I have slowly been tying and filling a 450-fly box for a friend (and keeping a couple for myself), but I will simply have to tie up some of these to add to it! Thanks Davie!
Many years ago tied an all black version. Took a friend who had never flyfished previously. Showing him one flybox, he asked "How do you know what fly to use?" I replied 'Lets turn this stone over...see here's a small black creeper nymph. Here's one similar in the box, tie it on, drop the line in the water a rods length out and walk down stream at the same pace as the river'. He did, and moments later had his first beautiful Brownie in the net.
Just noticed a good tip for removing dubbing from the packet. Instead of opening the plastic packet closure, cut a small hole in the corner of the packet and tease the dubbing out. Much neater, easier, less waste and less mess. Thanks Davie.
Hi Davie. I love watching your channel. Thank you so much for helping me to become a much better fly tyer! May I please ask what type/ brand is the UV fibre that you use when blending your own dubbings please? Thanks again James
James, look in the comments for the Dynamite H Autumn Dun last year - I asked the same question and Davie kindly replied - I won't repeat the link, its long... The stuff is excellent, and incredible value too. Roger
Hi James, Many companies have some kind of UV dubbing and to be honest I do have a few of them which I've bought over the years..The original was Angel hair which was meant for adding into wings for salmon flies though I have attached a link to some Angelina Fibre Bright Blue Magic ..I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for the fly. Can't wait to get out and try this one. I am curious, what type of wax do you use that sticks on the back of your finger like that?
Hi Davie Great fly as always just what I was after for the coming season. Would you consider doing a video on Clyde Style Nymphs? As there seems to be little info on them or tying method. ATB Paul
Hi Paul, I've writing down Clyde style nymphs on my to do list of flies so hopefully I'll get a chance to tye and film one..I'm glad you liked the fly.. All the very best Davie
Hi Colin, I use Veniards Prepared Fly Tyers Wax, I made a video on it a while back so I'll attach a link below for you to see, I would recommend though if you are going to try it just take a small piece at a time rather than making a few as it will dry out a bit if you don't use it quick enough as I do go through it a lot faster than most tyers..I'm glad you enjoyed the video.. th-cam.com/video/IN4N92G14Xg/w-d-xo.html All the very best Davie
Great video love looking at you work. A question for you regarding materials i dont have parttridge was thinking of female teal feathers to try for this fly do you think this would work? Or would you recommend something else to try? Many thanks
Hi Nicky, Yes definitely give it a go as I'm always experimenting myself just to see how it looks as well how it would fish..I'm glad you liked the video.. All the very best Davie..

I'm anti-tying the wing case underneath. It's a huge pain in the ass and those things are tumbling around the bottom, so it seems useless to me.
