And I am ashamed to live in it. Without CO2 the plants can't grow. Human activity is responsible for much less then 1% of total CO2 outlet. The carbon scare is you all suffer from, is the prelude to carbon taxation. You all just swallow up this garbage because it's being pushed on TV, and everything you see on TV is true, right? Copenhagen is one of my favorite cities in the world. As a traveler of more than 23 countries and dozens of cities, no city makes me feel as much as ease as CPH. I wish more cities were planned and developed like that. Aarhus is an awesome city, too! Anyone wants to trade my Canadian passport for a Danish one? lol
You know Danes love Canada, so I would love to trade my Danish passport with your Canadian one, but only for a couple of years, I would miss Copenhagen too much...

I don't know how, but when I visit Copenhagen I'm always feeling like I'm coming home. It's wonderful city with amazing and warm people and I admire their state of mind, their behaviour to nature and their hygge.

Good to see Copenhagen becoming an environment friendly city. Hope that most Danish cities would be like that in the near future.
Most cities here are cleaner than Copenhagen.
And the technology is not unique to Copenhagen, although they are probably on the forefront.
The only thing the video don't get quite right, is that this development is new.

@@Bager_Wisdoms Mostly it's about getting the like 2 days a year where it's sunny. Denmark rarely looks very welcoming.
The weather is often grey in Denmark and our streets and walkways usually hold a lot of cigarettes and trash (which sucks!!). Try going to Tokyo. Despite the smog above the city, the people are great at cleaning up after themselves. The same can't be said for Danes, sadly.

It always amazes me how organized and rational the Norsemen are. I guess those long cold nights force you to think and contemplate, and execute excellent, society-wide concepts and projects in spring. Watching this makes me feel like I live on another, blind and backward planet.
What also amazes me is the permanent high quality of B1M videos. Probably the best channel on the entire TH-cam.
great country and great city. I lived there for a year and while its obviously a little different than living in America, I can say that the way its run and the togetherness of the nation is something that Americans can and should learn from. Though I doubt that it would ever happen.

Bhutan has several very large hydro electric (dam) facilities due to all the water in the country. They produce huge amounts of electricity -- more than the small country needs. So they sell their excess electricity to India. Simple calculation, nothing magical here. Few countries have this advantage.
@@revolutionarycomrade I did my research just now and got a bit wiser, thank you. The claim comes because they have lots of greenery and don't use much energy, which is fantastic, no doubt about it. Problem is that they barely produce anything which just means everyone is puttin out the carbon -for- them (for anything and everything they buy) but thats hard to count so they just dont. Also I hope they can keep emitting so little carbon going forward and still get the benefits of our new technology. Thanks again.
Im from london but moved to danmark 3 years ago, best decision i ever made tbh. If you get the chance really do take it. Minumim wage is roughly £10/15$. Free education all the way to university (they even give you money to study, from £125 to £750 a month depending on income) i love this place man

@@loselmatos4453 - No it doesn't. I don't know if you live in Denmark, but I do. Most days there's no rain at all. Our weather can be quickly changing in a day, og from one day to another. So yes, it might suddenly change from very sunny to very rainy in almost no time. I don't know how normal this behavior is around the globe though. but surely compared to warner countries, where there's longer periods of sun and shorter with rain, it could seem like it rains all time here in Denmark. Our weather just varies a lot :)

Hey look that's my childhood home at 1:50! The tiny yellow house is a a guardhouse from 1724. It was moved 14 meters in 1936. Hey look that's the church I was baptised in at 4:10 Christians Kirke! Honestly, you can see the entire city from Amager Bakke at 7:25, it's free to go up there, the ramparts look amazing, Copenhagen is so flat you can see for miles and there's a skiing lift on top. 8:10 Copenhagen Townhall, 8:17 Christiansborg Castle (Parliament)

Amazingly constructed video! The changes made in Copenhagen are truly inspiring. I hope to see similar advancements made in Oslo (Norway), which I'm sure they will! I intend to move to Oslo someday after high school / college.
But who knows... maybe Denmark is a better fit! We'll see.

