My son found a beautiful shiny red 1970s small date yesterday. He’s also subbed to you. I encourage his collecting, he has a wheat collection and now a Lincoln memorial one. Also a collector star notes. We simply go to banks and gas stations and exchange our money. It’s so fun and I’m so happy he has your channel to look at for information! Thank you!
I'm lucky enough to have one of each (both are BU in appearance, maybe even MS-62). Thanks to you I noticed I had them in the wrong slots in my book. Thank you for helping people like us learn more about our coins for our collections/resale.
Well, I spent $30 on an ungraded small date in decent condition a while ago. I'm pretty happy with it. It's one of those dates penny collectors always have an eye out for.
July, 4th, 2024)…I just found a 1970-s large-date, one cent penny. I was very excited 😮 to have found an “s” mint mark until I looked it up on your site for the details, the number that was produced, I realized it wasn’t anything so special, but it still is to me because it’s a S mint mark. I just wanted to say thank you for the info, it was very helpful to explain what I had. ❤😊 Thank you!🥰👍
Even though the video was from five years ago, it was a very good video and explained very clearly what I had. Thank you so much, you’re the best.!!❤😊 by the way, I feel finding the S mint mark coin was special and exciting, and I certainly do plan on keeping it!❤
this is the coin that made me start selling them. I had started collecting but then I moved and was digging a garden at my new house. I chopped through a layer of volcanic ash from Mt St Helens eruption that landed here in 1980 and the 1970S was underneath it. it was packed with dirt, rim to rim. I had in and out of olive oil for a year. I just happened to have a old copy of the Red Book and when I saw what I found, I got really enthusiastic fast. hey, I thought one of the large date DDOs was the real prize of the 1970S coins.
I have found 1970s them before , I threw it! Hahahaha! I really did it! Very serious here! Bad shape! I kept them all anyway. Matter is I threw both actually, small date & large date. Ok 2 scents! Small date ok 20.00 better ! I get it high graded coin & mint state conditions, rare above ms 66 on both! Thank you BlueRidgeSilverhound! Happy to have stopped by Very Nice video! 🎈👍😎🌈👍👍
I have both the S and the D in great shape! Both stuck out like a sore thumb still being very shiny, I do see some scuffs on the surface but very minimal. Time to get them appraised ✌️🇺🇸👍😁💙 Thanks for the video...!!!
I have one of these, small date, looks similar to the bottom coin @ 7:46, it also has a slightly rotated reverse, and a portion of the coin rim is missing near the date and mint mark (4-5:30 on a clock face would be the missing portion). Worth it to send it in?
Hey there! Great info! I believed I had (2) lg. Dates, but quickly discovered that I have 1 of each, thanx to your video. Both are in very nice condition. Will compare thru PCGS photo-grade first, before sending in for grading. As always, Sensei, thank you for sharing your knowledge!
So thx...I think you are getting much better at this video makin thing, nobody said it was easy. You did a lil bit of graphics with your chart you included and is a helpful visual for photographic memories...we appreciate it. Dont let the haters bother you are doing veyr well...been a sub of yours for a while. P & L to you and your family...
Did you mean to have both examples labeled as small dates on the screenshot where your talking about the stronger and weaker strikes of the word "Liberty" about 5:08 into the video. Confused me. Love u guys
Thank you for this video it just helped me decide whether to pay 99 cents for the one about to sell on ebay..... I'll be selling it Soon as I get it in the mail..... thanks again
Now u make this video, would of made my search alot easier had I known about the other factors that makes it worth it. Why u being so nice blue. I just want your new subs. To have the experience without the knowledge. When I started, which feels like yesterday, there wasn't as much info out yet about this hobby. I'm new to this too, weather your a flipper or a lover of this hobby, u need the knowledge there, and to recognize it when u do see it. I've grown alot since I've started but it does take passion and patience. People want to know why u don't respond back right away, I tell them why blue. Blue is getting hundreds of not just yours but others just finding a 1970 s and asking if it is a small date and saw it from there side. U newbies don't have the mystery behind his voice though, which I think was more a mystery then the coins. If u don't know him personally, then it was. I've grown alot since. I can stand on my own 2 legs. I no longer bombard people with, Is It pictures? Blue is on the mark about this one like usual, I took me a long time to find the small date, had i known what I known now, it would of took me 1 hour. About 2 years of searching for the same thing in about an hour. Whoever u are in this. Got to have the knowledge first. Because of u Blue, the Salvation Army no longer gets my change when I come out of Wal-Mart. Lol
It's much easier to see the difference when you lay them side by side. If you are going to buy a small date, get a large date as well, it will make you more confident in your purchase.
