Hi Mabuhay from the Philippines 🇵🇭 i like your farm...new subscriber here hope to have those purple sweet potato i have only yellow sweet potato... God Bless Sir
Thanks for watching! If you can grow yellow sweet potatoes you should have no problem growing purple sweet potatoes. I wish you success with your garden!
Just my two cents worth. The video I watched before this one said nitrogen rich soil yields great vines but poor potatoes. I suspect that is what caused the tiny tubers. Not the weather. And for those of us who are interested in growing these for greens, this would be an outstanding harvest!
Purple sweet potatoes just have lots of anthocyanins while orange have more beta carotene. I prefer to grow the orange cuz I already get a ton of anthocyanins in my diet from other fruit and vegetables but comparatively not a lot of beta carotene.
That's a shame. Are you in the UK? The growing season definitely was not as good this year, so results were worse for me. In previous years, where we had a warmer summer, I had more success. Sweet potatoes need a long growing season, so for me in the UK I have to start them under cover.
Well done. I had a very decent harvest of those purple sweet potatoes this year outdoors and indoors on my allotment. I shared a harvest video and also lessons I learned. Feel free to check it out.
You should've harvested on the 4th month, the earliest. I don't think it's due to the cold weather because we grow the same in high cold mountains with great results.
Hi Joey, I left a small patch a little longer and the leaves turned yellow shortly after, so I don't think I could have left them in the ground much longer than I did. We also had a very poor summer, which meant they were not as vigorous as in previous years. Where abouts are you located and do you grow them outdoors or in greenhouses/polytunnels?
Eat the leaves. if you grow great leave, eat them! Treat them like any greens. The stem between the leaf and the vine taste like bean sprouts. Stir fry them.

A thought for next time, create a green house around your sweet potatoes
I started them in a green house but took it off during the summer.
I tried growing them this year outside and they did nothing. Might need to follow the example of doing them in a greenhouse next year.

Thanks for sharing and I'll certainly check it out!
Do you eat the white potatoes that have the green on it.
No, they are just the areas that popped out of the ground and were exposed to sunlight. I just cut that part off and eat the rest.
