I hate to be that guy, but the tone in the books are a lot more serious and tense without any of moment-breaking new dialog; its just way less goofy and Death's End is one of the more existential nightmare books you can readily read readily
Ehh, I don't really agree. It gets pretty goofy with a lot of the Sci fi premises it puts forward. The book didn't have so much quippy dialogue, but it never struck me as consistently serious
@SuperGamerNinja74 the quipy dialogue is a big tone shift in a subtle way but I think there's also a cultural shift too, my memory of reading the original is I didn't get a moment to breathe with the original character arcs and the intensity of their monologs usually diving into tragic backgrounds, the constant struggle between the plot and new escalating threats to humanity only toned down for me with how absurd it was all getting during the children's book alien fables, especially at the very end of the series when so much absurdity was unfolding that any previous tension felt impossibly small. Weird books, love the show too but the tone is pretty different even though outside of some wallfacers moving around its pretty much the same as the books.

My only issue with the 3 body problem is that I want to read the book before I watch the show and the book is apart dense and complex and it’s probably not the first I should be reading in the sci-fi genre so I’m really a good 6-8 months away from starting the book and another 2 from finishing it. So I’m probably going to end up watching the show in a year or so. Maybe season 2 will be out by then

Real red velvet cake doesn’t use food colouring and the red colour comes from the pH sensitive components of the cocoa. Traditionally velvet cake was baked with butter milk which is more acidic than regular milk which brought out the red colour of cocoa when baked, recipes sometime call for white vinegar as well. That’s also why natural cocoa must be used because dutch processing of cocoa raises its pH from acidic to neutral 🤓

Three body problem on netflix has not been doing it for me. Lots of wooden acting + a script that is just “insert einstein/ feynman” quotes as much as possible.
It's a shame too cause i personally thought the book felt a little stiff and dry for my tastes (i get why tho, it's hard sci fi that's also been translated from chinese), so i thought that the show would be an excellent opportunity to be able to "show" some of the sci fi elements without having to "tell" you, cause while the writing didnt do it for me, the concept was really really interesting.
