I'm 26 and I've been getting really nostalgic about the 2000s and 2010s. I've been rewatching a lot of old adult swim broadcasts from the 2000s uploaded on TH-cam. I've spent more time playing games from the PS1-PS3 then newer games. Things were just simpler back then.

3:25 this is the exact reason why nostalgia became a bad matter for me. It's just pure pain at this point. Because of the fact that this happiness and easiness back then is forever gone and will never come back. I can no longer label nostalgia as a good feeling because it always hurts when i see or relive such good moments in the past, knowing it is just burning memories.
I simply have to listen to certain videogame soundtracks and tears start running down my face right away.
When i go shopping and i see how different the mall looks after they rearranged everything, still remembering where everything was almost 20 years ago and the exact places of items in the shelves where i was happily skipping alongside my mother... man it just hurts so much.

I just turned 29 but tbh I don't feel very different compared to when I turned 20. I'm more fit and healthy now than I was at 20, and I feel like the same person, just a bit more mature and experienced. The world was alot better 10 years ago though, the past decade has been a disaster in many ways. I deliberately stick to the past when it comes to entertainment, because its just much better, and it's not necessarily for nostalgia reasons.
It's pretty interesting that youtube is one of the few places on the Internet that has preserved its old content. Most sites from the 2000s and early 2010s are shut down, with content lost forever. It is done on purpose actually, and when you google you almost never find anything old anymore. Unless the user has deleted its content, old youtube videos are still available.

What a wonderful breakdown. I love to hear your successes and your perspective on this topic. I am the same way when it comes to my entertainment. Damn I say this everyday too everyone that 10 years ago the world was a much better place. The sad thing is everyone denies it and says even in those years bad shit was happening. While true it wasn't as bad as it is today. Not even close. After 2020 it all went horrible. I know I'm not wrong because I remember those days very well and I'm glad I got too experience them.

Something I've realized is that nostalgia is sort of a drug for me. I focus on the happy feelings that the past gives me too much, that I lose sight of the present. Things were better back in the day compared to now that's for sure. But who knows, If I work at it my future can be the happiest time I will have.

Man were in the same boat. Im 27 and still play gears 2 online. And i was just recently playing BO1. The reason games dont hit the same way they once did is cuz were not in that age group anymore. I still think back to running over to my freinds house to get in a match or 2 of COD before the bus came in middleschool. Or times when me and my brothers would system link two consoles and all 6 of us would play halo 3. Seems like at that time our lives were just frozen in bliss and we didnt know how good it was till it was gone. We were so focused on growing up that we didnt know just how good we had it. My life is good now though. Got an amazing girlfreind and a 3 month old daughter. I dont want to relive those years, but sometimes i wish i could go back and rewatch them. Knowing il be 30 in 2.5 years is weird man, but were still kids deep on the inside. Cant let society take that from us

Same. I’m 28 now, and in recent years I haven’t been able to emulate the fun I used to have with gaming. 2007-2012. Getting home from school and playing world at war all the way up to black ops 2. Gears of war, halo, transformers revenge of the fallen etc. all these games were so good and much simpler times in life overall. I’m also approaching 30 now and have my first son to take care of. There was nothing like it in my opinion. MW4 through Black Ops 2 and Halo 3 were the best eras of gaming of all time. The new generations will never understand what it was like. Add to the fact, TH-cam was in its prime. Censorship wasn’t a thing, people could say whatever they wanted without their content getting deleted forever. The entire internet as a whole was free with as much information as you ever wanted. And now people in general are much more vicious and quick to delete/censor any kind of information they don’t agree with. Cancel culture is the new “Book Burning” generation and it has ruined literally every area and facet of life.

Man did this video hit hard. I’m 33 now, with a wife and 2 kids, so in a similar situation to you. I started playing back in CoD 4 on release and Xcal was the first guy that I just said “Wow, this guy is unbelievable”. Followed him for years. B3yond, joehands0me and iBlesSed were great players, too. I do agree that nostalgia is such a powerful emotion, and I do crave it constantly. Be it in different games (Halo, WoW, etc.), sports, life as a whole, it’s such a great feeling to remember and to experience things you did so many years back. I would never change my current situation, I love my family with all my heart. But it isn’t a bad thing to remember the good old days!
P.S. sorry for bad English as it isn’t my first language. Thoroughly enjoyed the video, reminded me of old school, simple CoD commentaries, so you definitely got a new sub.

