I love how you play abda first and then the pacific mod, The ABDACOM mod Forces you in a carefull position, If not your gonna get some beating. It teaches Admiral's to be appreciative of they're vessels even if its an old ww1 DD or a Ww1 era CL or smth else.
Meanwhile in the pacific mod you Are in both Offensive and defensive, you dodged a bullet By holding australia but now faced with What is your next move against a powerfull opponent? By playing ABDA you already know How to Fight properly and not underestimating your enemy Or Faced the same beating. Unlike ABDA this Mod Is a perfect carrier Battle Arena, I liked to think the ABDA mod is A Plane management training for the Pacific because its hell alot larger :-:.....

I am so happy to see that this series has started! You have 31 Gato (rhymes with 'day-o', according to USN Submarine School Groton circa 1990-ish) subs, and they were the 'do it all' subs of the war, along with Tench and Balao-class. Think back to the devastation you wrought in the prior series with subs; expensive but very useful when the surface navy balance heavily favors IJN. I'd like to see you go after some of these bigger IJN formations utilizing 'wolf-pack' tactics. I dream of the episode where you have a couple of subs, at 10 and 2 o'clock to a formation, firing full spreads, with crisscrossing patterns creating maximum chaos, causing collisions and IJN panic. Thanks again for all the enjoyable content!

    • @darthvegan
      @darthvegan  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Full Declaration of War speech:
"Yesterday, December 7, 1941-a date which will live in infamy-the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan.
The United States was at peace with that Nation and, at the solicitation of Japan, was still in conversation with its Government and its Emperor looking toward the maintenance of peace in the Pacific. Indeed, one hour after Japanese air squadrons had commenced bombing in the American Island of Oahu, the Japanese Ambassador to the United States and his colleague delivered to our Secretary of State a formal reply to a recent American message. And while this reply stated that it seemed useless to continue the existing diplomatic negotiations, it contained no threat or hint of war or of armed attack.
It will be recorded that the distance of Hawaii from Japan makes it obvious that the attack was deliberately planned many days or even weeks ago. During the intervening time the Japanese Government has deliberately sought to deceive the United States by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.
The attack yesterday on the Hawaiian Islands has caused severe damage to American naval and military forces. I regret to tell you that very many American lives have been lost. In addition American ships have been reported torpedoed on the high seas between San Francisco and Honolulu.
Yesterday the Japanese Government also launched an attack against Malaya.
Last night Japanese forces attacked Hong Kong.
Last night Japanese forces attacked Guam.
Last night Japanese forces attacked the Philippine Islands.
Last night the Japanese attacked Wake Island. And this morning the Japanese attacked Midway Island.
Japan has, therefore, undertaken a surprise offensive extending throughout the Pacific area. The facts of yesterday and today speak for themselves. The people of the United States have already formed their opinions and well understand the implications to the very life and safety of our Nation.
As Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy I have directed that all measures be taken for our defense.
But always will our whole Nation remember the character of the onslaught against us.
No matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated invasion, the American people in their righteous might will win through to absolute victory. I believe that I interpret the will of the Congress and of the people when I assert that we will not only defend ourselves to the uttermost but will make it very certain that this form of treachery shall never again endanger us.
Hostilities exist. There is no blinking at the fact that our people, our territory, and our interests are in grave danger.
With confidence in our armed forces-with the unbounding determination of our people-we will gain the inevitable triumph- so help us God.
I ask that the Congress declare that since the unprovoked and dastardly attack by Japan on Sunday, December 7, 1941, a state of war has existed between the United States and the Japanese Empire."