This comment might come of as a little bias, because I am Danish myself, but we love and admire Norway, so its said with love for our brothers and sisters in Norway, but Oslo is still a very young capital, in terms of charm, warmness and structure, something is missing in Oslo, and its not as safe as Copenhagen. In many cases Oslo feels and looks empty and too sterile if that makes sense. One should definitely visit the beautiful country of Norway, but comparing Oslo and Copenhagen, I would advise you to come down south with us Danes in Copenhagen. I wish you good luck with your plans, much love from Copenhagen...
Norway already had biogass buss for almost 5 years now. And we have been the leading country in electric cars, but we will never be leading in bike because it always get too cold here to bike to work.

I watched this video just now, four years after the upload. It’d be cool if there’s an up-to-date version .
Reykjavik, Helsinki, Astana and one of the Emirate state cities pretty much do this already aswell, do a video on this topic around the world maybe?
In terms of major city overhauls, Reykjavik doesn't really apply since it's tiny by comparison, the railway on the entirety of Iceland consists of 20 meters of track to transport fish from the dock to the harbour, in other words there are alot of problems that big cities face that Reykjavik will never face and it's specifically those problems that are the highlight, i don't want to take away any accomplishments though, any innovation in the area is welcome and should be looked at regardless of where it comes from.
Although i agree that a greater overview of what is actually being done in several individual cities worldwide would be very good, inculding reykjavik, even though they won't be bringing much to the table in regards of solutions for metropolitan cities and heavily industrialized areas.
So impressed with Copenhagen and, as always, in awe of the quality postings from The B1M!

Denmark showing the world how things should be done in a bid to enhance quality of life for urban dwellers.
Not just Urban dwellers but everyone. We're all in the same boat, everyone on the planet and so it's a shared responsibility of ours to make sure that the only planet we have is still habitable for our future generations. I mean if you were born in a world with massive food shortages, a large destruction of natural life and many wonders and cultures from just a few generations ago completely destroyed, then yeah You would be upset at your ancestors! And if we all don't change course for a better future, then we might just become those ancestors to that potential child!

That is absolutely true, and I for one admire Bhutan so much, not only for the fact that the country is clean but also for the King who wants to keep it that way. But you can not compare Thimphu the capital city of Bhutan to Copenhagen, we are talking about a fully modern city with transportation systems, modern housing and one of the highest standards of living. Usually that kind of development is bad for the environment, but Copenhagen and Denmark as a whole is showing the world that it is possible to live in the western world and be good to the environment, that is the message. Many countries are much cleaner then Denmark, no doubt about that...Love and respect, from Copenhagen.
@@KenKobayashiRasmussen Denmark consumes less fossil fuels per capita compared to other developed nations, but keep in mind that many stuff you(also the west) use are made in other countries; So for example, all these electric cars that will replace petrol ones until 2030 will be produced outside Denmark and the carbon gasses for their production will be produced outside borders also - but actually the pollution will be made for the account of denmark; Also, vehicle replacements mostly are responsible for further pollution from vehicle industries. Lithium batteries on existing EVs are responsible for large pollution from manufacturing process, last less than 8 years, have low capacity and soon will be obsolete(solid state batteries are coming). Many Danes will change car(again) after that, lose their money(again) and even more carbon gasses will be produced from German / Japanese car factories.

@@birdakasiakwvos I am sorry to hear that you are living in a country that is directly effected by the extremists, but I think you have misunderstood our reason for our politics. Denmark is not fighting Islam, Islam is a beautiful relegion. What we are fighting is the extremist thought that Islam is the only relegion and that everyone else should die. We fight for our right for freedom of speech no matter what, and we fight for everyones safety in our country, and if that means that we must control the income of refugees, then so be it. We must be able to take care of our citizens first, and welcome the refugees that we did accept into our country, so that they will be taken care of in terms of education, cultural understanding and language, if we take as many refugees as Sweden did, then we will loose control and the integration will fail. Thats our policy in Denmark, we want to welcome everyone with open arms, but Denmark is a free country, where you have to apply to our rules and our culture, if you are not willing to do that, then we give you a ticket home..
Most cities will take decades to reach where Copenhagen already is.

