Hi iam lumix user i had buy it last month and gratefully I have good choice on it. you miss one point of prores recoding that help me to deliver a good quality than normal mov.
Loyal Lumix user here! Started GH4 to GH5 to S5 and now ordering the S5IIX because I’m a one man band and LOVE the flexibility. Lumix has the best video options, video assist tools, and in my opinion, the best color. Love my Lumix kit.
You will not be disappointed with the S5IIX! Having bought one recently its been a real game changer for me with the responsive auto focus and 6k open gate especially. The amount of clients that say "can we have a horizontal and vertical version" it just means you can get a lot more of that shot back being resized from horizontal to vertical. 🔥 Panasonic have finally stepped up!
Best camera I’ve ever had hands down. Love everything about it and it’s such a steal for the price comparing it to some of the others in its price point.
Actually, the GH5 can do open gate as well. I'm still using the GH5 and I don't see why would I swap to anything in the near future. Maybe to a GH8 or a G9 mark IV or something :).
Bought one coming out of film school and immediately have been putting it to work in weddings and luxury real estate videos. My favorite features are the ssd recording for cheap media and 6k open gate.
Probably my next camera for hybrid video and photography work. Will pair it up with a few sigma art lenses and im good to go. There's nothing that beats this thing at this price point
Every single S5 including the OG does 6K Open Gate (S5, S5II and S5IIX). Panasonic hid it on the OG S5, likely because it was a standout feature for the S1/S1H. Change your mode to "M", set your selected burst mode (I use II) to 6K S/S and you can select both aspect ratio's 3:2 and 4:3 in the camera menu. 3:2 - 5183x3456 and 4:3 - 4992x3744 and it includes audio at 200Mbps, but are limited to 15 minutes per recording. Set the Photo Style to V-Log and you can record "open gate" on the OG S5 in V-Log. Just stage your shots at 15 minute increments and you are good to go! Great for Anamorphic!
If you wanted to buy a camera now and were stuck between that Sony and this Lumix, which one would you choose and why (besides the Opengate)? I'm in this situation right now.
@@jampaPT Well I have only tested the Sony a7 IV, so cannot give it a fair comparison. But I am super happy with my Sony a7 IV. Love your thumbnail very creative. Gh5 user here. Getting the S52x. Gh5 can also shoot 6k 4:3. Use animorohic mode. The only way I shoot. Super flexible!
I came from the Panasonic GH5 which in my eyes was a disappointment. The autofocus system struggled constantly. I always heard people talking about full frame and AI dual pixel autofocus. So I needed to test it out and I got a Canon R5C with glass that cost as much as the s5ii. I can say having a reliable focus system is amazing. Also good glass cannot be understated as it pertains to impressive video and portraits. That being said the s52 would have been a better bet for me if I bought two of them. My business would be making more money. I still use my GH5 and love it. It just made my life very difficult in my content more aggravating to make. I spent less time improving and more time chasing problems.
I'm still rock'n my GH5. Love what Panasonic does with their cameras, and adding a good AF in the S5IIX put this on the top of my one man band camera wish list. On a budget that is. My dream would be the Ronin 4D. But with the workflow I'm used to with the GH5, I would probably have the S5IIX first.
For hybrid shooters, the Lumix S5-II X is a no brainer. Canons competitor (the EOS R6 Mk II) can handle 4k60 uncropped, but beyond that, the S5-II X wins on any other specification.

Beautiful stuff, did you protect anyhow camera from the sand in the first cinematic desert sequence or it's not needed as it''s weather sealed? Also did you shoot it in HD 120 FPS?
Thinking about switching from my Sony A7siii. Kinda just want something new and the 6k open gate looks awesome. Looks like Image stabilization is better too. Lens options are a bit limiting with the aperture options. I currently use the 16-35mm f2.8 sony gmii, 20-70mm f4 sony, and 28-200 f2.8-5.6 tamron. I'm a real estate, VRBO, Ranch, and Vineyard photographer/videographer. Worth the switch and maybe going with the 14-28, 20-60, 28-200 f4-f7.1? just not many low aperture zooms, or consistent zoom options.
3:00 v-log is good but.... also natural or flat have super realistic colours and still ready for small grading. best in small project with low scene and bad lighting. still u can get niice colours.