Great video and thanks for the insight. I just hit 30 recently and have had major nostalgia trips since my mid 20’s. No one really talks about having a 1/4 life crisis but that full transition to adulthood is crazy. You just completely lose your youth in a way and adult life hits hard and fast.
Watching these vids are always nice bringing back so many memories of being a kid and just having absolute joy over the simplest things and having no worries in the world. I’ve unfortunately almost entirely moved away from video games as a hobby because it’s just not the same. But similar to you I enjoy my life now even though it can be hard at times and I’ve enjoyed finding new hobbies that fit how I’ve changed as a person

I’ve been thinking a lot about this recently. I played away the 00s and early 10s on classic CODs, Halo, Dragon Age Origins, Oblivion, etc., mostly the 360 era for me.
I still get nostalgic for these games, and they’re always gonna be something special to me, like these games created an online “club” so to speak. It was a space that a specific group of people spent a lot of time in, like MW 2 OG at launch was a unique, temporary space just like the particular energy at a famous club in NYC during the 80s or something like for example. I think like you touched on in the video, that ephemerality adds to the allure of that moment.
Anyway, this comment is getting long, but I also think part of the appeal of these classic games with the nostalgia train is a desire to take a break from life with uncomplicated joy, but it ends up not hitting quite the same because life has moved on, you know?
I’m just glad other people are talking about this, because it’s cool to see so many other guys experiencing a similar nostalgia for this golden age of gaming. Cool vid!

    • @loadedbuggy
      @loadedbuggy  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

Phenomenal analysis and it couldn't be more accurate. The 360/PS3 era had so many amazing games that once these big companies realized just how much money they could squeeze out of gamers, the quality of these titles started to suffer in favor of micro transactions.
Games used to have such strong communities around them. Especially COD. Every lobby was filled with people talking (or screaming) but these days, lobbies are almost silent.
      That era was just unmatched.

I've been on a mad nostalgia trip these last few months, if not longer, and I can't 100% confirm why. I've been enjoying playing old games, watching older YT videos, listening to music I listened to through highschool.
It's so weird because I don't look back and remember really loving life or those times necessarily, but I just lived through them and didn't think or worry too much about anything.
My main worry was coming home and playing a video game and listening to music or whatever it may have been. Now there's just so much more I think about that stresses me out, and that only gets worse as you get older.

I think nostalgia can function in so many ways.
In one way it can be a loving reminder of times gone by, people you interact with, places you visited and so on. However, it can also be the exact opposite. Most people would say the world has steadily gone worst over the last 5 - 10 years or so. Numerous high profile conflicts and a dire economic situation are some examples of that.
As a result, more people reach out to nostalgic content to remind them of a time when stuff like this either wasn't happening or they simply were too young to have any idea of it.
In the last few years I've seen my local area change so much. Elderly neighbors that have passed away, shops that used to be there (especially ones whos owners knew my family) and even something as small as new buses.
I accept that I won't feel the same now as I did when I was 14, nor will I exist in the same world. However, I take joy in the fact we can all find a small amount of comfort in our shared nostalgia of old COD games. I think they are becoming more prevalent in the last few years, especially in YT shorts with nostalgic and sad sounding music. Because our generation of millennials/early Gen Z are so prevalent on the internet, we see plenty of references to pop culture/music/games from the childhoods of that era.
Have a great day to anyone reading this. I hope you find happiness and comfort wherever possible.

Beautiful summary and analysis. Could not have said it better myself. Nostalgia is a thing to be enjoyed but also not a thing to rely on. Life goes on, times and things change and although we can cherish the things of the past, it is healthy to let fade away. We have memories for a reason and we can all collectively remember our good times while doing our part in moving forward. 🙏🏻

Amen brother, hearing your perspective as a viewer vs what content creator's discuss how the change between then and now is something I feel isn't talked about enough (even though live comms are pretty much dead now) Those golden years of youtube had an element of optimism for the future and this sense of wonder, of how far gaming could go, how interconnected everyone could be. Creature talk and the interactivity of their audience is something that comes to mind. Their road to e3 made everything seem so grand and connected. Sure we might have grown up but I look at the newer youtube and can't help but feel that today's youth missed out on the last age of the internet where creators and the audience had a certain rapport. Almost everyone knows and feels that this is run by advertisers and the corporate and the sad reality to that end is that people are talking less than they did before, personalities seem to fit a mold (podcaster with patreons, streamers uploading to youtube) rather than individuals coming together on the same platform to be themselves. Ah well. Cheers.

