Just to clarify a few things mentioned in the video.
Gen1 cars only came with the 3 pin granny cable.
Gen2 24kw 3.3 volt charger only came with 3 pin granny cable.
Gen 2 24kw 6.6 volt charger only initially only came with the type2 cable, no 3 pin!
After customer complaints (aka feedback) Nissan added the 3 pin granny cable so later 24kw 6.6 cars should have both, however the dealer had to order the 3 pin cable from Nissan via the Parts Dept and claim the money back from Nissan so there will be cars out there that should have had both cables but will only have one. Too late now, you'll have to buy it.
All 30kw cars came with both 3 pin granny and type 2 cables.
Cost to buy a Genuine Nissan 3 pin granny cable is circa £550.00, you can only buy it with the bag! Gen Nissan type 2 cable can be bought with or without a storage bag, from memory without the bag its about £280.00
Sat Nav Cards.... Visia Sat Nav systems are different to Acenta and Tekna models, their are no telematics on the Visia for remote heating etc.. New card is about £150.00.
Acenta and Tekna Sat Nav systems use a SD card which will only work in the car it's supplied for as they are coded to the car chassis number! Do not buy one off eBay your wasting your money, Make sure its with the car!!!!! To buy a replacement is £179, they used to be over £500 so beware..
Otherwise great video EVman although not as funny as washing and driving the Twizzy.
Your daughters comment in the wash video was priceless.
BTW, I have a 64 reg Leaf 24, 70k on the clock with 12 bars, trickle charged overnight and rapid charged from about 40% to 90% most days. Have been really impressed with the car.
Edited to correct price of SD Card

Were the 24 and 30 sold side-by-side through 2015/2016? Is there a point when all Acenta and Tekna cars were 30Kwh? Thanks

The very easiest way to tell the difference between a 2011-2012 Gen 1 and a >2013 Gen 1.1 (not Gen 2) is to open the tailgate. The Gen 1 has a raised bar between the wheel arches; where as the Gen 1.1 doesn't have this raised bar and shows the shape of the wheel arches.

When I got my used Leaf last year I specifically looked for a 2012 SL (top trim level here in the USA) that also still had some battery warranty left. I found one in amazing shape that was late off the lot (sold November '12) and still had almost 10k miles left for the battery warranty. It was also 3 capacity bars down, perfect for my plans. So, from January to April that year I used a rapid charger 2-3 times a week and then it happened, it lost the 4th capacity bar. I immediately took it to Nissan Motors and they warranty replaced the battery, no cost to me! So now over a year later and almost another 20k miles as well I still have all 12 capacity bars.
    BTW comment #69 lol

    • @chesspro22k64
      @chesspro22k64 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Mark Lawrence This was my plan thinking to do with the 2016 leaf. 2016 has 106 miles range, I’m hoping to find a leaf with a battery that’s rapidly losing range so I can get a new one soon. Also driving hard to reduce range so that I would have to fast charge more often is also a good plan. As well as fast charging multiple times a day to over heat the battery, stupid move by Nissan not to have any battery cooling.
Let’s all get some free batteries so they can learn from and FIX their mistakes and finally put active cooling in, like everyone else does.

Hi Andy thanks for the interesting video. When I bought my 24kwh LEAF in 2014 the standard 3.3Kw were coming with the granny charger and the ones with the 6.6 option with a different lead, I was a bit ignorant at the time but I now assume that that was a type 1 to type 2 lead. I don't think that I was ripped off as these details were in the presale documentation I was given. Perhaps different dealers we're doing it differently. I did subsequently buy my own type 1 to type 2 lead as they're pretty much essential.

The three pin plug charge came with both my used 24kwh and new 30kwh leaf both had a 3.3kwh charger. The type two charging lead appeared to come as standard but not all have that lead as standard. My 2014 used 24kwh leaf didn't come with the type two charging lead as standard, but it did come with the 3 pin plug charger. When I brought my 24kwh used leaf, I had to change carwings over to my account. This was easily done by contacting Nissan direct and emailing them upon request, proof of purchase. The dealership I brought it from did not get involved. The point you made about changing the carwings account from the previous owner is a good one to make as small car sales won't advise customer to do this.

I live near Toronto Canada, and purchased a 2016 Leaf SL new in August of that year. The car is approaching 24,000 km (14,900 miles), and the battery’s state of health is reported by Leaf Spy as 90.77% after less than two years. I will mention it at the upcoming warranty battery inspection so the concern is on record.