It will be touch and go around Milne and Port Moresby. ASP supplies, Eng, Fuel to these and upgrade these airbases. To survive - damage the BB and CA and these should exit toward Rabual or go back the way they came. Suggest after these skeddale - to send Beufighters with rockets to look for supply ships moving in straight line from Rabaul to Shortland. Sink these, one point each. I was able to sink 2 to 6 a day. Use the P38''s as well. I puchased two CV's with Destroyer escorts as my main group and sent these to the area - the rest of the point went to supply ships. It was touch and go in that area for a while

Hint: use B17's from Midway, no bombs, fly max range to Tarawa, deplete the fighters there by using box formation and circle up to 10000. Do the same with Wake. This makes it easier to strike these islands for invasion. Use Carrier CAP cover invading TF. Japanese fighters will not be a problem after B17's wipe them out daily. Later, build USN DD or DE cheap ones, and use these as TF screen to go ahead of carriers, these will soak off IJN and IJA airstikes. Fly cap over these, shoot em down,
Use this pattern to defend Moreby, Milne area. Do it right, you can decimate Japanese air power and make it easier to get thru the first 150 - 180 game days.

British Torpedoes are usually very good. And so are the Bristol Beaufort's - these are, at least 60 mph better than the Swordfish in Abdacom! Four mounted 0.303 Brownings next to the pilot and a nose Vickers 303 also in the nose and a twin 303 M.G in the turret and two crew machine gun on two further mounts in the fusilage. The Bristol Beaufighter is some 30mph faster than the Beaufort's. But has 4 20mm cannon and four 303 Brownings.

Hell Yeah!!! A brand new campaign which will no doubt be the best, I'm telling you now Darth Vegan.. this is going to be the biggest and most difficult one your going to work with, but.. with skills developed from the others you've done, you'll get through this one.. I'm sure you will. Great start to a new campaign, and we ended up facing the might of our natural and traditional enemies in good number from the start. If their sending large task groups out with battleships, they mean business. So we best expect a very hard struggle ahead, the island hopping campaign to liberate and free the islands under Enemy occupation is going to involve a lot of hard work and planning on taking down the enemy's forces. I can tell the enemy is out hell bent because they we're fast to hit back, episode 1 and blood has been spilt on both sides, yes they hit you but you landed a good first punch. That Battleship damaged isn't going to able to persecute your forces at 100 percent. If your going to be liberating Wake island I'd say that's perhaps the easiest.. it's small but your land based aircraft will get more ranges. I'm not going to lie here.. you best keep majority of your subs close to Enemy home soil and deep inside their backyard, best to use those to disrupt logistics and supplies, that can help tie up Enemy warships 😉. Great episode mate, this has already got us viewers cheering, awesome start. Looking forward to the next episode 👏 👍

    • @darthvegan
      @darthvegan  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yeah, I think the sub warfare on their logistics will be a good place to rack up some kills and gather some command points (unlike in ABDACOM).

    • @joeaustin4472
      @joeaustin4472 ปีที่แล้ว

@@darthvegan It's actually the same tactics that the U.S Navy actually did in the war, it was very effective and no doubt enabled the U.S Navy the path to winning the war. There were torpedo failures en mass so we can expect that to happen in the campaign, but yes.. trust me, I won't lie to you, your a brother warrior.. use your subs on their logistics and convoys.. make that the top priority for your subs. Fair enough it won't eliminate the problem, but it will buy you time and benefits in the campaign to liberate the Pacific Islands. If you have subs to spare.. no harm in using them to stalk Enemy fleets 😉👍

Appart from getting carriers in groups of two, so you can use one for strikes while you can scramble fighters from the other (I think when the encounter pop up appears you can still order aircraft to take off), beaufighters are great commerce destroyers. Armed with rockets and quad 20 mm cannons, they tear freighters appart.

I have been playing the pacific mod for the past few days im on day 100+ and i have upgraded the airbase on port moresby and i highly reconend you to do the same as the p-38e lightnings are very powerfull as they go very fast, have good range, have very good guns, and can carry 2 500 pound semi armor pericing bombs, you can also use them to bomb ships at low altitude with high speed to take less losses. you get also b25's and b17's, b17's are also very powerfull as you can equip them with 4 1600 pound armor peircing bombs, And they still have 800+ miles of range, more then enough range for any thing you need them for.