I chose the ZV-E1 over this for 3 simply reasons: stabe, image processing and autofocus. By having captured data and dynamic active stabe, it is literally the difference between being able to use the camera anywhere and everywhere, and needing tripods/gimbals, it's game changing. The image processing works hand in hand here, on the S5IIX you get corner wobbling and image warping with wide lenses, it makes such shots unusable. Finally autofocus is telepathic, the S5IIX autofocus is a HUGE improvement for Panasonic but the ZV-E1 predicts where a person will be and pre-focuses there, it allows you to register a face to prioritise that specific person for autofocus, it's next level. But yes, the S5IIX kills the ZV-E1 in a studio environment and photography. I really wish there was open gate, I wish there was a mechanical shutter, I wish there were more megapixels for photos, etc which the S5IIX has :) - it's a tough choice, but if you need the flexibility for hand held wide shots with movement, the S5IIX ain't it.
Fair point about corner wobbling, but unless you're whipping back and forth for sports at a very wide angle or vlogging with our arm outstretched climbing up a mountain with shaky hands, it's barely ever an issue. Autofocus is fantastic on it, never had any worries, don't really see that as a deciding factor. Then there's a lot of problems with the ZV-E1: overheating, only one card slot, no EVF, limited ability to crop in on photos with low megapixels, micro HDMI.
@@Blackbereh Just walking with the camera trying to make a travel video, I found the wobbling unusable and it wasn't correctable in post. So it killed it for me as a general purpose travel camera. Between that and not being able to get hand held stable footage at all (warp stabiliser is not in the same universe vs catalyst or active dynamic), it was just not usable for me - it can't even collect motion data to correct in post. The image processing just isn't there either, it makes things worse by warping the image with wider lenses. I appreciate not many are using a full frame mirrorless for their travel vlog :) Other disadvantages: no 4k120, awful rolling shutter (25ms vs 5ms), poor low light performance, it's much bigger/heavier, can't use it as a USB camera (I did 6+ hour 4k30 streams with the ZV-E1 with just 1 USB-C cable for video/power), etc. On the ZV-E1 I can also have it going to an external recorder and use my iPad as a monitor over wifi and have full focus and zoom control, that's really handy, not sure the S5IIX has that. The autofocus is also a consideration, it just isn't there for bird or animal eye, for people it struggles in low light or if the person is small in the frame, if a person is temporarily obstructed it hunts, it can't predict body language and other really nifty things the AI chip from the A7R V does on the ZV-E1 - it really is something incredible to experience, I can never go back to a camera without this. I mean it all depends on what you want, most expensive cinema cameras have no stabe, no autofocus, no LCD at all, but for me the ZV-E1 is that perfect combo of incredible dynamic range and allround performance from the A7S III sensor coupled with the processor from the A7R V, in the body of an A7C, that's an unbelievable achievement - I'm just so inspired by this camera. I agree about the disadvantages (overheating is overblown though, it's not an issue in most cases, no overheating at 4k30, open the battery door if you are doing 4k60 takes longer than 1 hour and you're fine), there are definitely major pros for the S5 II as a studio camera or on a gimbal/tripod - you know, if you're not doing slowmo, low light, hand held, etc. The S5II X is a better camera for the professional that will be bringing gimbals, recording raw externally, cropping the open gate footage, rigging it out, bringing COB lights and soft boxes, etc to use on professional shoots. The ZV-E1 is a better camera for the creator that wants to get FX3 like quality on the go, in as lightweight package as possible to use daily in all situations, including wildlife (with slowmo), low light, handheld, etc.
OKAY!!! I have the S5IIX and have a 2 part technical question. Everyone is raving about open gate, but it’s 10bit 4:2:0. How much is actually being lost with it not being 4:2:2? Also, can you still shoot RAW in open gate using the BlackMagic video assist, or is that restricted to the 4K resolutions? Thank you! Great video!
Not much quality tbh! My entire channel is about making content with Lumix cameras and I have been doing it for a few years now. But with BRAW you don't get open gate I believe, but with the Atomos Ninja I believe you can get open gate
RAW is a direct sensor readout. The Lumix S5-II X can either do RAW 5.9k in 16:9 or APS-C cropped in 4.1k 17:9 and 3.5k 4:3 Open Gate. So open gate is possible, just not in full frame. This is the same for BRAW on BMD VideoAssist and Atomos Ninja V/V+.