Great work Andy, you know its utterly bizarre why such a "technological" company and "hugely expensive" vehicles which is tesla does not have a heat pump. Forgetting about the extra range of their batteries it's not exactly environmentally correct for a sole bev manufacturer to have to consume far more energy than our hunble leafs? Cheers

Cool new opening sting. ...Brilliant video actually. Loads of detail and specific information for new buyers. Really impressive. Well researched. ...I'm still pondering what option to go for. For me my biggest concern is this... I can't afford to buy new cars every 3 years like some people. I would buy a car and keep it for 7 or 8. And I do 16,000ish miles per year. So although a 30kwh battery will do 110 miles in summer when new, what will it do after year 8 in the middle of winter?

    • @waynerussell6401
      @waynerussell6401 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Less than 60 miles, on average. insideevs.com/battery-capacity-loss-chart-2016-30-kwh-nissan-leaf/
The warranty steps in at 66% of original capacity and under 8 years or 100 000 miles (6.25 years of your use).
This compares very unfavourably with a typical cheap ICE, and compared to a Tesla battery, a very expensive choice!
For a slightly higher price (or similar if you take the probable price of the 60kWh 2019 Leaf), a Model 3 will do over 500 000 miles at less than 20% degradation. Real use reports are Tesla LiIon typically degrades quite quickly in the first 50 000 miles by about 5%, thereafter very slowly at a constant 1% per 50 000 miles, meaning it will outlast the car.
The cheaper car gives you an initial lower sticker price but a very high cost in use price. The data shows, Nissan do have a problem with their battery chemistry and indications are that the 30Kwh battery is worse than the 24kwh. Both packs are the same size but the 30kWh is denser and cannot cool as quickly. The 40kWh is denser still...
With the current rate of production of 20 Model 3 cars per 30 mins and after May 26th stoppage, 25 per 30 mins, it should not be too long before RHD! (Musk tweet).

Thanks for the informative video. But just got your reference, the proper term for the "hand brake" what the emergency brake, or also parking brake. That would make known if the same thing, whether it's operated by your hand, or by your foot. And I believe there's a solar panel on the spoiler which also trickle charges the 12 volt battery.

Bravo. I wish you'd made this video before November 2017 when I investigated and bought a 2015 24kWh Acenta. Now, in July 2018, I have gone back to my dealer and exchanged it for a 2016 30kWh Tekna, the car I should have bought originally. The greater range, the 6kWh on-board charger and the superior comfort of the leather interior is to die for. Thats not to say the 24kWh is no good - but it didn't fit my use profile and I only found that out after a period of using it. I think this video would have perhaps made me ask more questions of the dealership (excellent people) and myself before buying.

I am thinking about buying the 30 kWh leaf and i quite concerned about the charging stations. I been told you have to buy cards which cost so much a year. I wouldn't get too worked up about battery degradation, as my 2016 30kWh Leaf, with 25k hard So. California miles, and with over 300 fast charges, has 26.5 kWh useable still remaining (LeafSpy Pro). That represents around 5% degradation over 20 months of driving, and a car with a build date of Oct/2015. Figure about 3% degradation annually (+ or - about 1/2%)

The last piece of advice is probably the best. Go to a Nissan dealership to get a full battery health check up for £90. Spending £90 can save you a ton of misery down the road. I just checked and in my area a remanufactured (not new) Leaf 24kWh battery costs around £4,700 or about $6,000. Even the cable and card can be purchased on Amazon. Not the main battery.

Great video! Would be really nice if you could add comments to the video stating km when you tell the miles that car can go.

Hi. Can you answer a question? Just bought a 2014 leaf and not sure what I should expect from mileage. Drove it back from the garage , 6 miles, and its dropped 20 miles from a full charge of 79 miles! I am new and don't know if I should panic and return it within my 7 day grace period. I have ordered an OBDII and will start monitoring, but just wondered what your thoughts might be. It has done 31500 miles. Thank you!! Great channel by the way!!

Hello, living here in Oregon, the weather and affect electric vehicles immensely. Talked with a guy the other day: his Leaf, which is five years old, only has 50% of its battery left. He did admit that he bought it from his son, who "lived in Alaska and drove it hard". Still, such stories give me pause.

Same in Colorado. Still seems to make sense to get a '12 Honda Civic getting 30/45mpg for $9k and paying for the low maintenance costs vs getting a '13 Leaf for $9k and having to buy a new battery at $3-4k of the vehicle in 4-5 years (at best).

Also, I'm thinking maybe a scooter would be a solution in Denver. Only drawback is winter driving, but I work from home.

Hey, I’m looking at a Nissan Leaf e tekna 2016 with a dealership but they don’t have much on the list of features! Is it true that the tekna comes with all mods from heated seats to 360 cameras for parking and the fast charge (6.6kw you mentioned)? Thanks, this video was amazing.
