I love Uniqlo however their sizing inconsistency is a pervasive problem. I wear anything from an XS to a M with their clothing and can never know what to expect. They charge both ways for shipping. I strongly suggest buying in-store only with them. One of the big advantages to in-store shopping (at least their flagship Soho location in NYC) is also free hemming of trousers. The place becomes a zoo on weekends though.
Uniqlo for me is all about the underwear and socks. I always end up buying a few pairs when I go and replacing my old non-Uniqlo pairs because they're just so much more comfortable.
I would suggest looking up the numerical/actual sizing for their items. Like the measurement of the sleeve length, width, inseam, etc. if you know what measurements look good on you, you can narrow it down that way. Each item will have that information for their sizes, and I’ve seen shirts vary from 22 inches wide for oxfords to 24 for linen. Their website will pull comparable last purchases and you can anticipate sizing that way to reduce returns. There’s always some guessing based on material properties and stretch but I’ve really nailed down certain sizes I can rely on.
t @WiiAllTheWayHome Some do and some don't. They have an auto size feature where you put in your height and weight, but I get the same inconsistent results. They do have this new feature I haven't yet tried where you take a photo of yourself and upload it. I can give it a try, but I have my doubts. Like many retailers these days they source from a very wide variety of constantly changing manufacturers. The problem isn't unique to them, but a v-neck sweater and a crew neck sweater in the same series for example have significantly different dimensions in the same sizes. Fit is king and baggy or too tight is a constant issue.
6:43 to be clear, Aero's cordovan refers to the color not the leather. (It's not shell cordovan). That said, it is still FQHH, front quarter horsehide, so still phenomenal, top of the line leather
The descriptions of quality "ingredients," and illustrations of "serving suggestions," offer the viewer tasteful "recipes" for sartorial success. Thank you; WELL DONE and thoroughly enjoyed!
It's worth to mention uniqlo's stable approach to their regular collections. If you buy a sweater from them, you can easily come back in 5 years and get the same model, same color, for roughly the same price. They don't change collections every year, at least for the daily classics.
Very surprised you guys overlooked Spier & Mackay, they're something of a underdog goldenboy in a lot of menswear circles. They're genuinely one of the best values out there especially if you want that soft shouldered classic American Ivy look.
They’ve covered their shirts before, and I wouldn’t call them underrated. They are such a golden boy to many that they are dangerously close to being overrated. Besides this, they suffer from some massive size/fit issues with their larger sizes which indicates that they don’t scale up their patterns very well. It’s a consistent complaint from larger men (like myself) that S&M sizes consistently run close to two whole sizes smaller than other brands (when dealing with non-measurement based sizes).
@@jake2011rt Yes, despite being pleated, their high rise is more like a mid-rise for me. And their customer service is awful. I try to avoid them as much as possible.
@@spaghettiking7312yep I got a pair of their high rise trousers and they are definitely closer to mid rise on me. I think they focus their sizing on a shorter and slimmer clientele.
Bill's Khakis. As someone sharing the problem of large hips and thighs with Raphael, I can confirm they are an underrated choice well worth it. And I feel definitely confirmed in my choices to see Uniqlo mentioned here. Thank you very much for this video.
The "cordovan" at Aero refers to the color of the hide. It's not shell cordovan but front quarter horsehide in cordovan color. Fantastic stuff however.
As someone who lived in Rio his entire life and recently moved to Germany and need to buy various winter clothes, I was surprised with the quality of Uniqlo. It's not the cheapest store here, but the quality of the clothes are worth it.
For suits Samuelsohn is incredible. Full canvas, use great fabrics from Loro Piana, Zegna, VBC, Colombo, and other reputable mills, have minimal handstitching work, but are also easily found on sale for less than $800 almost constantly.
I have always loved the value of Lands’ End, but I think Bill’s Khakis has to be the best mention in the video. My father has multiple sets of khaki’s and shirts from BK, and they look and feel classy and high end. I especially like the popover oxford shirts they used to make.
When they’re on sale, the Lands’ End Sail Rigger Oxford Cloth Button Downs are great for the price. They’ve become a cornerstone of my wardrobe. Love em.
At the moment Banana Republic offers one at 40% off during their sale, cheaper than the $299 one from LL Bean, but that one is 25% nylon. At MSRP it's $100 more than Bean's. Sheesh, BR's prices have really inflated.
I’ve always liked Land’s End. Sadly, their stock of dressy trousers and jackets has vanished in the past five or ten years. At one point, I actually got a decent suit from Land’s End that - after alterations - wore well for nearly a decade. Land’s End is my go-to for their Serious Sweats line of warmups and sweatshirts.
