yeah. But this was only the first Direct for North America. The very first Nintendo Direct was I believe around the same date. It was Iwata and Hideki Konno talking about Mariokart 7. This was in Japan.

God it is so weird coming back in Sept. 2019 and seeing how it all started. I actually forgot that the "What's wrong with you?" meme started here. Directs have definitely come a long ways and now this type of format is becoming the industry standard. Nintendo was really ahead of the time with this one.

It’s still unbelievable how this was exactly 10 years ago today… all of the memories, the leaks, the rumours, and predictions for the future started with this 7 minute video.

8 years later, Directs are still around, and so is the Nintendo 3DS
It’s so cool looking back at these older directs and seeing how different the Nintendo directs are from now and then, having my favorite games being newly announced. The nostalgia is here.

Since this year will mark the 10th anniversary of the directs. I wonder Nintendo is finally gonna make a new one on that October 21st date. All of us are awaiting for that glorious return someday.

The main anger came from the lack of Wii U software info and the then underperformance of the 3DS. The second half of their E3 conference that year was underwhelming, as Wii U only had tech demos to represent it. They wanted game announcements for the platform, and this didn't provide that. In addition, Operation Rainfall was all the rage, so additional pressure was on Nintendo to localize Xenoblade Chronicles, The Last Story and Pandora's Tower. Also, Earthbound hadn't come out for Virtual Console.
In short, they had a lot stacked up against them, and a simple "next 3 months" video wasn't going to cut it.
Hope we ever see Shrek again in a Direct

Also nearly the first half of the direct was applications, and things that aren’t games.
Those that are mentioned were fine, but very short.

And looking at this, boy is that true. This was not an auspicious start, haha. It takes Reggie until 3:44 , half of the "Direct", to actually talk about any video games.
Oh well, at least the "What's wrong with you" line has become iconic.
(And it takes him until 5:03 to talk about any games people actually bought and played...no offense to Pushmo fans, haha)
