I have to agree that there is something kind of cute about the Ladybird books. And I’d even say something very warm and endearing about them. Especially so the ones produced in the 60’s and early 70’s. We had them at primary school in the rack of books that were in the corridor if I remember correctly. And yet I find it amazing how much information they could get into their little books and the attention to detail etc and at the same time being concise and efficient. It’s quite a feat to pull that off with such style and such beautiful illustrations and artwork etc. This flags book is a real gem. And I’ve had a real fascination and an appreciation of the many and sometimes almost surreal / verging on the ridiculous through to real less is more stylish ones and many that have fascinating stories behind them as comes over in your video. And you mentioned 2 of my particular favourites. Which are Chile and my actual favourite flag Canada. I used to really love the American flag as a kid. But now not so much. Which is a real indicator of my feelings about what that flag is meant to stand for bin the context of the last 5 years or so. Flags have a real power about them in some cases and some of the symbolism on them is very clever regards a kind of psychology about them. This was a real treat. Thank you and hope you’re good.’x
Yeah, I have nostalgic feelings about these cute Ladybird books too and also remember them in my primary school library, all stacked up on a wooden shelf!
If there's any indication as to how old this book is, it's the inclusion of "Ceylon". I actually had to Google when that become Sri Lanka, and that gave me a hint. The book is in surprisingly good shape, considering it's 53 years old...

Though it is kind of a hassle to get them over here in the Netherlands and especially those 2 books. I do not have the original version ofc but I’m happy to get them in the mail soon. I might look into finding some for my children! My girls are 4 & 9. Sadly mine are definitely long gone as I’m 42 & my stepdad threw a lot of my childhood things into a skip many years ago 😔
