I never got a Gretsch from Sol Betnun. My original came from the guitar player in the Bags, for a lot less than $250.00. It was in two pieces at the time. My second Silver Jet came from a shop in Santa Barbara, and the third I got from Image guitars on Sunset. People like to make up stories about me.
There are many who get a lot more glory than he does- but I don't think there's anything on a guitar that Zoom can't do- and better than anyone. Thanks, Billy!!
billy zoom deserves all the respect he gets he was a great innovative guitar player in a great L.A. band X long live billy zoom X gretsch guitars and the good old usa!
Billy Zoom Rules .Him and Rikk Agnew are in my oppinion , the two most influential guitar players to come out of the Orange County /LA scene in the late seventies early eighties punk bands .There are others but for me those two are tops and If i had to pick a favorite it would be hard because i love both of their styles .That being said i would definitely think that Billy Zoom takes it as far as being technical and versatile but they are both Icons
@@dougsmith7083 yeah he's awesome for sure , but his style isn't nearly as mimicked as much as Agnew , you know that heavy chorus sound is really not used as much , but great unique style and i love it
What do you think of Greg Ginn? Great guitar player, apparently difficult person. I have never met him but his mix of noise, Chuck Berry, free jazz blew my mind
Billy is a guitar nerd and he is so happy to have signature guitar. I have been an X freak since Los Angelas came out and i am happy for him, ever tho we all dissed him for smiling onm stage ( against punk rock rules!)
@@Citykid1982 Lots of them, at least for hardcore. Johnny Ramone did an interview saying the Ramones were trying to follow the new hardcore rules. Gotta play fast, distorted and wear lots of black...Early punk was free er but after about 81 punk had plenty of rules
Billy did and interview that he was being paid about the same amount as a grocery clerk so he left the band. When they got him back he said they made him a better deal. Good for him. Really like his music.
A Well Deserved classic, congratulations! I saw you when you got that in SF, probably at Slims or Great American Music Hall, see you at Slim's next week!
Billy Zoom is what's known as a Great Guy & a Fine Multi-instrumentalist not to get technical about things. I told him once 'You know I've seen 3 of those Silver 'metal-flake' Guitars; all played by great Players: Woody, James Honeyman-Scott & you.' He just smiled in satisfaction & said "I HAVE 3 of those Silver ones." He knew what I was saying better than I did. He's a special Guitarist w/his own way of Living, Playing & Thinking. Also he's using Bigsby & that's a fine tradition John Cipollina kept using. I think that says something. When is he getting His own Lifetime Achievement Award from that sweaty politikal house of Rock, Roll & Fame & the combination of those? It's due.
I like Billy's comments (and sounds) about how responsive his new guitar is. Ain't it great to have a guitar that really, really wants to play? I have an ES-339 that is similarly possessed.
I love Billy's playing and X is my favorite band of all time. That said, all this agonizing over guitar tone and parsing out the pickups and various parts. It's all total bullshit. Just plug the mother fucker in, put it through a distortion pedal, and it's fine.
One of my best and oldest friends was Billy's girlfriend. She paid the $250 for his original Silver Jet at Saul Bettman's Music in Hollywood. She still has the original receipt, hang tags and the cancelled check. Billy wasn't working at the time. He never paid her back and won't even talk to her anymore. Nice huh.
THEMADCHALKER So you say! Maybe there's a good reason he doesn't talk to her. How many of your boyfriends from 35 years ago do you talk to? Or who talk to you?
Billy Zoom a legend as musician, punk rocker and guitar player. One of my personal favorite guitarist of all time.
God Bless Billy Zoom
Probably my favorite guitarist of all time! It's about time he was given this honor. A very cool guitar for a great guy! Congrats, Billy!
So soft spoken. Gotta respect this gentle man.
X is great....always loved Billy's playing - but I especially always loved that Silver Jet! Nice going, Gretsch for doing right by Billy!
Billy Zoom, damn. Great guitarist and guitar.

a Legend. Billy is the Man
Uh huh. He's a "dick" all of a sudden because he opposes Hillary. Got it.
There are many who get a lot more glory than he does- but I don't think there's anything on a guitar that Zoom can't do- and better than anyone. Thanks, Billy!!
one of my guitar heroes for sure..
Much respect to the coolest punk guitarist .

Agreed...but, I would include Ron Emory from TSOL

+Do It Now! vidoe's yeah! Ha ha! He always reminded me of a smiling, happy cat, standing there, playing flawlessly amid all the chaos around....
So true.
+Telstar62a remember those old retro black cat clocks that the cat is smiling and I think the tail wags and the eyes go back and forth kinda like that
Punk has rules?

This dude is a fuckin' legend!! Billy Zoom, you go with your badass!!
BILLY I LOVE YOU!! My favorite guitarist XXXXXXXX
He is one of the top best of all time. He is a true American treasure.
GREAT INTERVIEW!!!! IMHO
And FWIW, I was between girlfriends(chronologically, not physically) when I got the first Silver Jet.
Punk Legend. Also a Rockabilly Legend !!
Still has that smile

Doesnt get cooler then a rockabilly guy in a punk band.
My daughter bowed down to MoPoP tribute to you. It suddenly seems to be your time, albeit 40 years in passing.
BILLY!! You kick ASS!!!!!
Hey, a Charlie Harper shirt.
greatfull I was able to hold that guitar at 16 years old..
Great guitarist!
something shines under a big black sun
Billy’s left handed by the way.
what a good man
X is one of my favorite bands and a lot of that has to do with Billy's playing.
Congrats, kiddo.