People worry too much about 420 vs 422. The only time you really need 422 is if you're green screening. 420 is still a great codec. As long as it's 10-bit. 8-bit 420 is what people seem to think 420 is. 10-bit 420 is still plenty fine. As a colorist, I've been able to push 420 footage hard
WOW Really? I didn't know that. Like Open Gate Pro Res? I love open gate but I wish I could shoot it on something that is not LonGOP 4220@@MatthewDangyou
Thinking to buy this one to replace my BMPCC 4K in the future, looks like everything I need. The only downside is that I have to switch from EF lenses (which I already have) but tbh looks like it is well worth the effort!
coming as well from a GH5 i realized that I became an IBIS snob. I decided to switch to canon R5 and C70 This year and really miss high quallity IBIS... now i always need to make sure im carrying a gimble whereas with the GH5 i had CRISPY hand hand held stuff... SO watching this video, i was hoping that this new panasonic would have outstanding ibis on a fullframe camera cause i believe that IBIS is where the money is at. less headache when going to clients , less equipment to worry about to get smooth shots. sometimes i even leave my R5 and C70 at home and pull out the GH5 cause i just know... i dont need to pack as much and get "gimble like" shots handheld
No. As someone who has it, the AF system is GREAT with like 1 person or filming products. As soon as you add multiple people it hunts between them. Filming events/weddings has been a nightmare with this camera because unlike Sony and Canon you can't tap to lock focus on someone. I just end up hitting manual focus. I came from GH6/GH5/Pocket 4Ks (still have them all), and while the AF is stickier and doesn't hunt, it focuses on the wrong person a lot of the time even if you try zone or area AF. It's been incredibly annoying for events. That being said, for TH-cam, content creation, products, etc. It's phenomenal
Great review video 👍🏻 G’day from Western Australia 🇦🇺 I own two G7, two GH5 & one GH5II Cameras. If only there was a way to adapt all my expensive mf3 lenses to this mega S5IIX camera then I’d buy it in a heartbeat.
the best hybrid camera`? You probably haven't tested the Fuji Xh2-s :D But the Lumix is also a great camera, even if it doesn't quite come to the level of the Fuji!
I love this camera. Got it since May and can't imagine to work with different one. But I got a question. U mentions about client charge for 5500, hat is in the package ?
So 200 bitrate or mbps is good enough!? What is the point in shooting w 400 or 800 bitrate then? I assumed i needed raw or no less than 400 for a quality product. I been using gh6 hdmi 5.7k 60 and s5iix 4k60 raw as b cam. Im confused. Thank You
I really like your content and respect your work. But I honestly do not think you should call a sponsored and paid video by the brand you are promoting a "review". This is a feature roundup and in essence an advertisement. So calling it a "review" is misleading
He reviewed why they like it and use it in their business, and disclosed that they were being compensated. He runs a business not just a camera review channel, I’m glad he got paid, and that he did the review. In the nature of full disclosure I am just a hobbyist and bought my own S5IIX right after they were released. He’s spot on, on every point. Wonderful camera.
@@clintstuckey that's not my point. I get that creators need to get paid. And as a creator myself I am happy to see other creators get paid. There's a lot of work involved in making videos. But a "review" should not be a paid endorsement or advertisement. A "review" should never be paid and influenced by the brand that has paid the content. If the video hasn't been called and promoted as a review, then everything would have been fine IMHO.
been looking at a s5iix for a bit now, I have a Leica SL2 and SL2S, interested if this would be a bit easier for youtube and social work while also being L mount, looks like it might be perfect
Hey, love the channel I'm a 14yr old (my age) fitness creator. I was wondering if you could make a video about the best CANON camera for fitness creators.
I'm a big Lumix fan and this is so helpful because there are not a ton of videos on line for them. Does it automatically have V-log or is it an added feature you have to purchase. What lenses with you recommend to pair this camera with for video and photo?
The V-Log comes inside already. It looks really clean 🥴. And for lenses, the Lumix S Pro line is pricey but has the best autofocus and also has micro contrast that gives shots a 3D effect. The Sigma Art lenses are cheaper and don't have the micro contrast but are plenty fast with autofocus as well, and are a bit lighter. The 24-70mm f2.8 in both lineups are probably the most popular choices. The primes are amazing too though
The S prime 1.8 lenses are also amazing. 0 Focus breathing, fast enough and the image quality looks way more expensive than they are. I believe Lumix still has an insane saving of $400 per lens if you order them with the S5iix . The 85mm f1.8 is amazing for portraits. But the sigma 24-70mm is what I have on 80% of the time
Here is a question for you. That seems like a nice camera but what else can it do besides photo's and video? How easy is it to do sound or get stuff off the camera? Does it use common accessories or do you have to get specific things just for that?
