Thank you ever so much! I’ve always painted in acrylic but decided to try my hand at water colours. You are easier to follow because you’re a leftie like I am. Thanks again! 🇨🇦🙏🏼🙏🏽🙏🏻🙏🏾☝🏻
I absolutely love painting leaves 😍 I am starting to get the hang of the one stroke leave and the two stroke leaves are making progress 😂 It is so calming painting leaves so I love to learn more 😊 Thank you so much for this series and sharing your skills 🙏
Dear Harriet, I really enjoy this video. I have spent time without to see it. It was really marvellous and I ‘look try again because my leaves weren’t perfect as yours. Thank you very much.
Kind regards from Germany and thank you so much for your work. I´ve just started with watercolour and I´m so thankful for your advice. Nobody should say, that painting leaves is easy. 😅
Harriet thank you so much for super tutorials. I have just found your channel and come the 1st December I will be subscribing to your Patreon channel. I love your format of teaching and I am hoping that Santa will be bringing me your book. Again thanks so much for the time and effort it takes to do these tutorials.
HeyHey ... I am such excited to see you painting ... just turning the brushhair around ... it looks really awesome ... I am painting since I was a little child and I am drawing my ChristmasCards every year ... now its a card for a wedding of a tight girlfriend from my daughter ... and its just in time ... I found this light fine leaves 🍃... lo💖ely greetings from Germany and always happy succeed ... yours SaBine
I only recently discovered your channel, and I'm so glad I did. I love your style. I purchased your book several months ago and, in fact, gifted one to a friend. It's wonderful watching your effortless manner. Thank you.
Nicely done! I am enjoying the way you teach your lessons. I’m going back to basics and this lesson today was very useful. I have bought your book. Thank you!
I just found you a couple of days ago when someone mentioned you on another channel. This was fun to paint along with and I'm looking forward to watching and painting along with the rest.
Ty for showing how to do leaves! My issue is trying to get off the puddles of color (if use end of paper towel) must do it fast & if use drier brush (get whiter spots)?
Simply wonderful! As someone who appreciates your book so much, it was a joy to watch your actual process. It was also so instructive to see the consistency of the paint and how much water you use to get those beautiful shaded effects. One of the things I continue to struggle with is the placement of leaves in relation to their adjoining flowers. I'm happy with the leaves and flowers separately, for the most part, but a lot of times combining them ends up looking stiff and awkward. A tutorial on achieving a more "organic" look would be great.
Hi Kim, Thanks so much for your comment. I find that it's best to paint focal flowers first of all and then to fit foliage around those as leaves slot into smaller spaces much more easily. Then you can can add tiny filler flowers after that. But we will definitely be doing tutorials on this.
I have just discovered your channel and so in love with it! Thank you for all the tutorials. Your tutorials are so clear that I can follow. And your voice is so soothing, too lol. I’m going to binge watch your channel the whole rainy day today 😍.
How wonderful the leaves look and watching you doing them made me feel that maybe I could actually do some. I'm 71 and never done drawing or painting as when I tried many years ago at school I just didn't understand the process and so was useless. I want to figure out how I find the beginning of your lessons so I can see for myself what you are referring to. Thank you so much.
What a wonderful video. I paused it a couple times to go off and paint some leaves. There's so much here it'll keep me playing for days or weeks. I'm having trouble mixing concentrated colors from half pans. I end up with it too watery to get a good dark stem. I will probably invest in tubes when it's time to refill.
Great suggestion! I invite my Patrons to pick at least 4 of my TH-cam tutorials a month. To find out more about my Patreon online teaching, have a look at this video I made to explain how it all works: th-cam.com/video/U1LIRYnBiOY/w-d-xo.html
I have just found your channel and have now watched 4 or 5 videos, which I have thoroughly enjoyed. Your paintings are beautiful! You mentioned your book, and several people who have commented on this video have also mentioned it - but not what it is called. Can you oblige please? Thank you and see you in the next video! Ann Miller
Thanks Ann. My book is called New Botanical Painting and you can find a link to my Etsy store at the top of my episode notes where you can buy a signed copy
I love your teaching style 😊. The pace is good and the recap at the end is really helpful. I am trying to follow along and practice all the techniques but have been a bit frustrated by some less than great results. I have treated myself to some better quality paper but still find that the paint is not travelling on the paper in the way that you show. I’d love to know whether you think that paper quality is the main factor.
Paper quality is very important but something that takes a bit of time to master - especially for beginners - is the amount of water and colour ratio on the brush to get it to do what you want. I recommend having a look at my blending and layering episode in watercolour for beginners x
Super instructional video, you made the leaves come to life ! Im planning to buy the brushes -do I need to buy the No 8 Round or Pointed Round for this sort of work and landscapes too?
Great lesson! Thank you!! I watched this particular lesson because it said smooth sided and the problem that I have is when I paint (on cold press paper) I often get a darker outline around the paint. Now I know that you are maybe going to say that it’s too much water in my paint but when I make a color lighter by adding water (I may have just answered myself) I end up with a wet wash...Maybe I should try to use less paint on my brush? But of coarse that doesn’t work for a large area like a sky! Help! Thank you so much!!💕
Hi Donna, you need to mix up a watery colour in your palette, clean off and blot your brush then add the colour gradually so there isn’t too much pigment or water. Then keep gradually adding colour but don’t add any more water to your brush. This should give you an even leaf x
great tutorial, you make it looks so easy - for me, not so easy. How many sheets of practice leaves/strokes do you reckon it took you to get that flow? That c/s leaf is killing me! only one out of a filled sheet looked ok.
I notice that you don’t remove your tiny puddles on the leaves? How do you not get watermarks on your leaves when you leave the tiny puddles at the tips? Mine always leave dark edges?
Hello from the West Coast of Canada. I'm a bit of a goof when it comes to finding specific places on a website. I'm interested in the brushes, can you point me in the right direction to place an order? Thank you🍻