Great Video and thanks for the hard work... I have a 1970 double S but I don’t have a clue is it small or large. I will soon find out. Seams like only the date and mint Mark was doubled. Now I found that one in charge so it’s brown. If I go on my memory it is MS63BN.
I have 6 1970 proof sets, but I would have to check between large and small dates. I also have a roll of uncirculated 1970s pennies that I would have to go through.
Hello thank you for the good information you are sharing us I've been watching your video most of the time and I would like to find out where to sell some of my pennies that I found like the Indian head and 1960's and 1970
Take a close up picture of it and just enlarge the picture to try to see the errors. I’m able to see errors better doing that. Hope it helps and good luck.
I bought 7 unsearched bu rolls from my local coin shop. Found 9 small dates in them. They are tough to spot if you don't have a one in hand to compare. I searched them 3 times just to make sure I got all of them.
what gets me is the curve on the nine. it is squared at the end, so the higher corner sorta points to the 7 but the lower corner to the S. the bottoms of the 1,7 and 0 also go straight across on the small date. that one for $23 he just showed looks like a large date when you compare to the one below it. looking at the '70S can wear you down fast.
I’ve collected for over a decade but never really paid much attention to the Small date but today , lol , I really believe I have a decent AU small date and this is the reason I’m on search number 18 to make sure and it is .
Thanks a bunch BlueRidge. I find 1970-S large dates pretty frequently, even here on the East Coast, but the 1970-S small date has been another animal entirely. I've found a total of two in all the years I've been collecting coins (both in average circulated condition) but your information on how to spot them (especially the curl of the 9) was extremely helpful. Take care man and I'll see ya in the next one.
Hey Mon Ami .... Long time no see LOL........ The tail of the 7 also is lower than the 0 in the date.... I can spot them with my bare eye's ............ Take a look at your's and let me know how easy it is..........
I live in SoCal and I come across both the large and small varients all the time. Now they aren't always in the best condition but I have at least 10 of the small dates and countless of the large dated ones. Send me a message and I'll mail some to ya.
I have a 1970s small date however it was wide struck or maybe off center. Not sure exactly but looking at it ,it’s completely obvious could I share a picture of it?
i have a 1967 penny with no back the back is scratched up and you cant see no lettering or picture i was wondering any websites to find the price of the coin.
Hey hey hey top afternoon. The comparison of the obverse's i noticed a double rim effect on the large date. How close does the date or design have to be to the rim to be considered offset? Have found many pre 1970's with same thing & a 1968 i found the 8 & bottom of lincoln's coat are both almost touching the rim? Gr8 info thanks! Have a fantastic day
I have a 1970s small date that I purchased with a mint set for the kennedy and it seems to have a type 003 or 004 rpm error. Is this worth getting graded if it does not actually have an error. It came from a mint set so it is untouched and uncirculated, but it's not necessarily the prettiest of bu coins.
Question for you Have you ever look at the 2017 in depth . I found over a 100 brass looking threw over 400 copper tone, could see them clearly threw the fluorescent lighting any ideas? love your show and thanks for responding in my last question.
Hello - Anyone ... I just found a 1970 S that I at first thought was mechanically doubled but on 2nd look and under a microscope I see that it is CLEARLY a small date OVER a large date . This includes the S mint mark , which shows a small S over a large S . The 9 has both the “hook” as well as the 9 that stops traveling ‘east’ . Any input much appreciated !
