ive got tons of Ratty mixes blasting out of my car everyday...the best for me. the 1993 darkside jungle tekno sets are amazing....it still sounds so futuristic.
My favourite DJ from that era. His mixing skills were perfectly executed. I always mention him, on my X feed, I will definitely go to see him at an event again.
We used to worship these djs like gods but now we are older we are no different from the next man which brings the point that in the old school rave scene it was exactly that maximum respect to Ratty for bringing the masses together one of the top djs this country produced..
God bless Tango. LEGEND. Loved this, what a man Ratty is, again absolute legend. I remember seeing dj ratty and ratty and top buzz, written on bus stop shelters and them grey cable boxes bitd. Such was his impact
❤️ brilliant interview so humble still can tell it’s all still raw and how close he was to Jamie his shyness and then as he got into it he opened up, but left you gripped to, loved hearing how proud he was at digging the rare stuff out and digging that bit deeper loved him talking about topbuzz, the stories to, personally he’s been one of my number 1 idols always spoke to me when out, and from the start approachable, unlike a few out there, David you legend I know you see your self as just someone who put tunes on but your more than that to a lot of us - hope he sees how much he meant to us one day
Well said Brother. Best thing about Ratty is his outlook and attitude. In the dj box he's a mixing titan but you would never find any arrogance or hubris when he talks. He's Boss. He's always been the most entertaining. He'd be the reason I'd go to raves. Him Jamie & Alesa the Fibre Optic Crew. Such great times. Ratty is like your fave player in a football team. The maverick. The one you go to see who gets you up off your seat. Absolutely love this man👍
dj ratty @ quest tapes started me off, always been my fave, lots of my friends were sy dougal fans etc but for me ratty was the man, pilgrim and tango also but always ratty first, especially at vibealite.my first vinyl bought was tango & ratty, tales from the dark side, wouldnt let my mates touch the vinyl!class, pure class.
Love this interview, Ratty is such a wicked DJ and a humble guy too. His early sets had a big influence on me starting mixing & wanting to push boundaries mixing hardcore. It's going to be an honour to warm up for him & Pilgrim at Lindesfarne this year ❤
I have great memories of Ratty at Milwaukees You could stand by the decks I would watch Ratty mix and scratch my mind was always blown great interview R.I.P Tango
Brilliant 👏 I loved it. It's great to actually see the people you followed and watched for over 30 years in a normal kind of setting. I'd love to have a quick chat with Ratty👌
My favourite dj. His cutting at the start of his career legendary. Then 93 his smooth mixing pure pefection. Any edge set you'll hear how good he is. A lesson in mixing those sets
Brilliant interview!, interesting listening to his story. What a great dj Ratty was and is, always selected the best tunes to take you on a journey, for his mixes. Big up Ratty, Big up History Of hardcore Podcast!
Loved this podcast. Ratty is a hero from my teenage rave years. Such a humble gentleman. Ratty you ARE up there with Carl Cox, Groove, Fabio etc. You are a rave legend to millions. Thank you for your music & dj sets ❤
What an interview 🙌 cannot see why your not a big fan of the Camera mate, was glued to that from start to finish…. Big shout to THOH 💯🙏 this is a cracking insight. Remember many a night back in the Eclipse early 90’s Coventry. Tango will always be missed by the Scene but left an Outstanding Musical Legacy for us all to Enjoy. God Bless him ❤
Mint these, keep them comin, ratty, tango, groove,sy etcetc stu allan were the soundtrack to our lives early nineties, hip hop before that, used to work with a lad called Amrik in Manchester from Leamington who knew Ratty, i said to tell him timebomb was mint tune 👊👍
Great watch, good work Alex, what a good guy he is, nice that Sterns got a mention, hopefully he'll play at one of their reunion events? Ratty should start calling Pilgrim Trigger!!😂
