It's amazing what a little cheap craft paint can do to plastic and resin! That athletic tape idea was a Hail Mary outta pure desperation. I was going to try to sculpt them in Super Sculpey (still a viable option) but thought I would give it a try... not really sure why?? Thanks for the feedback and all the best!
Thank you! I was hoping this more permanent video screen and player would work out. It's a pretty solid evolution and ya can't really go wrong with a little Lockwood & Co.! All the best!
I wish there was a 'love' button. Your attention to detail is amazing, right down to the British style wall sockets. Thanks for posting this and I look forward to more videos!! May you have a million views..lol
I'm happy people are noticing the wall sockets! I had to model those suckers and I think it added that little bit of something that really places the scene in the world. All the best!
This is absolutely incredible!!! I don’t even have enough words to describe how amazing this is! I subscribed and am going to be watching more!!! I love this so much! You’re so talented and creative!!! 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Yikes! The pressure is really on! I hope this isn't my one masterpiece LOL! Thank you for your kind words... everyone's input keeps the creativity crankin'! All the best!
Oh this is fabulous! I don't think I could ever make anything like this but it is so wonderful to see how you went about it - thank you for sharing. The little details like the UK style plug sockets are a lovely touch :)
Thank you! I'm so glad you noticed the plugs! It's a small detail but I think those are the things that make a difference and help place the story. All the best!
Thank you! Yes! The books and the streaming series are and was really intriguing. It's such a cool world (terrifying but cool) and great characters. Cheers!
I have a video that covers it a bit but I'll spend a little more time on wiring in future videos. I think lighting is really crucial to bring a diorama to life and I think it feels intimidating to people when it really shouldn't. All the best!
Thank you for providing such a detailed back story for the build. If one wanted to do a different scene, this shows how important it is to keep all this in mind.
You bet! Creating little stories within stories is what I find most enjoyable about the whole thing. I think the more history you give to the things in a diorama, the more life it has… hopefully. Cheers!
Right!!?! There are so many terrible series out there and one comes along that is unique and well acted and produced and it’s cancelled because… who knows… it didn’t hit some metric. Very sad. We still have the books! Thanks for the comment and kind words! All the best!
Thanks! I thing the Pepper's Ghost illusion is very cool (Disney uses it quite a bit) and it's not that hard to pull off... in theory. I'm glad I could get it to work in such a small space. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers!
This video just sold me on your channel, and on trying out the book series! Amazing work, makes my fingers itch to play with making things myself and I hope to pick up plenty of tips from you.
I'm really happy to hear that. I think the best thing I could ever hope for is to inspire and help others on their creative adventures. I think you should dive in and start making! All the best!
You are absolutely fantastic! Phenomenal this video just came up i have never seen anything like it ! Im shocked at just how amazing you are ! Wonderful thankyou for sharing! 😊
Thank you for reminding me of the of the title of the book series. I've been wanting to listen to them again. You've gained a new subscriber. Were did you get the plastic "squares", that you used to square up your door. And what are the called.
Very kind of you to say so. When I get to the end of a project I'm so used to looking at it that I can never tell what's good or what's bad anymore! I'm happy you enjoyed the project! All the best!
@RandomMakingEncounters truly amazingly magical thanks for sharing i love doing just the diy nook kits so this is truly fascinating to see the actually building of one thanks so much for sharing very inspiring!😊
I've been pondering adding some motion to a nook! I'd need to find a way to sync the video player to the door motion. What I really need is a MP4 player that can be controlled by an Arduino! That would open up a world of possibilities! Thanks for the suggestion! I gotta get some things moving fer sher. Cheers!
Thanks! Twenty minutes is a lotta time to ramble so I'm glad you found it interesting. I really enjoyed the books so this one was easier. All the best!
It's a balsa strip cutter I 3D printed a million years ago (OK... maybe not a million). Unfortunately, a quick search on Thingiverse and the interwebs seems to indicate that file doesn't exist anymore and the alternatives aren't quite as nice. I don't have the original I printed from... maybe I should knock up a design of my own? I did find this one from Green Stuff World and I really like the quality of their products. It takes a little longer to get things from them but they make good stuff... not all of it's green - www.greenstuffworld.com/en/hobby-cutting-tools/3598-balsa-stripper.html All the best!
I'm glad i stumbled over your channel! You do amazing stuff which makes my heart jump. I'm doing little dioramas myself but on a very low level compared to you. Keep on going! Best wishes from Germany 🇩🇪
Right back at you from Colorado! Dioramas are the best regardless of size or complexity. The possibilities are endless. I hope I can provide some tips or tricks for you to try out. All the best!
I added a link to the razor saw and miter box in the description for cutting the wood for the walls. The balsa stripper was something I 3D printed and I can't find the files on my computer or on Thingiverse (I'm pretty sure that's where I downloaded it). I did find this - www.greenstuffworld.com/en/hobby-cutting-tools/3598-balsa-stripper.html It takes a little time to get things from Green Stuff World if you live in the US but I think they make quality products and it looks even better than what I printed... I may need to order one myself! Hope that helps with your projects!! All the best!
Thank you! That makes it all worthwhile. I'll tell ya... this was a long haul. Lots of doodads to make. The ghost part was the easiest! I think I need a smaller project for the next one. All the best!
That stuff is CRAZY! I'm using Black 2.0 which is mostly kinda insanely black. Agree with ya... something that sucks up the light really helps. Any stray reflections will spoil the illusion. Another thing I never really thought about was how much light transmission is reduced from the plastic. That means, especially at the floor, there's a noticeable difference in color and light between what's in front and what's behind the reflector that needs to be adjusted with the lighting. Thanks for the tip and comment! Cheers!
Are you asking about the right angle clamps? If those are the ones, they're called Bachmann Industries 4 Magnetic Clamps and I found them on Amazon. The red tool used for cutting strips is a model that I think I found on Thingiverse and was 3D printed. Hope that helps! Cheers!
Amazing! Can you explain (maybe in another video) why you put the wallpaper on in strips? Also I went back and put on captions when you used the word “cudgie”(??), thinking I’d heard wrong but nope. You did say that 😆
LOL! Yes... kludgy... it's how many of my projects get put together. It should be the name of a glue... it holds things together... sorta! As far as the strips go... well... I was thinkin' that wallpaper comes in rolls so it would go down as strips. That means there might be misalignment or edges that pop up or leave slight gaps. The thickness of the paper is a little off so it's not quite to scale but I was hoping it added a bit of realism to the wall. It also makes applying a bit easier since I'd probably need to switch to a spray adhesive and try to align a big sheet. What do you think? Does it add to the look?? Cheers!
It's generally called a balsa stripper. It's often used in model airplane making. The one I'm using was something I found on Thingiverse and 3D printed. Sadly, that was a long time ago and the file is no longer available. I've had a few people ask about it and I haven't really found a good substitute. It's a bummer because it's really handy to have when you need to cut a bunch of consistent strips. I'll keep looking! Thanks for the question and all the best!
I've been noodling ways to create custom video for this kind of project. Good stock video can get pricey and never really matches what I want or need. There are some AI video tools that are getting pretty good and would offer up a bit more control. Still CGI but maybe more control over the final results? Thanks for the feedback! Cheers!
I forgot to mention this... the ghost video is from AtmosFX - atmosfx.com/products/diabolic-debutant
Absolutely beautiful work, so atmospheric!
Thanks! I had lotsa inspiration!
Your attention to detail is outstanding. Never hit the subscribe button so fast!