Yes, do that and I promise that the more you do it, the more you will start to see progress.
Super instructional video, you made the leaves come to life ! Im planning to buy the brushes -do I need to buy the No 8 Round or Pointed Round for this sort of work and landscapes too?
I always use rounded point brushes. A size 8 is a great brush for landscapes as they have good coverage.
Thanks very much

Will this book ever go digital Mrs H? 'New Botanical Painting'
It is available on kindle!
⚾️ wow I learned a lot! Thx
So glad Ann!

It's not so much about having a set destination, just practise whenever you can and it will fall into place when you least expect it
What fun
Thanks Hazel!

Hello from the West Coast of Canada. I'm a bit of a goof when it comes to finding specific places on a website. I'm interested in the brushes, can you point me in the right direction to place an order? Thank you🍻
Usually it’s my Etsy store but they are out of stock until January
@@deWintonPaperCo Thank You! I'll check back in the new year 🍻
Hi there, how do you make that color chart?
Which?
Do you have a monetary converter? Your book price is in £ but being from the US, what does that equate to in $? Do you sell it on Amazon? I love these tutorials so know that your book would be a real help to this beginner. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Cher, you can buy the book on Amazon. The USA version is called ‘painting watercolor botanicals’
My church has 2 big trees very close in the upfront. I am dying to paint the whole thing, but I'm afraid on how to do the bushy leaves...🤯 help😭
If you are keen to learn more substantial paintings then my patreon is the place to go.
Your stems always bend towards the left. Is it because you're left handed? I'm right handed, so mine will always bend towards the right???
Yes I'm left handed but you can do whatever comes naturally to you.
Trying but just not getting it ☹️
Sometimes it’s good to take a breath and try again another day x
👍👍👍💕💕💕🇩🇰
Thanks Karen!
it hard to see what your doing theirs so much water not enough color
Thanks for your comment Dora
Thanks!
Thank you
Thanks!