    Just remember...
The Northampton and Pensacola class heavy cruisers were called "tinclads" with good reason! They were used as carrier escorts mostly. They didn't do well in surface actions. Half the Northamptons were sunk during the war, and Pensacola herself came close!
The Portland class were better, but the New Orleans and Wichita were the best armored of the prewar cruisers.
As for light cruisers, the Brooklyn/St. Louis were the best armed and armored of them. The Navy wouldn't risk the Omahas in surface actions, and kept them on convoy escort duty. The Atlantas were kept on Carrier escort too, after Atlanta and Juneau were lost at Guadalcanal.
    Destroyers...
Gridley/Benham class had the heaviest torpedo battery in the world; four quad launchers, two per side. The Mahan/Sims classes had three quads.
The Benson/Gleaves are best put to carrier escorts too. They do have two quint torpedo launchers! As do Fletchers. But Fletchers had the best protection.
    Hope this helps, truly!

Haven't tried this. Perhaps in a few months. I think a different strategy on the first IJN group would be to my liking. The big ships are surrounded by protecting smaller ships. In order to get to the bigger ships the fire from several platforms have to be contended with.
I think going after the smaller outlying ships in the group would yield better results provided that time permits. Flank the smaller ships. The fire from only 1 or 2 platforms will be a threat instead of the fire from 4-6.
Just keep pecking away at them. If the larger ships retreat because they have lost their cover from the smaller ships, that is still a win.
I like the idea of sending subs at Tokyo. Wolfpack the crap out of the home island.

Other than that the game and these mods seem really interesting. The inclusion of the hybrid Kearsarge is going to be interesting, and I can't decide if she's better off in a main battle line, or as an escort for a carrier task force. I'm surprised you went for this mod as i thought personally you weren't a fan. Many other channels have done this & it gets boring, it's too big. I would say a lot of this is the fault of the mod maker, they've removed the fun factor over trying to make it super difficult. I wonder if anyone else has modded this mod?

They are expensive, but I think they can really win the war just about by themselves if played well. I know a lot of people choose to even play without them due to this.

I know people say that, but you often only sink 1 ship per convoy sighting if they have escorts. If it's a capital ship you normally don't sink it due to all the duds!! And if the escorts find you it's generally game over.

AAAAANNNNDDD…. The Japanese never occupied the Santa Cruz Islands, so there’s something unnecessary to fight for. I notice the strictness about when newer ships are available, too bad they didn’t dig a little deeper into their research…
The Kearsarge and Kizen are mythical ships that never got off the drafting table. The Kearsarge was a dumb idea because its flight deck was shorter than any escort carrier, and the Hellcats it’s supposed to have on it would just dive off the front into the drink. (or onto a turret)
The Lexington wasn’t sunk yet, in February of ‘42, so why is there a new one?
What’s next? Armored Assault Blimps with 6-inch guns?
Geez, these guys bug me sometimes.

I don’t think the USN would have been screwed-up enough to build the Kearsarge. Its design flaws were duly noted at the time. There would have been all sorts of unexpected turbulence over the flight deck, too.
I’m worried that the developers are pandering to popular demands too much, history be damned, until they end up with ships with lollipop “camouflage”, like in World Of Warships.
This Pacific Campaign is way too ungainly and hard to manage, especially for guys who finished the Watchtower Vanilla game by the skin of their teeth and are feeling frisky.

The WW2 Vets I grew up around gave me the pronunciation I use. It was the same on those series I mentioned.
Those W-m vids also got the details of the battles at Coral Sea and Midway mixed up; saying Yorktown sunk in Coral Sea, and Lex at Midway. They're really awful videos!
I've never heard "Ra-bowel", but nor have I been there.😂
Back in High School, we had foreign exchange students from all over... Germany, Finland, Norway, Australia, Japan, Philippines, Italy... I took every chance I could to learn pronunciation from them. Made some great friends! Sadly lost touch with them; this was in the early 80s! But I learned a lot from them, and they from me. That's the whole point of that program!
BTW... I used to pronounce Milne Bay as "Mil-nee", until my Aussie friend ("mate") taught me it rhymes with Kiln.😂😂😂
I also butchered names in the Philippines, until my friend patiently taught me!😁 I enjoyed every moment of those days. Good times!