Hey dude, beautiful commentary. Please do more like this ❤
I'm struggling crazy at the moment. I was always very fit and had many friends. I just looked for the new big adventure. Drinking, smoking, playing cod, hopping on the train and visit new cities..
But then, the pandemic started. I got very extreme depression. Like, dont shower in 4 weeks and just staring at the wall. I did this now for 3 years. And exactly when I worked on it, my best friend died. He overdosed because of his PTSD.
This was last November. And it punched me in the face. I was 6 months at home. I didnt leave the house. I don't have a Job.
I'm sleeping in the kitchen now because I cant sleep next to my wife.
I decided to work on my life. I want to move forward. But I think my past got me. I gained 20kg more weight on top. I started smoking heavily in 2020 and now I can't breath as good as before.
And now I need to go to the doctor because it could be something with my heart or similar.
Im worried that I missed the time window. I want to change my life. I want to go to gym. And I even have the motivation now!! But now I cant do it. I have to wait what the doc says.
Guys, don't wait. Just do it. It could be to late for me. I need luck and god on my side to get out of this without any damages.

    • @loadedbuggy
      @loadedbuggy  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Clearly you have had a very rough stretch my friend and I want to offer just a little encouragement. I too struggled with depression for years and although I can't offer you a solution to your problems, I can say that there is always hope. Because of your medical conditions you may not be able to go back to who you were before and how you lived before but that doesn't mean you are any less valuable.
I don't know you, but that doesn't matter. I care about you and am rooting for you, and I'm praying for your success.
Coincidentally I have a video coming out Wednesday that I think is very applicable to your situation. Others shared similar sentiments as yourself and I thought I'd talk about it. I hope that video at least provides a little encouragement at the very least. 🙏🏻

      I appreciate the kind words.
I will go to the doc and do a complete checkup. If he says I'm able to train and doing sports, I will definitely do that.
My friend invited me to his gym! He's already on his way to better health. And I'm glad he want to move forward together with me. I'm extremely thankful for that.
I need to change my lifestyle. I don't want to die just because I didn't even tried to make things better!
I already started with slow activities like riding bicycles and hiking a little hill. I want to do that routine everyday now! :)
I hope you're well. Depression are... We both know how it is.

For some reason there's this idea that nostalgia is bad because it keeps you stuck in the past, but we also wouldn't be who we are without it.
Whatever memories you have, good, bad, mediocre, whatever...are based off of experiences and, yes even old interests, hobbies & past times which have brought us to where we are today, and it's one of the core reasons we're able to constantly be inspired.
It's beautiful to see so many people these days connecting through things they used to love or enjoy, & we realize that these same things are just as great because they have a timeless effect on us

The old cod games from cod4-bo2 are always fun to go back to. In my opinion, they're still just as fun as they were during their prime. One of the main reasons I can't play them as much anymore is due to a lack of players (very much expected due to how old the games are). It's a shame that I can''t play most of them on PC anymore due to the massive amounts of security risks by playing them on Steam. I've tried playing the older cod games on the 3rd party clients like plutonium, iw4x, etc to get past the security risks, but playing on the 3rd party clients do not have the same fun factor at all.
It's a shame I don't have my xbox anymore to go back and play them. These games were a HUGE part of my childhood, and even now as an adult while working and attending college both full-time, these older CODs are still some of the best games I've ever played to this day. It really sucks that current the COD games will never be this fun again, no matter how many new features or gameplay mechanics are added to the newer games. This is all due to corporate greed and scummy matchmaking algorithms completely ruining the classic COD experience we all knew and loved. MW19 was the beginning of the end of the franchise in terms of actual fun gameplay in my opinion. Even games like BO3 were still pretty fun, despite not being as enjoyable as the older games from the golden era.
Great commentary. Watching this video instantly brought me back to 2009-2012.

A lot of the nostalgia people feel for the older CODs, comes from peoples lives at the time and not the actual game. The older games were undoubtedly better, but most people’s lives were better back then too. A lot of us were careless kids at the time or young adults with many less cares in the world. That’s a big part of the feeling people miss, and activision actively takes advantage of that by nostalgia baiting. The thing is the perfect COD could be released and people won’t feel the same because that part of their life is long gone. That being said the modern cods are still worse. I hope BO6 brings it back a little bit but people should be realistic about it and understand that times have changed and that same feeling won’t ever come back. Doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy ourselves though.