So glad you've done this, thank you both. Ratty is a dj and producer legend, but after 30+ years, we can also see what a great chap he is. Humbleness is lost on modern leading djs, sadly. What times the 90s were. A question I'd want to ask Ratty - he did a couple of techno sets. Obsessed and somewhere else- maybe Kinetic. Is that a sound he was actively into? A step away from the 4/4 break beat. Would he have wanted to carry on in that style if events had carried on in that direction?
One of the first influences for me to get a set of cheap as fook belt drives whenI was 13 yr old back in 93. I based my mixing style on ratty to this day, the only DJ back then that used to crossfade chop-chop mixes. It inspired me to pursue djing into turntablism. I'd love to go B2B with the Rat so I could trainspot like back in 93. It's item 3 on my bucket list after cuddle a tiger and walk on a fire.. Reeespeck RATTY, an OG jungle-techno don!! PS: I was probably one of those fans in Wales that wanted ur autograph (Eternal Crew Raves).. This interview is a window into the rave culture back then that Gen Z are totally unaware of, it's like hippie parents pushing jefferson airplane or pink floyd on us as kids trying to make us understand how awesome it is. Bigup for this sorting this interview guys, totally made my day.. . Luvz X
Brilliant episode. That set on the tape pack from Fantazia NYE ‘91 blew my mind and kicked started my whole journey into dance music and desire to learn how to mix. 33 years later still going strong 😎
What a pleasant humble bloke, interesting stories too, should get on the podcasts more often, certainly shorter than 30 year intervals, tango too another legend, still hoping that project 1/feel free gets a repress, dunno if it's just the copies ripped to TH-cam have been hammered (it would be a shame if they werent 🤣) or the mastering was a bit iffy but what a choon feel free is, RIP Tango
Remember Ratty in Reading a few times and his tapes were the first in the tape deck love the darker side of his sets proper DJ and RIP man like Tango ❤
Cracking interview with the man like Ratty! I loved his mixed sets of breakbeats and a techno kinda style. I think the last time I saw him play was either at my old residency at Doncaster warehouse or at Diztruxshon at Howden. One of the very best 💯
This was excellent, a 4eal treat, my favourite dj, still listen to Rattys mixes to this day. Hope Ratty doesn't mind but I uploaded a jtek Tango and Ratty mix on my channel, and made a tribute pic to go with it. Nuff respect.
Very subjective and on their day there were a few - G.E Real (RIP)was fast choppy like Ratty and even more so -Frost , Ellis Dee ,Rider …obviously Bukem but Ratty had that difference. Difficult to explain but he was the Happy Hardcore of Jungle and Darkside 92-94 never crunched anything ..always cute and very slick ❤
Was the friend Alex mentioned Dave Beatty. Euphoria? Mad respect for this. Its the 1st time ive ever properly seen man like Ratty. Wicked interview guys
Rats if your reading this,I reckon Tango would want them tracks to see the light of day, awesome interview mate respect due mate,I loved your set at illusion brother 😎
Much love Dave cheers for the photo amnesia house in Coventry best dj ever and what a bloke! He did say for the people when asked where is robbie dee? The reply was "hmmm him" i didnt ask and he didn't say! So if anyone knows let me know

100% totally unique sound.
My favourite DJ from that era. His mixing skills were perfectly executed.
I always mention him, on my X feed, I will definitely go to see him at an event again.
Absolute legend. Interviewer should give him more space at times
Agreed, doesnt really let him finish.
We used to worship these djs like gods but now we are older we are no different from the next man which brings the point that in the old school rave scene it was exactly that maximum respect to Ratty for bringing the masses together one of the top djs this country produced..

Great interview. Proper, down to earth bloke.
30 odd years later appreciate how fortunate I was to hear tango and ratty at the fruit club swindon 93ish

Ratty was a legend. Top DJ but his tracks were savage. Dark hardcore but still crowd pleasing. Good guy as well it seems no ego.

For who Ratty, and the impact that he’s had on so so many people, he is such a humble down to earth guy. No heirs or graces about him at all.
Ratty was, technically, the best DJ there ever was.