French shoe makers are highly underrated in the US, but are pretty popular in places like japan. If my house was on fire and i could only save 1 pair of shoes it would 100% be my JM Weston Derby Golf or my Paraboot Chambord that goes well with everything ranging from jeans and chinos to a full suit
@@paulmcgee1867 Mephisto too but only for some models like the Melchior as lots of their shoes are on the casual, comfort with molded soles side. they're really comfy though. i've got a 30 yo pair of black Melchior that are still going strong with a couple resoles along with same vintage Paraboot ones. the Melchior are mostly worn from Autumn to early Spring due to their rubber soles but you can wear them all year long and proper care will help them last a long time like all well made shoes. 😗👌
I'm so glad to see LL BEAN get some love. Nearly all of my Level 3 and Level 4 clothing is from LL Bean - they're v-neck sweaters are lightweight and wear well under a sportscoats, their oxford dress shirts are great, too. AND THEY LAST! and they offer TALL sizes.
Besides LL Bean sweaters, they offer very good OCBDs, corduroy and chinos pants. I’ve known about them for years, so it’s hard to understand how they have escaped the classic menswear eye. One aspect of Bill’s Khakis that is worth mentioning - they leave quite a bit of fabric along the seams, so a tailor can do quite a bit to adjust the pants should you put on a bit of weight. They also will do made to order for customers, though you have to go through a retailer that carries their brand in the store.
The 'Harrington' jacket offered by Murray’s Toggery Shop is in fact the Baracuta G9 Jacket made in the UK. Nice jacket but at $450 is hardly a good value for a cloth jacket. Lands End used to offer a very well made Harrington knock-off for less than $100 but they discontinued it for some reason :(.
I just ordered three L. L. Bean sweater vests from eBay, at fantastic savings. I plan to wear them under tweed sport coats, for added warmth as needed seasonally, without the bulk of sweater sleeves inside the coat sleeves. Meanwhile, I had a lot of Land's End pieces in my wardrobe for decades now: dependable, classic, smart -- and they've worn quite well.
I am surprised you don't mention MTM companies. As a hard to fit guy I have been surprised to find MTM shirts, pants, jackets cost effective to some of the off the rack brands mentioned here and all to your measurements and preferences.
In Germany, we have a few Uniqlo stores and I indeed appreciate the quality and looks of some of their pieces, e.g. their (Merino) wool sweaters. However, they also have stuff of inacceptable quality.
I'm a fairly new viewer, started watching just over a year ago to help develop a proper adult wardrobe. After watching the Gazette videos about sleepwear and house wear I bought a Baturina dressing gown/robe to keep warm in my basement. I chose to fully customize it and I love how it looks. I do have a couple thoughts, 1: the lining options are mostly polyester but if you choose a cotton lining it will be harder to put your arms through, 2: the arm holes are quite big, I don't know if this is the norm and I don't know if Baturina can make them smaller, but with the robe tied closed it's rather difficult to raise my arms.
My grandparents (and me through exposure and inheritance) always loved Land’s End, I wore some of their 80s era blue oxford shirts in school, but their recent examples have been lacking. Lots of stubby collars and poly mixed in.
Oh no he did not refer to the UHB! I first heard that term in the movie “Metropolitan.” The so-called Urban Haute Bourgeoisie. Insert MAJOR EYE ROLL HERE!
Would love to see you guys do a series on bigger man clothing and the best places to find them. Still this have me new places to look and hopefully buy some. Also for Preston, the fashion of Jack The King Kirby, you have to admit his style was timeless

I don't know if Tomaz is out there in the west because for me I kind of like their blazers I don't know if it possible for you all do a video about them
I've been a Lands' End customer for decades, but in recent years they've been limiting options, and they've developed some odd ideas about sizing. To quote an email from their customer service, "The item if ordered in a 32, will not be a 32-inch measurement as it would be too tight for the person who would be wearing the item. The size would be increased by one and a quarter inch with a factor of plus or minus .5 inches. The size 40 that you have ordered would measure 41.25 inches (+/- the .5 inch)." My 40s were a full 42 in. This has happened a couple of times, so IMO it's some combination of odd thinking and lax QC.
For the algo. Trifecta. Subbed & liked. Never heard of you or saw you show up in my feed, but it looks good already. We do mostly (90%) menswear, on feeBay & Pish.
I’d love to see y’all do a video on Banana Republic’s rebrand. I think menswear enthusiasts have dismissed them for years and for good reason. They were a boring and behind the times retailer. But the stuff their putting out now is actually pretty great.
Does anybody know the off the rack trouser brand like Kit Blake that he mentioned, but in EU. If I order from UK to Croatia it's very expensive because of VAT.
who wrote the script for this? Aero doesn't use cordovan leather for their jackets? Cordovan can't be used for jackets. Aero use a lot of chromexcel, and one color they offer for chromexcel is cordovan, which is just burgundy. The cordovan leather this video is talking about can only mean shell cordovan, no panels of shell cordovan is going to be big enough for making jackets.

I agree with Lands End, a bit like a budget RL, not in a bad way. They incorporate a lot of vintage styling which is in good taste.
As of typing this, I’m wearing some Land’s End. I wore some L.L.Bean, a few days ago. My fit today, is even inspired by one in a Land’s End Catalog.