I've had an interesting experience with nostalgia as of late - I am a massive Star Wars nerd and love the original trilogy. Few weeks ago my best friend watched them and absolutely hated them. His main criticism was that the dialogue was trash. I got so offended I called him all the names imaginable and really couldn't comprehend how he can dislike these movies. He basically told me the only reason these movies are good is cause of their nostalgic value and I was kinda stunned. I still heavily disagree with him, but there is definitely a lot of nostalgia that clouds my judgement (as well as a lot of passion for the Star Wars Universe to the point I might even be considered a gate-keeper I guess). I also enjoy older video games and movies, as well as older music. We all want to be young again, I don't know if you can blame us for that, but we should be all aware of that and it's nice that you talk about this so freely

    • @loadedbuggy

I can relate to this so deeply... As a father and husband I've wanted nothing but to share my interests and favorite films with my wife and kids and sometimes they like them and other times they fall flat. Our nostalgia can greatly enhance our opinions on things and when others don't reciprocate defense mode is certainly a default for many of us...
I've learned that my nostalgia is not the nostalgia of all and I've had to allow myself to let my kids especially create their own nostalgia and not try to force it upon them.

Me and my cousin still play Black Ops 1 every other week, but I feel like if I were to just start up an empty round on Nuketown and walk around, nostalgia would consume me to the point of tears if I let it.
Just thinking about how the internet “culture” used to be back then, and how many people used to play that were (for a lack of better words) last online years ago.
Maybe they’re full grown adults with responsibilities now, maybe they’re no longer with us, maybe some of them never left.
I love nostalgia, but I can’t let myself go too far down the rabbit hole because it’ll hurt too much, knowing how good it all was and even though these old COD games don’t hit the same way they used to, I’m happy they’re still here and that on both X360 and PS3 you can still find matches easily.

I remember even playing with 30-40 year olds back in the day, and that same generation talk fondly of that 2004-2014 era. We truly lived in the golden era of modern gaming, boys. We really didn't know how good we had it..

I cant really say I am nostalgic about the past, I think I just miss simpler times. People often want exciting and seasons lives but once you past certain gates of experience and "worldliness", those simpler times of bliss or happiness become harder to create, simply by our abilities becoming much greater and the scope of the world growing. In terms of older media, cant say I miss it because its what I watch/do, I checked out of the culture whenever tik tok first launched.

Definitely understandable and reasonable approach. Media is full of filth these day's so it sure can be difficult to navigate. I too have never fully left older media behind, but I find myself revisiting it more and more as the days go by.

I still tune into PKA every week just in case they ever bring up anything from the old days, love getting that hit of nostalgia.

I'm 28, was 14 when black ops 1 released, I've played since cod 4. Lately none of the newer titles seem to capture that classic good feeling I had when I played the older titles like BO1, the closest I got was recently playing the BO6 Beta.

You've probably seen it, but there's a movie called "the wrestler". The movie follows the life of a professional wrestler who's coming towards the end of his career.
In the movie, there's a part where he visits a kid's house who he knows and he plays an old wrestling game with him. However, at one point in the movie, he goes to play the wrestling game with the kid again, but what does he decide he wants to play instead? CoD 4. (The OG modern warfare.)
The movie came out around when cod 4 was released and the wrestler in the movie looks on as though he misses the days of when the kid would play the old wrestling games with him and is nostalgic for said wrestling game.
Now, the kid and people like us, would be nostalgic for cod 4 and wish the days of CoD 4, the OG MW2 or Blops 1 would come back. It just seems bizarre to me to be in this situation, I feel old bro. 😂😂
(The wrestler is a fantastic movie by the way, you or anyone who happens to read this should see it if you haven't already.)

Word of advice, nostalgia is great as it helps us reflect back on what was. But staying stuck in the past is absolutely something that causes old head syndrome. You aren't experiencing the new things that life has to offer. Living in the moment now is what makes new memories for future nostalgia. There's always time to relive things and appreciate it but living in that reality everyday is super awful for your mental health.

Great perspective on balancing the past with your present/future. It's good to look back fondly, but learning to let go and love in the now is just as important. 🙏🏻

I think the thing is a lot of us are wiser more so than we older. I’m in my late 20s and better than COD than I have ever been. Do I play more patiently? Yes. Are my stats better? Also, yes. I think sbmm has made a lot of people feel washed when they were above average before. I think what’s hard to accept for a lot of players is they feel they lost a step, but the game has changed significantly.

This. It's so true. Age is not a mindset. You can grow in wisdom and ability without dozens of years to account for it. Such an important distinction.

Nostalgia is a fleeting emotion. Like “ ahh, remember blacks ops, that was fun, oh well”. You think about it than move on.
Always keep moving. Dwelling on things is not good. Living in the past is not good.

    • @loadedbuggy
      @loadedbuggy  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

Agreed! It's okay to look back but it's not healthy to focus on the past. The past is behind us and as great as it may have been, your present is what needs your attention. Balance is key.