It depends on your needs. If you want full compatibility then DJI RS3, if you only need a gimbal to support the camera, then a Feiyutech Scorp-C, or G6 Max would do.
Have some buyers remorse coming on strong. My s5iix arrives tomorrow and I’m just now realizing that there are no 4:3 or 3:2 / or any open gate modes that support 4:2:2 unless I’m mistaken. I shoot anamorphic 1.8x on my Komodo and i was hoping to take advantage of full frame anamorphic shooting on this camera. If my fears are right how is it possible that there are shooting modes on this camera that can be up to 1.9gbs but not enough bandwidth for an open gate 4:2:2 … If this is the case the camera is going back before I even open it.
422 vs 420 is barely noticeable tbh. Do some research on it. If you're doing green screen work, you'll need 422 but otherwise 420 is just fine. I've been able to push the 420 codec even in the GH6 (420 5.8k 4:3), and no one has noticed
420 has 1/4th of the color information that 422 has. I have noticed in the past on some projects when it comes to tonality. I’m going to give it a shot and see how panny’s 420 looks. I’m actually more on the VFX side of things doing a lot of CG coming out of Houdini / C4D over plate. That said it was never my intention to use this camera for that work where we typically use a raptor or mini but it would be nice to know would be able to fill in a pinch.
@jordanwright5795 yeah for that work this isn't going to be great. You can shoot 6k BRAW opengate though if you use a video assist. Which I'd recommend anyway doing that work. The opengate was created mainly for content creators or people shooting anamorphic.
@jordanwright5795 that being said, for most people and for most things, 420 is plenty fine IF it's 10-bit. I've never had a problem with the GH6 420 10-bit. But for my bigger projects that require more, I shoot braw or 422
And can take photos:-). C’mon guys this was not sponsored video, this was an advertisement and not a good one. As much I like you guys and the Chanel… but this come across very flat, one shoot in the desert, few made up lines “ I love the system” but didn’t use it last last couple years :-), and “it take photos…! Really, 2023… camera 22 megapix take photos” , ad you’ll make more money with it… that’s ridiculous, in my opinion anyway.
When I shoot commercial video I do it twice. One take for vertical one for 16 by 9 .my clients and models are aware of that. Cropping from 16 by 9 to vertical is no good I'm loosing so much view.
@@Eric.mov_ Yes, however if you use opengate you have to frame the footage in favor of vertical. And you have to shoot differently for horizontal, cropping in just a gimmick and basically you charge for no work, playing your client.
The downside of open gate at current stage is no camera that do open gate as far as I know can do 60p. Most top at 30p. The new BMCC can do 36p. And since slow motion is often needed for social content, I can not use open gate at 30fps as much as I wanted.
I had the same feelings when I saw it is sponsored by Lumix. But knowing how great the S5 line is, he cannot be lyeing. I use the S5 and the S5II/X is a big step up.
The S5-II X is only 6 months on the market. It's the first with hybrid phase detect autofocus. It'll be manufactured for at least 2 more years, if not more.

I love that camera and this review. Maybe my next camera. Just wondering if Parker is still alive?
Amazing Video as usual!
I have a Lumix s5 and i’m still trying to figure out the best way to upgrade to the S5ii without losing much.
Any suggestions?
Sorry I said RAW but I meant BRAW
Retainer clients are my dream. Goal is to land 4-5 clients I can do continuous work with. Do you teach on this at all?
Thinking to buy this one to replace my BMPCC 4K in the future, looks like everything I need. The only downside is that I have to switch from EF lenses (which I already have) but tbh looks like it is well worth the effort!
Sony for life but this camera looks so dope
Great camera for my videos! Thanks.
There's one thing that recently I find about this camera, it isn't the crop at 60FPS but is the moiré, that can ruin the footage.
coming as well from a GH5 i realized that I became an IBIS snob.
Yeaaaah great on Panasonic!! For once... it's not another paid sony schill
Love the video! Is the autofocus in par with sony or canon?
