Yoda went to the planet Morraband in Clone Wars, the homeworld of the Sith. Malachor is a new planet you haven’t seen yet, but it did appear in Legends Books.
Yoda waving to Ashoka is one of the most emotional parts in all Star Wars to me. Even though he made mistakes its just impossible to blame him for everything that happened and whilst Ashoka had a bitter end with the order you can tell that she holds Yoda in such high esteem
Fun fact for the grand inquisitor he partially left the Jedi order because he wanted more knowledge from the Jedi archives but Jocasta Nu told him no so he left the Jedi because a librarian said he wasn’t allowed to be in the library anymore
So Kanan really did get knighted here, some say it wasn't the grand inquisitor's call but Yoda was actually giving them the visions so he was the one basically knighting Kanan, and Ahsoka was having the visions which were basically physical manifestations of her own guilty feelings.
Most inquisitors are Padawans/Younglings who were tortured, brainwashed, or manipulated into turning to the dark side. Vader even cut a body part off of all of them to teach them “Loss”.
@@jokuvaan5175isn’t specifically the whatever sister from this ep (smg) that she had like her throat all fucked up for this purpose and that’s why her voice is all mechanical?
Ezra and Kanan's Master/Apprentice relationship is the best in all Star Wars, IMHO -- the opening sequence and Kanan's lesson are great examples of that. I always remember the notorious character models for Anakin and Yoda as being part of Rebels generally, but I never associate them with this episode in particular. Guess rest of the episode is just so good that I tend to forget it also includes those . . . questionable design choices. The shot with the vision of Vader behind Ahsoka is absolutely iconic.
Ahsoka got a lot of guilt over the events that happened before the end of the Clone wars...i think the temple just responded to it, to what she needed at that moment...Just like the temple responded to the need of solutions and goal for Ezra and the need of validation and confidence for Kanan ! Those temple are tricky alright...
As per the big reveal, the Grand Inquisitor was once a member of the Tenple Guard on Coruscant, and one of the first Jedi alongside Anakin to fall and become an inquisitor. He murdered the other temple guards so they could not intervene when Anakin and the 501st marched on the temple. Also, that actually was his force ghost, Vader later came by the destroyed temple and trapped him using an ancient Sith relic so he could be punished for all of eternity for his failures. Edit: btw, Marketa is actually not too far off on her tan theory. Dark Side force users tend to be super pale and sickly looking because, unlike the light side which extends life, the dark side actively drains the user’s life force over time. This is why a lot of Sith wind up becoming obsessed with discovering immortality. So they can avoid the downsides of the dark side.
I love that with Clone Wars final season now out we have a new layer to Ahsoka's thoughts and fears. Now we now Maul warned her about Anakin and she vehemently denied Anakin would ever turn to the dark side. Now Ahsoka is even thinking she should have listened to Maul and maybe saved Anakin from falling. Obi-Wan and Ahsoka have all this guilt over Anakin's transformation into Darth Vader. They bot feel they failed him. Kanan and Hers are absolutely surrogate parents to Ezra and Sabineat this point.
It wasn’t technically the temple that was behind the appearance of the Grand Inquisitor. Rebels Recon confirmed that the visions are a means of communication for _Yoda._ So the vision of the GI is Yoda letting Kanan know he is now a Jedi Knight.
I'm surprised no one has mentioned that the voice of Kanan, Freddie Prinze Jr. is married to Sarah Michelle Gellar, who provides the voice for the Seventh Sister. Their little exchange at the beginning of the episode always makes me laugh hard. 😃
Spidey is right the vast majority of Inquisitors are Padawans or younglings that were captured and tortured. The Malachor System, to my knowledge, first appeared in the KOTOR 2 video game. So you might recognise it from that. Grey Jedi can't exist in canon as Lucas designed it. For Grey Jedi to exist, the Dark Side would have to be half the force, but it isn't the darkside is a corruption of the natural force and its addictive. Anyone who uses the darkside like a grey Jedi would eventually be corrupted and go full darkside. From my understanding, Ahsoka's blades are while in canon because she cleansed 2 bled (red) kyber crystals from the Inquisitor she got the blade from. Outside of the universe the white blades' significance is to show she is unaligned not Jedi or Sith just a light side user.