Am early, cool. This is nice, soon other countries or major cities will follow, thereby transforming the world. Am kin on Nigeria going this way especially cities or private companies because lack of stable energy and great dependence on fuel and diesel generators is killing the economy.

A comment on renaturation, before the 1600s more or less only Jutland had forests, not because we used all the woods for ships, but simply because our soil doesn't support natural forest growth that well, especially on Fyn and Sjælland, too much sand and rock, so most indiginous trees are hardwoods, which doesn't have a tendency to grow into thick and big forests like coniferous trees do. For the past 400 and some odd years we've had by royal decree tons of forests planned, planted and cultivated, mostly because the king wanted the perfect hunting forest so he built several trial forests, which eventually led to Store Dyrehave which if anything is architecturally interesting. A new development on this part is that several forests have been planned to let them grow wild, until now all the forests have been carefully managed by naturstyrelsen (A governmental organ concerned with the management of all public forests and nature reserves in all regards) but they intend over the next 40 years or so to essentially grow the ecology and sustainability of the forests by reintroducing nature in the mix, which was never really present, bar of course the obvious when dealing with something as natural as forest ecology. There are also talks about a literal naturation of parts of Copenhagen, where housing is built in cohesion with nature instead of on top of it etc. it was also specifically concerned with drainage of rainwater, redirecting rain flow to create ponds etc. but last i heard about that it was very much on the theoretical level*.
No buildings have positive energy consumption, that's practically impossible, what you can do is make the house provide atleast some energy itself, by f.ex. installing solar cells on your roof, but the idea that a house can in itself produce more energy than it consumes is farfetched, especially in a relatively cold country, although we are very good at insulation which does help energy consumption, it will never amount to net positive, at best you can aim for neutral, if that's even what you meant by that, you may have meant that the source of energy is renewable and therefore positive, i'm not sure lol.
On the dirty ships, which i agree is one of our biggest challenges considering we are home to one of the worlds biggest freighter companies, Mærsk, but Mærsk issued a statement december last year saying that they aim to severely cut the use of fossil fuels by 2050, although they say that it will require that the technology to do so existing by 2030 and to that they've pledged considerable ressources in innovation in not only co2 neutral ships, but co2 neutral production aswell, and to that when talking about Mærsk, that's alot of ressources, like alot, probably inconcievable amounts of resources in terms of financing ships and the innovation of such, in a statement the COO of Mærsk, Søren Toft, said "The next 5-10 ten years are the most important. We will invest considerable resources in innovation and fleet technology, with the goal of developing and improving the technical and economic sustainability of fossil-free solutions" He also pointed out that one of the biggest hurdles is the range of batteries and the fact that a ship can't just park and recharge, although at the same time he points out that now is the right time to act since a ship normally has a lifespan of 20-25 years. www.jv.dk/business/Maersk-vil-vaere-CO2-neutral-i-2050/artikel/2668317
Zero emission lorries is a goal, but for now individual companies aim more toward hybrids, probably because of cost and lack of true electrical heavy weight lorries. The problem is that the transport of goods is almost exclusively privately owned so it's not so easy for the government to demand changes, there's also alot of factors to consider and in the end such things take time regardless, but alot of transport companies are mindful of it, especially considering it's good PR.
The railway in Denmark is a monopoly, to move all transport of goods to rails would be to give alot of oney and power to a single company, which is employed by the government, the government own the tracks, but the private company which name eludes me at the moment owns all the trains, although with subsidities from the government, considering our economy i think aiming for electrical lorries and improving the production of them should be the main goal.

I love the idea that Copenhagen has plans to become carbon-neutral but it is a goal that may not be realistic for other cities in different countries. I live in the USA and it doesn't seem reasonable at this point in time to aim for this goal. For any major city in the USA to be carbon-neutral, its probably going to take more than 15 years to see this goal as a reality. A lot of research and planning will need to be dedicated to reach this goal. Always loved the channel and content presented!
