I enjoyed the interview and the backstory to the songs but by the end I was saddened to think someone would be made into an idol, only God deserves our worship. Christ is Truth & Life, the ultimate good and the Way to understanding ourselves, but most of us are more interested in lyrics and idolizing ourselves. Idolatry of our own stories and experiences, careers, and outside entertainment. We are dumbed down even as knowledge advances because we don’t seek wisdom. we much rather have a connection to culture (or created things) than a relationship with our Creator.
She is not an idol. She is a lovely human and writes beautiful music that touch so many of us. Her music touch’s me because so much of her lyrics intersect with many of our life’s experiences
I really, really tried to listen to this... but. I cannot care about Taylor Swift tickets beyond feeling good that some consumers are reinvesting money into the economy to go see her.

Thanks from an old Grandpa soul. Justin - turned 69 on December the 15th - soldier from the Front Lines in the Petroleum Exploration business - warrior (as we all are) in the battles of life. Official Swiftie since my grand daughter took me to the Era's Tour Movie in Vancouver on October 13th. I love the Mega Church metaphor - that is what it is. I remember when John Lennon made the quip about The Beatles being bigger than Jesus - but they were a group phenomena they had each other - and dare I say it? They were the Man's. (Forgive me my little Easter Egg here) But Taylor - Taylor is just "every girl" - and Taylor - all on her own - Taylor IS bigger than Jesus - and she understands that power and what it takes to be responsible with it. That is the key understanding here. All I can say is Wow! I look forward to what this Gal is going to do next even as I understand the simple fact that she has accomplished something absolutely singular here already "Turning 34." Yup - just turned 34 and already she is in a place no woman before her has ever explored (that we know of) and yet she has brought all women along with her on this journey. That is the most incredibly remarkable thing here - Taylor as Time person of the year? C'mon people - ain't nobody going to top this for millennia - just like last time - and no Cross for this gal - she's making moves and "Movies" and she is only just getting into her stride. Maybe Time's person of the Decade? (Too soon...)

You captured the essence of the transcendent nature of Taylor Swift and why she connects on such a deep level with so many millions of people. A full definition of journalism is probably beyond me, but i feel like one thing it definitively is not is parroting the story the subject is telling about themselves? Like, if the question is 'why is 2023 the year of Taylor Swift', "here's a few song lyrics and some beats from her Wikipedia entry, with a personal anecdote" just feels deeply underwhelming.
Her discography is too large to be dissected by a 38 min podcast

Boy are you out of touch. I am not a big fan of Taylor, but it is obvious to me that she speaks authentically to her audience, esp woman. What the stupid right wingers don't understand, is that she is as famous as the Beatles were to young women, maybe more so because she is a woman, and can more empathetically speak to the needs and dreams of woman. The right might just awaken a sleeping beast by attacking and ridiculing Swift and her fans.
