jen w how did you manage to train her to do this? My chi will only do the things he wants to do. In fact he’ll often do the opposite, I ask him to sit and he’ll lay down, I ask him to lay down and he’ll sit. He enjoys learning tricks whilst he’s getting food but once he realises that he’s not getting food for everything he does he’ll just sit and look at me, offended that I expect something of him.
Chihuahuas are actually really easy to train if you just treat them like the intelligent dogs they are. I've trained several chi's and they are super quick learners.

She loves everybody in the family, and is protective of all. Other Chi's we have had only gravitated to one or two of us. The extra talent she has? My son has epilepsy, and she alerts us even from another room, when he will have a seizure. If that isn't perception, I don't know what is.
My now 14yo chihuahua Bonnie was super easy to train. She easily learnt many words and phrases and about 12 tricks, some quite complex. Chihuahuas can be fantastic and smart!
I think people underestimate Chi's. Many bad Chi's are the result of bad owners. I have had them before and my current one was easy to train. Is he hardheaded? Yes, but that's a breed trait. I don't have accidents in the house and he responds to commands. Sometimes if he thinks he's getting a treat out of it is will run through what he knows without me asking.

I definitely consider myself lucky in that regard. As for training, stay is ok but leave it is what I struggle with. I'll tell him stay and he will, but when I put some food or something he wants on the floor he's off like a rocket. Takes about 10 times to actually get him to stay until I say ok. He's not the biggest fan of agility, he likes jumps but that's about it. He did come from a neglectful background where he was locked in a cage for almost 8 months so the tunnel is taking a lot of work but I think we're finally getting there!
Awww!! Sophie is so petite and such a good dancer. She is a beautiful little girl and Jen is proud of her with good reason. This is so inspiring i might go home and try train my cat. Lol.

I have a Chi (pure bred ex show/stud dog). He is very affectionate, easy going, smart, has never growled or bitten anyone. He is just a happy well rounded Dog. People buy Chihuahua from backyard Breeders & they pay a lot of money for big trouble....people think & read up on the Breed... Such a wonderful, fabulous Team 10-10 from me 🦋🌸🦋🌸🦋

That's a myth, my chi picks things up super easily. I was weirded out by how much harder it was to try and teach my inlaws' sheltie puppy some basic tricks in comparison while they're supposed to be stereotypically more trainable.
Justyna Wisniewska Exactly my chi picks up tricks in literally just a few tries, she can “dance” target and sit though sometimes she confuses “dance” with sit lol she gets a bit excited 😆
This is amazing and so friggin' cute on top! I just attended a Dog Dance workshop with my chihuahua, too. We will probably never get very far, but it was great fun and it is so cool when tiny dogs rock the stage!!
This was an impressive performance. I know that these routines are difficult for tiny dogs, but Sophie pulled it off beautifully. The routine was clever, and Sophie was charming and cute. Bravo, Jenny!
I remember watching TV variety shows as a little kid. A lot of them included dogs doing tricks and a lot of times the dogs were Chihuahuas. And they almost always performed brilliantly! So I have a Chihuahua all these years later and while he's an affectionate little guy, he's not very bright and he's a bolter. It's really frustrating as all hell. 🤤
one of the commentators in this clip, Richard Curtis, also did amazing heelwork to music work with his chihuahua, Betty. IIRC they once won third place at Crufts

I taught mine to do 3 circles before I put her food down and thought I should be given the Nobel prize. Took really no teaching though... she did one, I said wow and she kept going. I said ok roo that's enough! Every night now she does 3 circles on her own 🤷♂️
sorry i coulden't finish watching this. Sophie is very talented, but i started crying about Garvoche...he sings part of this song in his death scene and i am still not over it...
I think this routine was hard to appreciate because of the Chi's size. It just wasn't as dynamic as those bounding dramatic large dogs. However, they should have looked more at the complexity of the dance, and the incredible number of "tricks" the dog performed. For a Chi, that's an amazing attention span, whereas Border Collies can remain fixated on signals for an hour if there's a treat involved. I have one of each, and the Chi is a lot more inventive with spontaneous tricks than the stubborn BC who already has so many inbred traits. Love both breeds, but the judges weren't fair on this one.

A lot are just bred wrong, and then combine that with people who don't know how to train all that well, then you get little monsters.