So I'm just saying when it comes to why all the imperials are pale my reasoning is most imperials are either in trooper gear or on a star ship in space so no time for tans. Where most rebels are seen on planetside and are usually only in space to travel from spot to spot. Just saying cause it always bothered me why Tarkin and everyone else always looked like vampires lol
I know a lot of people don't like how Anakin and Yoda's models look in this episode but personally they don't bother me all that much. Plus, the character work they're used for is just great. Also, we're coming up to the season 2 finale, boy oh boy I cannot wait for that!
Yup, big plot point, Ahsoka knows Anakin is Vader, the Grand Inquisitor was a Jedi Temple Guard, and Ezra is battling that dark sidr and light side balance boyyyyy
A MUCH better reaction than last week. Finally an episode where you guys concentrate on what's going on and getting into the story, instead of trying to force a joke into every scene.
The scene where a running Ahsoka startles and looks back to see Yoda waving and then exchanging smiles and nods while Yoda's theme plays still moves me. The art design for the Temple always catches my attention. One of the best Rebels episodes.
To know that the Grand Inquisitor was a Jedi Knight as well as a Temple Guard blew my mind. But having Ahsoka to face the truth that her friend, her brother, and her Master Anakin Skywalker being turned to the Dark Side she didn’t want to believe it was true.
All Inquisitors (that we know of) were Jedi once. Most were Padawans, a few were Knights. There was even a former Jedi Master among them, the 10th Brother, but he was killed very early on. Some, like the Grand Inquisitor or the 10th Brother grew disillusioned with the Jedi Order before Order 66 while others, especially the former Padawans were captured during or right after Order 66 and tortured into falling to the Dark Side. Also, in case you were wondering: It's unknown whether or not Barriss Offee was made an Inquisitor after Order 66. Her fate after her arrest has not been explored in the new Canon yet.
The inquisitors aren't strong, or at least well trained Jedi, that's why they use the spinny lightsabers. One of the best things they've managed to do is to create a weapon that looks like it would terrify some half trained Padawan living alone, well at the same time demonstrating anyone who uses them is going to get chumped the second they encounter someone who actually knows what they're doing.
Fun fact the Grand Inquisitor was the one who lowered the Corusant Jedi Temple on the night of Operation Nightfall (or Knightfall if you look @ it from a certain POV) aka Order 66…
11:14 He was one of the jedi temple guards (with the same outfits as here) at the trial of Barriss Offee (at the end of season 5 CW) btw, where he started to lose faith in the jedi. There are also comics about him at the temple during/after Order 66 (I think he killed the other temple guards).
I LOVE this episode. The symbolism in this was so powerful. Ezra and Kannan went there with the desire to fight and beat the sith. So. Yoda sent them to Malachor to gain knowledge. The knowledge the gained was if they try and fight. They will lose. They have to find another way to win. And luke did. He didn't fight. He won. By not fighting. That was the lesson Yoda tried teaching them. So Powerful....
I feel it was a major mistake in the Obi Wan series that they didn’t get Jason Isaacs to return and play the live action version of the Grand Inquisitor!! It would have made it far better if they did
Thinking about the grand Inquisition being a former temple guard. The rules to be kicked out of the light side are quite blurry. As far as i remember, the grand Inquisitor only killed two imperials under the command of Tarkin (even counting Obi Wan) but already considered like a darkside user and ban to oblivion upon his death. But Anakin ,who killed innocents left and right (including youngling ) and on his own free will, can hang one as force ghost ( club reserved to light side user or a very specific Sith Lord ) ? I really think it was the grand Inquisitor or at least the part of him what survive Mustafar.
It's annoying when people misunderstand the fact that Ahsoka is still a Jedi. The order is gone, she couldn't go back to it if she wanted too. Their rules are out the door. She is one of the remnants of the order, whether she appreciates it or not. I think she does, though, if not in words. She does it with her deeds.
This is one of my favorite episodes of Rebels. Kanaan faced his trial and was finally recognized as a Jedi Knight. Ahsoka learned the horrible truth about what really happened to her master; setting the stage for their inevitable confrontation. Ezra got some valuable counseling from Yoda; both in where he needs to go, and the dangers of the path he's on. And Yoda waving to Ahsoka as she left, was the perfect way to end their time in the temple.
