or like sliding a finger on the top of a wine glass..
I guess if you are 60+ years old or partied a lot when young you won’t hear it because of the high frequency… but kids and young people will definitely!
I dont hear anything except when you accelerate which the whine is normal.
How is the sound today, Johan? Is it any better? I have this issue as well in my LR Model 3.

I have the same exact issue on my 4 week old 2023 MYLR!
Me too. I took it to the service center twice and they said it’s normal.
I get my rear drive unit replaced. If the noise is too loud or painful its gonna be replaced. They made a soundfile of it. 30min later an engineer of Tesla confirmed it is too loud and they replace it
When u can't hear it with low volume music on it is fine.
What did you do. did service change motors

yup..find with me. alternative is to hear engine and exhaust
honestly it’s not that bad. mine makes a similar sound while resting. took it to two service centers and they said it’s normal :/

It's less noticeable now a few months later for whatever reason.
@@JohansGrandBanksSaabEtc I have the same issue, but in my car, its REALLY loud! I mean, REALLY loud. Brand new Model 3, 2022 Long Range (Made in China). Service appointment in 3 weeks. Hopefully they sort it out, and dampen the sound or whatever they can do. Its really loud. Can even hear it over loud radio.
@@edwinklift my model3 is also producing that noise when speeds are in the interval of 20 to 40 MPH.
@@edwinklift please keep us informed on what they do. im having same issue its really bad on your ears, i had a model 3 prior and no other tesla i have driven makes this noise.I took it to service shortly after delivery and they agreed the noise was loud and RE-sealed the Penthouse seal. not sure what that meant since the advisor claimed that the tech was the one who performed the work. the noise went down slightly but I still have it