Which one's better, log or raw?
Great review video 👍🏻
G’day from Western Australia 🇦🇺 I own two G7, two GH5 & one GH5II Cameras. If only there was a way to adapt all my expensive mf3 lenses to this mega S5IIX camera then I’d buy it in a heartbeat.
I have been looking at this camera, but I wonder if the Sony Alpha7 IV isn't a better option.
the best hybrid camera`? You probably haven't tested the Fuji Xh2-s :D
But the Lumix is also a great camera, even if it doesn't quite come to the level of the Fuji!
I love this camera. Got it since May and can't imagine to work with different one. But I got a question. U mentions about client charge for 5500, hat is in the package ?
Love my s5iix
Great video!👌can anyone tell me what’s the flash transition he uses called? Where can I buy it?
Watching from Nigeria
So 200 bitrate or mbps is good enough!? What is the point in shooting w 400 or 800 bitrate then? I assumed i needed raw or no less than 400 for a quality product. I been using gh6 hdmi 5.7k 60 and s5iix 4k60 raw as b cam. Im confused. Thank You
best camera for the price
What luts do you use for the s5iix ??
been looking at a s5iix for a bit now, I have a Leica SL2 and SL2S, interested if this would be a bit easier for youtube and social work while also being L mount, looks like it might be perfect
Landon why are you not on your channel! 😢 Great video! 😂
@@antkells11 Thanks so much! I really appreciate the detailed feedback!
But the sigma 24-70mm is what I have on 80% of the time
Fantastic info thank you!@@BrendonKPadjasek
What is your best way to have slowmo after shooting in 6K open gate? 😞
Here is a question for you. That seems like a nice camera but what else can it do besides photo's and video? How easy is it to do sound or get stuff off the camera? Does it use common accessories or do you have to get specific things just for that?
Beware of moire... I love the camera and use it myself. but dang it gets annoying when I find it in my image.
what about the lenses though?
would there be any gimbal recommendation for it?
It depends on your needs. If you want full compatibility then DJI RS3, if you only need a gimbal to support the camera, then a Feiyutech Scorp-C, or G6 Max would do.
Yeah but the crop in higher frame rates kills me
Great ❤
What happened to Parker welback?
What device do you have harnessed to your hot shoe?
This camera can record directly to ssd. That's what it is.
Dude - REAL TIME LUTs!! That’s your VLOG, but you don’t need to grade after a shoot!!
If my fears are right how is it possible that there are shooting modes on this camera that can be up to 1.9gbs but not enough bandwidth for an open gate 4:2:2 …
If this is the case the camera is going back before I even open it.
But for my bigger projects that require more, I shoot braw or 422
So hard to trust these reviews when you start off with “sponsored by ___” then proceed to say good things about it.
We want to hear the Landon story! You left, but are officially back?
Yes, he mentioned in a video once.
Anyone know the song name at 29 sec?
First to watch 💪🏿
Where is my s5iix giveaway at????

When I shoot commercial video I do it twice. One take for vertical one for 16 by 9 .my clients and models are aware of that.
Cropping from 16 by 9 to vertical is no good I'm loosing so much view.
Then you’re doing double the work
@@Eric.mov_ client knows about, and understand why I'm charging times 2!
And since slow motion is often needed for social content, I can not use open gate at 30fps as much as I wanted.
cant really take a review of a sponsored brand too serious...
I had the same feelings when I saw it is sponsored by Lumix. But knowing how great the S5 line is, he cannot be lyeing. I use the S5 and the S5II/X is a big step up.
Comment 4!😂
comment 5
Can it do full frame 4K 60 though? 🤣
No. The only camera in that price bracket, that can do that, is the Canon EOS R6 Mk II. Unfortunately the Canon can't do open gate nor DCI formats.
Is it the gentle way to troll autoenthusiasts by usind song about Chevy while filming Ford?🤣
Lumix is trying to offload the rest of the S5ii/x inventory before they release their new cameras.😂😂😂
The S5-II X is only 6 months on the market. It's the first with hybrid phase detect autofocus. It'll be manufactured for at least 2 more years, if not more.
I hope so I can upgrade my S5.
I truly don't understand this comment!
@@Docfly62 there are new cameras coming in 2024 and Lumix has a history of lowering the price for "older" cameras.
@@iamzr81 The S5ii/x are NOT older cameras....period
